Am I the only person under 90 who prefers a nightie

to pyjamas?

MN is full of people who snuggle in their PJs, have a pyjama day, love them so much they long to spend the whole of Christmas Day in them.

But me ... I prefer a nightie. Anyone else?

Reading this thread has for the first time made me realise nightie is a seriously odd word. I've read it too many times in quick succession. Back to the Q I do generally think it's typically an older person's garment. That said, I had a couple for giving birth/maternity ward. They were recommended by my midwife and definitely useful.

Glad to meet other nightie lovers!

They don't ride up if you wedge them down with your bottom. Will do a diagram ...

And only the really short ones have much of a tendency to ride up

Lomg sleeve nighties (Jersey only) are the best. Very hard to find unfortunately. Am wearing one now.

If you find any please share

Bellavida99 · 16/12/2023 00:09

Nighties twist when you turn over. Also I hate my knees touching when I lay on my side so need pj bottoms to stop that happening

LuluBlakey1 · 16/12/2023 00:10

I never sleep in PJs. In the summer I usually wear nothing. In the winter I wear nighties- thin cotton/cotton jersey, sleeveless, above the knee nighties- no collars, no buttons, scooped neck but not too low cut and absolutely no 'slogans' or 'cute' emblems. Can't bear pyjamas in bed, and I think onsies are minging at any time.

MissMuffetisin · 16/12/2023 00:11

Lands End to long sleeve cotton jersey nightdresses in various prints and lengths. They don’t shrink , which I find a lot of cheaper ones do after a few washes

Honeyroar · 16/12/2023 00:11

i hate PJs. The legs ride up. I prefer a night short/xl t shirt.

MissBuffyAnneSummers · 16/12/2023 00:11

I always wear a nightie.

I get too hot wearing pjs with long legs.

mrsfollowill · 16/12/2023 00:19

Utterly hate PJs - I wear cotton nighties from M&S every night. I cannot bear my legs being covered up- they need to be free! I do not get the PJ love.

I've got a lovely long jersey nightie with pockets no less!
From M&S last year. I love it.

PivotPivotmakingmargaritas · 16/12/2023 00:26

I’m 41 and have worn nighties for over twenty years in winter or an Aussie summer. Pj bottoms right up and get twisted and I feel so uncomfortable having my lady parts being covered day and night in restrictive clothes

Gingerbee · 16/12/2023 00:28

I can't stand PJs. Totally uncomfortable.
Only time I wear PJs is when I go camping. Stops the insect bites on the way to the loo.
I wear a mid length nightie or oversized shirt.

Teenagehorrorbag · 16/12/2023 00:29

Could never wear PJs, I don't like things flapping around my legs! When I'm in bed with DH I get really warm so just wear pants, but if I'm in the spare room (when he has a cold, is snoring etc) I wear a nightie. It's basically a longish baggy teeshirt.

bluesatin · 16/12/2023 00:29

I wear nothing, but DH wears a nightshirt. He doesn't like pjs either.

Backfromhols · 16/12/2023 00:29

100% only west nighties, no PJs!

CharlotteBog · 16/12/2023 00:30

Actually it's called a lounge dress. Is that just the modern word for nightie, like thermal underwear is now called base layers?!

SocksAndTheCity · 16/12/2023 00:31

I've had it a while so possibly not that useful, but the last plain jersey, long sleeved and long nightie I bought came from La Redoute.

I wish I'd bought half a dozen, although M&S get them occasionally. I only like pyjamas for around the house.

AnnieSnap · 16/12/2023 00:32

I wear a nightie in the summer. In the winter I like cosy pyjamas! Oh and I’m not 90 😳

Clarabellasingsthisbit · 16/12/2023 00:32

Always nighties.Usually knee length, sleeveless, cotton or cotton jersey.

I do have a couple of full-length long-sleeved brushed cotton nighties but even in winter I find they get too warm so they've been consigned to the Drawer of Useless Things 😕

Strawberryshortcake90 · 16/12/2023 00:33

M&S do cropped pjs, I’m the same height as you and they’re just below the knee on me. £12 a pair if I remember rightly.

Strawberryshortcake90 · 16/12/2023 00:35

Sorry that was meant to be a reply to @Sandytoxic

I’ve never been able to get on with nighties, always ride up
