Not flushing the toilet at night

DH always goes to the toilet (No.1) in the night and doesn’t flush. I’ve asked him repeatedly to please flush as it doesn’t wake me or the children up and I find it really disgusting to find wee in the toilet in the morning. He thinks I’m being unreasonable and says he does it for environmental reasons not just as it might wake people up. Me and the children rarely go to the toilet in the night but on the rare occasions we do I always flush after. He says this wakes him up and I’m being unreasonable. I don’t want to budge and think he’s being unreasonable, so I’m putting it to the vote.

Well lucky you not to be woken up by the loo flushing. I would be as I am a fairly light sleeper. Once awake it can take me ages to get back to sleep.

Not just about being woken though, do you not care about the waste of water?

If everyone is getting up and cleaning their toilet because it's had stale wees in it overnight doesn't that cancel out the environmental factor of not wasting water? Just a thought

I personally don't see flushing the toilet as a waste of water; that's just using water for its purpose to me.

I am your husband. I don’t flush at night because I don’t want to wake anyone up.
When others flush, it wakes me and annoys me. So I don’t want to wake anyone even if they probably won’t wake

I’m surprised at the amount of people who are saying they don’t regularly flush their toilets, day or night. I appreciate the thoughts about water but for me the hygiene/smell side of things overrides that. You’ve got my sympathy OP!

I rarely flush a wee (in my house) at any time of day or night. Seems so wasteful of all that water, especially since I went on a meter.

We only flush after 2-3 wees unless we have guests or the weather is hot. Feels like a total waste of water otherwise.

It's not illegal. It's just sometimes in contracts because some buildings carry noise and you are not supposed to be noise nuisance.
In some older buildings on continent you can hear people in apartments above flush

I always like when site where 3+ kids are vommon and usually encouraged is all about protecting planet😁

We don't, sorry wee dont! 😂because it wakes dh but I hate seeing the accumulation of wee in the morning so I flush it before I go then. If he didn't live here I'd definitely flush at night. Same here though he's the one that does a nightly trip the most.

We don't flush at night unless it's a no 2. I find it weird at my in laws though, people seem to flush any time of night and the pipes in the room we sleep in gurgle and make loads of noise until the tank refills. So I don't flush when I go there at night but then feel like they think I ming. But at Christmas when we were last there my DH's 2 year old nephew was going through a terrible sleep phase and we were all tiptoeing around after his bedtime - so why risk waking him with a nighttime flush!

I agree with you OP- waking up to fermented man-piss is nasty. It's a regular 'discussion' in my house too

As much as I don't like to get up with a toilet full of wee, we do have a credit crunch on and by not flushing this would save water. If it's poo yes then flush or if guests flush

Ask him to put the lid down. First one up in the morning flushes before opening the lid so is not grossed out. Problem solved.

What I don't understand is why people think that wee in a toilet bowl is unhygienic. Wee on a kitchen counter or in a bed maybe, but in a toilet? Really?

I have never flushed for a wee at night and that includes staying at other people's houses, where I live it's the done thing to leave a wee at night. I'm not gonna lie if it's just me at home I may not flush after a wee in the day too. But I'd always check my toilet before any guests & prob stick some bleach down and put a bit of bleach down after a 2.

We don't flush as we don't want the cats to hear us and want to come in to the bedroom 😂
