DH and his sandwiches - I'm gonna go postal

mynamechange94 · 20/03/2024 20:31

Ever since lockdown started and DH has mostly been working from home, he has a sandwich for lunch with little cubes of cheese and cold meats etc. Every day, pretty much, he has the same sandwich.

And every single god damn fucking day he leaves the chopping board, bread knife and butter knife on the kitchen counter.

I've asked. I've pleaded. I've threatened a star chart. Nothing has worked.

AIBU to lose my shit soon if he can't just put the knives and chopping board in the washing up before he eats?

I'm obviously not perfect, and I'm well aware that I have wildly irritating habits too, but I just want him to put the stuff in the washing up pile. Is that really too much to ask? AIBU?

Is he too important to worry about such menial things?

Is there a house fairy to clear up?

YANBU

SnarkMode · 20/03/2024 20:32

Put it on his desk. Every time.

Wheresthescissors · 20/03/2024 20:32

Put them in a bag. Put them in his office/the garden/his car.

Brefugee · 20/03/2024 20:32

put them in the bin
or put them on his desk
or just leave them there - until he moves them
put a big sign next to it: move your fucking shit

redskyatnight2023 · 20/03/2024 20:33

YANBU, it's not exactly difficult to clear up after yourself in case someone else wants to use the stuff and counter space. It's inconsiderate.

unlikelychump · 20/03/2024 20:33

I think the whole purpose of marriage is to teach you not to sweat the small stuff. Effing annoying as it is.

WinterMorn · 20/03/2024 20:33

I haven’t heard anyone say “go postal” for ages!

Daffodilsarentfluffy · 20/03/2024 20:33

Shove them under his pillow...

dcsp · 20/03/2024 20:34

The stuff that he leaves lying to eat his lunch, does he clear it after lunch before going back to his desk?

If so, YABU.
If not, YANBU

CrappySack · 20/03/2024 20:34

I'm torn. Does he wash them up after he's finished eating or do they linger there for ages?

K0OLA1D · 20/03/2024 20:35

Take the knives and chopping board out with you to work one day. Say nothing. Act dumb.

AhBiscuits · 20/03/2024 20:36

Would he clear it away of you left it and if so when?
I don't think there's any need to rush to immediately tidy something away, as long as it's done in a reasonable time frame.

DisforDarkChocolate · 20/03/2024 20:36

Take them away and hide them.

FOJN · 20/03/2024 20:37

Hide the bread knife and chopping board and when he asks you where they are you can ask him where he left them.

The task is too small and menial for him to do so he leaves it to you. It's disrespectful

Smartiepants79 · 20/03/2024 20:37

If you left it all what would happen? If you don’t clear it up will he do it later in the day, maybe after work?
Is so then I think you’re being a bit anal.
If not then he’s being lazy. Put the stuff on his desk.

rainyskylight · 20/03/2024 20:38

As long as he cleans it up after he’s eaten I don’t see a problem with this. I couldn’t get so worked up about it.

UraniumArthur · 20/03/2024 20:40

If he never clears any of it up, even after eating YANBU.

If he eats and then clears up, YABU.

LilFoxes · 20/03/2024 20:40

Padlocks for the cabinets? Or some kind of clear locked box to hold the cheese and cold cuts? I did this on the airing cupboard when DH was learning that if he didn't hang his wet towels up, they stayed wet and he wasn't allowed to just get fresh clean ones.

This! It doesn't have to be before he eats.

If he leaves them there indefinitely then just leave them there to be dirty for his lunch the next day. He'll remember.

NerdWhoEatsMedlar · 20/03/2024 20:42

I adopted the "There is no diner tonight because I can't access the chopping board" method.

TheChosenTwo · 20/03/2024 20:43

Do the cubes of cheese not fall out of the sandwich?

Mazuslongtoenail · 20/03/2024 20:45

Tiny cubes of cheese seem wildly impractical for a sandwich. Do they not drop out of the bottom while he’s eating?

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 20/03/2024 20:46

We need more info. How long would they stay there if you didn't touch them?

AdultFemaleWoman · 20/03/2024 20:46

So just before the Prince come down for his bread and cheese and cured meats, make a sandwich of your own using all the clean utensils to do so. Buttery knife, crumbs, open meat, sweaty cheese. Make sure there are no clean plates or silverware he can use. See what he says then.
Your mission is set.
