Am I the only person under 90 who prefers a nightie

CorneliaAvenue · 15/12/2023 23:38

to pyjamas?

MN is full of people who snuggle in their PJs, have a pyjama day, love them so much they long to spend the whole of Christmas Day in them.

But me ... I prefer a nightie. Anyone else?

OP posts:

I prefer nighties all year round and I'm not 90!

honeylulu · 16/12/2023 00:41

Much prefer a cotton slip style nightie. I like my privates and armpits free of garment. Feel too bundled up and sweaty otherwise.

If I didn't have kids I would still sleep naked but the nightie preserves modesty if I bump into teen on the landing or if youngest climbs into our bed for a cuddle.

I do have some pyjamas but only wear them when it's really cold. My evening lounge wear is yoga leggings and a hoodie.

Ewww just the thought of a nightie 😱

Confused are they scary

I have nighties, and shortie pj sets.

I'm only 5’2, so full length pyjama bottoms are too long on me. I struggle to find cropped bottoms.

I get caught up in nighties when I turn over so PJs. Sympathise with this. Some shops have good short length trousers (M&S for me) but think our legs grow overnight (I can’t sew to just shorten unfortunately).

Strawberrycheesecake7 · 16/12/2023 00:44

I prefer a nightie and I’m 25. They’re much more comfortable and less restrictive than pjs. But then I also wear skirts and dresses during the day so it’s what I’m used to. I only wear pjs if it’s really cold.

Bought a few of these in the summer, they're so comfy!

Me too.
I sit up reading in bed, and find jamas give me a wedgie.
I wish I could find longer nighties and with long sleeves.

And @BeadedBubbles

Look at lands end supima cotton t shirty style ones. Soft, plain, and they come in various lengths and sleeve types including long length and long sleeves. They are not cheap at full price, but mine were bought in their sales. Last for years. Can't recall when I got mine but at least 5 years ago and still in good condition.

LeaveBritneyAlone · 16/12/2023 00:54

Me too OP! I really want one of those OTT granny ones too. I love being comfortable and cool in bed

HPD76 · 16/12/2023 00:59

I love nighties, but the t-shirt style rather than the full Wee Willie Winkie. I can’t stand pjs, I’m a very different size top and bottom and the tops are always too short even if sold as separates, so I’ll wear pj bottoms but normal tops for lounging in. Love my nighties, I get hot in bed and they cover me up but allow me to be cooler than when swaddled in pjs etc.

HPD76 · 16/12/2023 01:00

My only complaint about the t-shirt style nighties is they either have stars, stripes or some awful Disney theme.

sprigatito · 16/12/2023 01:01

I'm watching a movie in bed, wearing my most beloved and frumpiest baggy bobbly old nightie right now! So damn comfortable. DH sleeps in a holey old t shirt and I love that too 😊

ASGIRC · 16/12/2023 01:01

I dislike both to sleep in.
I find they both ride up!
In winter, if Im cold, I tend to sleep in a footed onesie (no riding up!) or just a long sleeve t shirt and socks. My legs tend to be fine, it[s my arms and feet that are cold!

As for wearing around the house, on a lazy day, PJs (or onesies) in winter, short nighties in summer

MistyGreenAndBlue · 16/12/2023 01:04

I have always worn nighties. Strappy ones in thin, cool fabric. I can't stand sleeves in bed or having my legs covered. I don't know how anyone puts up with it.

mondaytosunday · 16/12/2023 01:06

Me! I don't like anything round my legs and pjs just seem unhygienic (certainly don't want to wear pants to bed). Nighty is a stretch - mine are long oversized t-shirts.

BoogityBoogityFastestThingOnTwoFeet · 15/12/2023 23:43

Nightie or nightshirt?
I wear a cotton nightshirt but not a grannie nightie.
I can’t bear pj’s, I feel your bits should be allowed to breathe, ‘they are smothered enough in pants all day’
(quote from a recently departed old family friend said many, many years ago)

But how do your bits "breathe"? 🤔

My bits don't have lungs to breathe!

Sorry, I'm just a bit discombobulated at the thought of my bits, unknowingly to me, breathing! 😮

CarpeVitam · 16/12/2023 01:10

Sorry, that's @BoogityBoogityFastestThingOnTwoFeet

CarpeVitam · 16/12/2023 01:10

🤣

GertrudeJekyllAndHyde · 16/12/2023 01:13

Another vote for Lands End nighties, especially in their (almost permanent) sale. Choice of length and sleeve length and mercifully free of Disney.

EeesandWhizz · 16/12/2023 01:14

There's some long sleeved nightshirts at sainsburys/tu right now. They have buttons and don't look as cosy as the soft, long sleeved jersey one I got from there last year..

LadyWiddiothethird · 16/12/2023 01:18

Always a nightie,long,pure cotton.Sleeveless in Summer,long sleeved in Winter.

Catsarelikepringles · 16/12/2023 01:21

I never wore anything until our neighbours car went on fire and we were evacuated lol😂 but I do prefer nighties over PJs. To be fair it's usually men's t shirts specifically the ones from Asda on line I think.you get about 8 for.£30. I buy as they have.

I did buy several long floaty types.a.year or so ago. I imagined I was like a silent movie star wafting through the house all glamour and alluring, then I caught sight of.myself in the middle and the only movie.star I resembled was.Granny Clampett 🙄

Emeraldsanddiamonds · 16/12/2023 01:22

I really don't find pyjamas comfortable at all and they need a lot of washing. I prefer 100% cotton nightdreses and, in the middle of summer, silk slip nightdresses.

Nat6999 · 16/12/2023 01:30

I sleep in a brushed cotton long night shirt, pj bottoms always end up getting tangled around my legs in bed.

k1233 · 16/12/2023 01:48

Another nightie wearer. I hate pressure around my middle. I mostly prefer dresses during the day as well, particularly when at home. I've got a lot of house dresses. So much comfier IMO. For nighties, I've got racer back summer ones as I find bare shoulders and back better with our heat. Then i have sleeveless, long and short sleeved in short, mid and long lengths. I like nighties 😄

Fionaville · 16/12/2023 01:50

I love wearing my PJs, pretty much 90% of the time I spend at home. But I get changed into a nightie when I get into bed. I couldnt sleep with PJ pants on!
