Am I the only person under 90 who prefers a nightie

to pyjamas?

MN is full of people who snuggle in their PJs, have a pyjama day, love them so much they long to spend the whole of Christmas Day in them.

But me ... I prefer a nightie. Anyone else?

Men give off oils which turn white linen yellow. So you either sack off white duvet covers, sheets, pillows or make them wear something that absorbs it.

Nightie here too.

A good washing powder will bring up white linen as white again. We use Persil non-bio.

White linen is so much easier than colourful linen

I wear pjs, but only sleep in the top. The bottoms go on when I get up in the morning and I wear them until I get dressed properly. If I wore a nightie I'd have to put something else on my legs when I got up. In the summer I just wear a pj top.

Your man is faulty. Can you get another one 😂?

Pyjamas to lounge around in, then a nightshirt in bed. My legs get too hot in pyjamas in bed.

Theoldwoman · 16/12/2023 13:26

I haven’t worn pyjamas since I was about 8 years old. Always nighties here.

OneTC · 16/12/2023 13:27

No my mum likes them and she's only 88

  1. Buy white 100% cotton bedclothes and add a bleach tablet to the powder drawer every couple of months.
  2. Put your man through a thorough shower every night with plenty of soap. One of these might help if he lacks thoroughness.

Not pyjamas! They twist around my legs in my sleep. I used to commandeer my husband’s work shirts and sleep in those but after having a baby I wanted to try and avoid feeling frumpy and bought a number of silk strappy nighties and now I won’t go back! Soft, comfy, light and I feel like a goddess getting ready for bed at night 🥰. If it’s cold I’ll layer up with blankets instead.

I'm 68 I like wearing PJs but not to go to sleep in
I end up sweating like a cockle and the legs are all twisted.
I wear I strappy nightie in bed and PJs around the house.
My one complaint is that the tops aren't long enough.

Don’t you wake up with it round your neck though?! I sleep naked, I can’t stand any sort of sleepwear, but nighties always look to me like they’d end up all sorts of places!

I really can't imagine how some people sleep? My nighties are like baggy sleeveless cotton knee length tees, and no, they most certainly don't end up around my neck. When I wake up they are in the same place they were when I went to sleep! The top sheet (not in the UK, we use two sheets here) and duvet might move, my nightie doesn't!

Ktime · 16/12/2023 19:19

I’m imagining them as sweaty octopuses. I also sleep happily in long sleeved cotton top, bottoms and underwear.

I’ve noticed that I sweat less when wearing nightwear, and sleep articles have confirmed this as well.

I absolutely hate them. Wore them as a child, not by choice. And wore them in hospital after having babies when I had a catheter in. Other than that it’s a firm no to nighties from me. Even the name makes me shudder.
