Am I the only person under 90 who prefers a nightie

to pyjamas?

MN is full of people who snuggle in their PJs, have a pyjama day, love them so much they long to spend the whole of Christmas Day in them.

But me ... I prefer a nightie. Anyone else?

Lands end do nice long sleeved jersey nighties need to wait for the sale though as not cheap. Popsy also have one or two

JMSA · 16/12/2023 09:13

My 22 year old loves a nightie! She wears the oversized Oodie one with pockets. It takes a while to dry but the material is absolute luxury. So thick and stretchy.

silverheartstogether · 16/12/2023 09:17

I'm 38 and I sleep in a vest top and knickers. I cannot stand material on my legs or arms at night, be that PJs or a nightie! Must be a sensory thing.

Sgtmajormummy · 16/12/2023 09:21

XL T-shirts most of the year and fresh pjs specifically for pottering around the house, not sleeping.
I usually sleep with no covers and need varying thickness of nightdress. Currently wearing flannel long sleeve nightshirts.

Come to Italy and you’ll be spoilt for choice in any chain store or local market.

Mongrelsrbeautiful · 16/12/2023 09:30

I slept nude from age 18 to about 48,when I felt some modesty was required, as I have a son (older mother, I didn't wait until he was 20🤣). I now wear short slip style nighties. They do ride up, but they are so short and thin, there is no bunching problem. I hate being hot in bed. The idea of even short sleeves makes me cringe. To the pp who said they didn't understand the need for your nether regions to "breathe" - it's to help prevent thrush, for those who suffer.

RuthW · 16/12/2023 09:30

Hate pjs. Nightshirt for me.

Choccyp1g · 15/12/2023 23:43

Me too.
I sit up reading in bed, and find jamas give me a wedgie.
I wish I could find longer nighties and with long sleeves.

Try Popsy.

SquashPenguin · 16/12/2023 09:32

Don’t you wake up with it round your neck though?! I sleep naked, I can’t stand any sort of sleepwear, but nighties always look to me like they’d end up all sorts of places!

captainsudoku · 16/12/2023 09:33

I wear nighties as I don't like the elastic waist of pyjama bottoms. Also my legs get too hot in them.

I have bought some lovely modal chemise style nightdresses from Amazon recently and I also have a few older short sleeved short nighties. I don't find they get bunched up.

Perfectlystill · 16/12/2023 09:40

I love nighties! I wear cotton shirt style nighties and fluffy socks when it's cold.

KimberleyClark · 16/12/2023 09:43

I love full length pyjamas, although I’m 5ft 2 I don’t find them too long. Also like the cropped legs ones. Shortie pyjamas give me a wedgie. In hot summer I sleep naked though I don’t really like it. Avon have some lovely PJs.

cuthbertthecat · 16/12/2023 09:45

Always nighties. I have some minor sensory issues which mean I don't like things around my legs if I can help it and they get disproportionately hot (am often to be found with my top half wrapped in a duvet and blanket and my arse and below stuck out of the covers.

I like a jersey nightshirt or a modal nightie. Very loose. I do also like my Nancy to breathe Grin so go long so I don't flash anyone inadvertently.

Amazon have always been good as have Primark for a nightshirt if I can wade through the cartoon characters. I have one on my Christmas list.

My mother has always worn those long slinky ones, preferably in a bold colour.

Coastalcreeksider · 16/12/2023 09:47

Pyjamas for lounging around at night but never to sleep in.

Always a short sleeved nightie, Pyjamas get twisted around too much and are too hot.

SoupDragon · 16/12/2023 09:49

Long "cosy PJs for snuggling in" are crap for sleeping in. I hate the way the trousers ride up my legs. I can get on board with them as lounge wear though.

I either wear short ps and a camisole or a short modal nightdress to sleep in.

I am not 90.

Umph · 16/12/2023 09:53

I sleep naked. PJs are for mornings and evenings as far as I’m concerned. I’ll throw on a nightie in the summer instead of PJs but having my thighs touch makes my skin crawl so it’s a tricky one for me - there tends to have to be a talc application to make it bearable. I’m not especially large, just have a real thing about it!

TheCatfordCat · 16/12/2023 09:54

I'm too fat for shorties so opt for long trouser long sleeve PJ's in Winter, but in Summer I prefer nighties to let, ahem, certain parts breathe. My nighties are looonnnggg I don't like knee length ones they can be too revealing when I slob on the sofa! Always cotton. I hate silk or satin.

Alwaystired23 · 16/12/2023 09:55

I wear nighties. Pyjamas, yes for when I'm in the living room, but a nightie to sleep in.

Meggie2008 · 16/12/2023 10:02

No because I'm a restless sleeper and they ride right up. End up waking in the morning with them half way round my neck. 😂

zeibesaffron · 16/12/2023 10:03

I don’t own PJ’s - have never snuggled in them, and always wear a nighty 😀

UndertheCedartree · 16/12/2023 10:03

My DD likes them in the summer and I wear one occasionally in the summer too. But winter we like pyjamas.

I don't think you can be the only one, though considering how many they sell in the shops.

Poorlymumma · 16/12/2023 10:06

I've only ever bought a maternity one to go into hospital with when I had my son.

Genuinely don't understand people saying they prefer a nightie on their period. Why?

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 16/12/2023 10:10

I like the baggy t shirt sleepwear.

I hate hate pyjamas. I’ve tried so often but just end up feeling constricted. I like arms and legs and bits uncovered.

These baggy t shirt things used to be available everywhere but are now quite hard to find. They aren’t nighties though.

cuthbertthecat · 16/12/2023 10:18

@Poorlymumma for me I get hot in my period and nighties are cooler. Plus in my younger days I'd be heaviest at night and prefer to wear a pad so pants, a pad and pjs were too bulky.

Plus i ruined my favourite pair of pjs as a teen with a massacre level leak and that put me off.
