To want a PM who is actually going to address Covid?

We all know whoever wins, they will not speak about covid and the havoc it is causing on society still. Cases rising, hospitals bringing back social distancing, deaths going up. Measures such as mask wearing on public transport should have never ended.

OP posts:

But Johnson got covid done 🙄

Unfortunately covid has become political rather than a health issue so will continue to be ignored….

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 23/10/2022 12:01

Address it how?

zippalippa · 23/10/2022 12:02

I agree, long COVID is wrecking staffing levels in so many services and there is very little acknowledgement of this from government, let alone a plan to deal with it. Burying heads in the sand and denying reality is not working out well at all!

Isaidnoalready · 23/10/2022 12:02

Wear a mask if it makes you feel better realistically they are not going to reintroduce
Measures again they are relying on the vaccine to keep everyone safe

Noviembre · 23/10/2022 12:02

I don't think any of them, in any party, are going to mention it again.

Hospitals are fucked because of staffing and funding. Covid's making it worse but it's not the cause.

Topgub · 23/10/2022 12:02

I think from now on, they are going to treat it as if it were the Flu.

I’m recovering from my third bout of covid. I have felt really poorly at one point.

HelpMeGetThrough · 23/10/2022 12:03

And how many are going to pay any attention to the government on this? Their track record on sticking to "the rules" isn't exactly glowing.

OP is not the Prime Minister. I would argue it's a problem for government to sort out, not for Mumsnet to solve. They could start by admitting there's a problem in the first place instead of pretending everything is fine while our services and business are going under.

MrsSkylerWhite · 23/10/2022 12:04

The winter booster programme is rapidly getting through the age groups. I’m not sure what else you would like? You are free to wear masks as you see fit. I do 🤷‍♀️

BigWoollyJumpers · 23/10/2022 12:06

The group which is most effected, and puts most pressure on the NHS is the over 85's. If it wasn't Covid, it would be flu. The best measure to protect this group is vaccination for both, which is being rolled out. Nothing else will mitigate the decline in immunity for this group.

Topgub · 23/10/2022 12:06

Which services and businesses are going under because of covid right now?

What should the govt start doing?

Businesses were going under due to covid restrictions..

What exactly should the govt be doing?

Vaccinations are on schedule, what else?

Iheartmysmart · 23/10/2022 12:07

Assuming you’re a grown adult with a mind of your own, why can’t you take whatever steps you feel necessary to protect yourself from Covid?

Stuffin · 23/10/2022 12:07

You are entitled to your opinion OP but any party that even mentioned covid restrictions would never get my vote.

Redwineandroses · 23/10/2022 12:10

What is it you want them to do?

Masks, when used outside of a clinical setting were more unhygienic.. People basically taking a mask off their face which could be contaminated with covid as it has just touched their mouth and nose, putting that mask in their pocket or bag so contaminating that and their hands. Putting said mask back on when required to do so in the next place all the while touching things and contaminating them.

Masks are gross unless used properly; clean mask worn, removed after use and binned with hands then washed, are more likely to spread covid than not.

x2boys · 23/10/2022 12:10

We have vaccines and treatment ,what else can we do? even when mask wearing waa mandatory ,lots of people ,wouldnt or couldn't wear them ,we will continue to have waves of covid ,but this this is what living with it looks like.

PinkiOcelot · 23/10/2022 12:11

The hospital I work at isn’t introducing social distancing or mask wearing. Neither are we snowed under with covid patients.

If people want to mask wear etc then crack on, but I don’t so I won’t.

pd339 · 23/10/2022 12:12

Good God no. We ruined the economy for generations to come by "dealing with it" the first time round.

speakingofart · 23/10/2022 12:13

Genuinely, look around you. Have restrictions not done enough harm already?

CuriousCatfish · 23/10/2022 12:14

You can still wear a mask on public transport if you wish.A few people still do.

Acheyknees · 23/10/2022 12:16

Vaccines are available and masks can be worn if you want to. I think it's personal responsibility now not anything for the government to address.

JabberwockyPie · 23/10/2022 12:17

How would you like it addressed op? More vaccines that don't prevent transmission? Another lock down and furlough to completely destroy the economy? Not that it's far of that anyway. Forced mask wearing that made very little difference anyway?
