Am I the only person under 90 who prefers a nightie

to pyjamas?

MN is full of people who snuggle in their PJs, have a pyjama day, love them so much they long to spend the whole of Christmas Day in them.

But me ... I prefer a nightie. Anyone else?

Nighties twist when you turn over. Also I hate my knees touching when I lay on my side so need pj bottoms to stop that happening

I was about to comment but you have said everything I was going to say 😁

saltinesandcoffeecups · 16/12/2023 01:55

All of you are weird… t-shirt and undies all the way. Maybe a pair of sleep shorts if I’m staying somewhere other than home.

EconomyClassRockstar · 16/12/2023 01:59

I wear pjs around the house but sleep naked. Every time I've tried nighties, I feel like a 1990s housewife. Like, remember when everyone apparently wore fancy undies and nightwear? I feel like I was missing the gene on that one.

dorriss · 16/12/2023 02:24

ageist. how do you know what 90 year olds wear?

phallusfallacy · 16/12/2023 02:27

Shien do loads of styles of nightie

Sholkedabemus · 16/12/2023 02:27

I can’t stand wearing pyjamas, I just don’t find them comfortable. #nightie for me.

Catsmere · 16/12/2023 02:29

I wear either, depending on the weather. It has to be fairly chilly for me to wear PJs all night, because I have a large hot water bottle cat sleeping with me. Mostly I wear sleepwear in the evening, then take it off for bed.

Cotton nighties are good for summer evenings.

Angrymum22 · 16/12/2023 02:32

I wear nighties, well actually they are M&S slips. They come in various lengths and are really soft and stretchy so don’t wrap tightly around you. I have a couple of longer nighties for when it’s colder. I prefer strappy tops because I don’t like being too warm.
I never used to wear anything and tried pjs but didn’t find them comfortable.

chaosmaker · 16/12/2023 03:02

naked is best with a nearby dressing gown in case you have to run out of the house for some reason.

BrokenBonesStixStones · 16/12/2023 03:04

I always find a nightie doesn't move with me if I turn in the bed so I wake with it strangling my body - prob just me though

TeachesOfPeaches · 16/12/2023 03:27

I've been catching up with eastenders in time for Xmas and Sonja wear the most horrific long white nightie to try and engage her husband in nighttime activities

immms · 16/12/2023 03:28

Name changed because identifying. Yes really!Me too. I have a couple of pairs of pyjama bottoms but it has to be really cold for me to wear them.

I love my nighties. I have loads, short sleeved, long sleeved, very long to short, in different fabrics. My most unusual is a black velvet, ankle length, Victorian style nightdress.

Ireallycantthinkofagoodone · 16/12/2023 03:31

I am 73, and don’t wear anything in bed. I toss and turn a lot, so any type of clothing would just get tangled around me.

Caswallonthefox · 16/12/2023 04:02

I wear shorts (they look like cycling shorts) and a t-shirt. I have 1 slightly fatter leg than the other due to shit circulation, which means my legs rub together. I'd wear a nightie but still wear my shorts. I do find that I end up all twisted up in nighties though.
I also wear socks until my feet warm up, don't use any kind of heated object to warm my bed and wear a dressing gown in bed sometimes

Catsmere · 16/12/2023 04:04

@BrokenBonesStixStones not just you, I tend to find that too. Doesn't happen so much with the elongated-t shirt type, curiously. Perhaps it's because they're stretchy fabric.

The undies you wore all day?

ChocolateCinderToffee · 16/12/2023 04:45

Can’t stand pjs. I am very restless and they get wrapped round your legs. I get nightdresses and nightshirts from M&S but their range is very limited these days.

Houseplanter · 16/12/2023 04:54

@ChristmasAgainWTAF do you have that Amazon nightie?

Just wondered if it's as long as it looks and doesn't shrink?

ithinkthatmaybeimdreaming · 16/12/2023 05:37

I only wear pjs in winter, as I feel they are warmer - but they are leggings and a sort of sweatshirt-like top. In summer I wear cotton nighties, but they are more like long, sleeveless tees. Oh, and I am under 90 (but in my 60s).

Seriously, what do you think could happen??????

What a brilliant idea - thank you. I was wondering this morning what I will do as my nighties eventually wear out (I'm fussy!). I have a couple of bamboo slips in a drawer which I never wear - perfect!!!

I wear leggings in the winter instead of pj pants, which was another tip I picked up on MN.

Me too.

I only wear nighties. I love a good cotton Victorian style one with long sleeves. Mostly I wear light cotton or jersey ones. I never, ever have issues with twisting or riding up.

The thoughts of wearing some sort of bottom/shorts in bed 🫣

StarlightLady · 16/12/2023 05:55

l’ve slept naked since l was about 14, 40s now. I really don’t like wearing anything to bed. The only exception is during the first couple of days of a heavy period when l wear knickers.

Evenings in? I tend to wear a loose dress ot, occasionally a tee with leggings. Maybe topped with a cardigan.

Perhapsanorhertimewouldbebetter · 16/12/2023 06:00

Nighties are good in the summer, PJs in winter and for hotels.
