Am I the only person under 90 who prefers a nightie

CorneliaAvenue · 15/12/2023 23:38

to pyjamas?

MN is full of people who snuggle in their PJs, have a pyjama day, love them so much they long to spend the whole of Christmas Day in them.

But me ... I prefer a nightie. Anyone else?

I wear Oodie nighties in summer/spring/autumn but wear pj pants under them, different type depending on the season.

Mary28 · 16/12/2023 12:01

I've started wearing a those long t-shirt type nighties since perimenopause because I sweat so much it's the handiest and coolest thing I can wear.
Aside from that I couldn't care less what I or anyone else wears to bed. Half the people I know say they sleep naked anyway.

mogtheexcellent · 16/12/2023 12:03

I only sleep in nighties. Dd also wears them a lot.

Landsend are good for long ones. Dds are slso from there in brushed cotton.

MrsSkylerWhite · 16/12/2023 12:03

For actual sleeping, yes but love pjs during the day, so comfortable.

Spidey66 · 16/12/2023 12:10

Nightie for me. I like my bits to air. Though if it's freezing I'll wear a pair of leggings and maybe socks too. Mid 50s.

MotherofPearl · 16/12/2023 12:13

Pure cotton plain white nightdresses in summer and winter for me. I favour Powell Craft. I'm (just) under 50.

I don't like pyjamas (hot and uncomfortable), but I also don't like most of the nightdresses and nighties I see in the shops, especially those with infantile slogans or cartoon characters on them, or any non-cotton or jersey fabrics.

Perfectlystill · 16/12/2023 12:14

Please can everyone keep posting their nightie links!

I have had nightshirts from Bonsoir but they are cut very oddly so won't buy from there again.

GingerLiberalFeminist · 16/12/2023 12:15

Nighties and nightshirts are wonderful. Who needs their belly and thighs restricted by trousers?!!

GrannyPantsAreGreat · 16/12/2023 12:16

I personally love a nightie. I'm under 30 and everything.
Try a Powell Craft one. They are beautiful. You will instantly become a pretty fair maiden!

JellyfishandShells · 16/12/2023 12:19

My ideal is fine cotton jersey, short sleeved in winter, sleeveless in summer , below knee. No riding up or twisting - I find it does do that with woven fabric. Loathe pyjamas to sleep in, except camping or in friends’ very cold house ( I live with human hot water bottle)

I wouldn’t wear pyjamas in the day or evening - but my indoor day wear in the winter is yoga pants and long sleeved T shirt so much the same effect of comfort, without either looking like I’m ill or a child.

AutumnNymph · 16/12/2023 12:21

Total nightie person here. Full length , cotton only, I buy them in bulk everytime I travel to India. Oh and I am early (barely) 40s

doodlepants · 16/12/2023 12:27

Nighties just end up bunched up about my middle by the morning because I move so much!!!

StarlightLady · 16/12/2023 12:30

This thread is slowly changing to “How many layers do you put on to go to bed?” 😂

If you want sex by the time you get so much off you must be exhausted 🤔.

QueSyrahSyrah · 16/12/2023 12:31

Same as @doodlepants, I always end up with the nightie scrunched uncomfortably up round my waist or chest.

Always PJs for me, I've got long, short, cosy, cool, silky, fleecy.... PJs for all occasions.

mantyzer · 16/12/2023 12:51

ShirleyPhallus · 15/12/2023 23:49

I find nighties so uncomfortable, they always end up bunched up around your waist leaving a thick wodge of material underneath you

Someone will be along soon to tell you that they’re good as they let your fanny breathe. Why it needs to breathe I have no idea

Mine don't. They stay down.

mantyzer · 16/12/2023 12:54

Online Sandras does old fashioned nighties. But just google fleece cotton nighties.

justasking111 · 16/12/2023 12:57

Anyone interested in a link to night shirts for the men. OH loves his in the winter?

I don't like the look of their new range of black nightdresses. I favour the Katherine (white) which is less voluminous than some of their designs.

Wolvesart · 16/12/2023 00:04

And only the really short ones have much of a tendency to ride up

I disagree. I had mid-calf night dresses as a child and they ended up bunched around my ribcage every night.

Those are lovely 💕

Guavafish1 · 16/12/2023 13:04

I love a nightie! I'm in my 30s

immies · 16/12/2023 13:07

Those Powell craft nightdresses are lovely @MotherofPearl I like the black cotton. I do like the white, but I can never wear white as it doesn't suit me at all. I look dead, frankly.

Northsideoftheriver · 16/12/2023 13:08

I read this and laughed. I am having a slob morning and won't be getting dressed until I have to. I'm in my nightie. I wear PJ's that are baggy but my preference is nightie. MIL bought me one 14 years ago for Christmas which I could start a thread on and I liked it that much I kept buying them. DH calls it contraception for a joke and said his mum meant well.

Soubriquet · 16/12/2023 13:09

I always a nightie. I don’t like the trousers around my legs. But at night I only sleep in a pair of knickers
