Am I the only person under 90 who prefers a nightie

to pyjamas?

MN is full of people who snuggle in their PJs, have a pyjama day, love them so much they long to spend the whole of Christmas Day in them.

But me ... I prefer a nightie. Anyone else?

Only when on my period, and in the summer.

BehemothWatermelon · 15/12/2023 23:42

I always wear a nightie to bed! I do wear pyjamas for the evening, relaxing downstairs. Or leggings under my nightie. But always just a nightie to bed, longsleeved in winter. I'm 34 and buy most of mine from Edinburgh Woolen Mill. But I see nighties in places like Sainsburys and Primark so they must still be popular. I also use the word "pyjamas" to describe any nightwear including nighties.

Choccyp1g · 15/12/2023 23:43

Me too.
I sit up reading in bed, and find jamas give me a wedgie.
I wish I could find longer nighties and with long sleeves.

Sandytoxic · 15/12/2023 23:43

I have nighties, and shortie pj sets.

I'm only 5’2, so full length pyjama bottoms are too long on me. I struggle to find cropped bottoms.

BoogityBoogityFastestThingOnTwoFeet · 15/12/2023 23:43

Nightie or nightshirt?
I wear a cotton nightshirt but not a grannie nightie.
I can’t bear pj’s, I feel your bits should be allowed to breathe, ‘they are smothered enough in pants all day’
(quote from a recently departed old family friend said many, many years ago)

I went through a phase of nightie loving. Now onto t-shirts and shorts. My pyjamas are not snuggly as I get too hot

Namenumber3 · 15/12/2023 23:46

Me! Preferred it on my period, breast feeding and DH always liked them better 😁.
PJs look good for wearing round the house but I find them a binding to sleep in.

ignatiusjreilly · 15/12/2023 23:46

I got rid of all my pyjamas years ago. I much prefer nightdresses!

NextPrimeMinister · 15/12/2023 23:47

Lomg sleeve nighties (Jersey only) are the best. Very hard to find unfortunately. Am wearing one now.

Ktime · 15/12/2023 23:47

I prefer a two piece set - round neck long sleeved top and bottoms in cotton.

The revere collar on pyjamas gets scrunched up in my neck.

Daisymay2 · 15/12/2023 23:47

No you’re not. I loathe PJs, always have. Restrictive, loads of fabric everywhere. Then you hear people wondering if they should wear pants and bras underneath. Not warm enough to laze around in the evening. Just no. But each to their own.

Bed jacket .

LinguisticallyCunning · 15/12/2023 23:48

No. They ride up when you're sitting down or are in bed. I bought some fleecely lined jogging bottoms from Amazon and they are so much warmer and more comfortable than any PJ's I've ever owned.

Allmarbleslost · 15/12/2023 23:49

My DM wears nighties and she's only 74 so....

SkaneTos · 15/12/2023 23:49

I like both a nightie and pyjamas!

olympicsrock · 15/12/2023 23:49

Nightie here too

ShirleyPhallus · 15/12/2023 23:49

I find nighties so uncomfortable, they always end up bunched up around your waist leaving a thick wodge of material underneath you

Someone will be along soon to tell you that they’re good as they let your fanny breathe. Why it needs to breathe I have no idea

iammother · 15/12/2023 23:50

@Choccyp1g 'If Only If' are the brand for long sleeves and with length ❤️

theduchessofspork · 15/12/2023 23:51

Can’t stand wearing anything -

But if I was forced to, a nightdress would be better than the sweaty hell that is pyjamas..

Germolenequeen · 15/12/2023 23:53

Ewww just the thought of a nightie 😱

Wolvesart · 15/12/2023 23:54

I’ve never liked pjs, too restrictive. Night dresses come in all styles and I doubt anyone of 90 wears the kind of big T shirt type thing I like.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 15/12/2023 23:55

When I was younger I preferred to sleep without clothes but now I wear a nightdress. I usually stay dressed from getting up to bed time. I don't understand pyjamas all day.

Gunpla · 15/12/2023 23:56

Nighties and pyjamas both ride up, either around your waist or your calves. I just wear a t shirt. If I had to choose between nighties and pyjamas, I'd choose pyjamas because nighties have the worst riding up problem. So uncomfortable!

BeadedBubbles · 15/12/2023 23:56

Much prefer nighties but seems impossible to find ones I like at the moment. I like a long nighty, in soft material, no buttons, no lace, no collar and long sleeves.

I find PJs too uncomfortable.

BooBooBaloo · 16/12/2023 00:01

God no, oodie sleep tees for the win! They are cool, they are massive, not restrictive at all
