To want a PM who is actually going to address Covid?

We all know whoever wins, they will not speak about covid and the havoc it is causing on society still. Cases rising, hospitals bringing back social distancing, deaths going up. Measures such as mask wearing on public transport should have never ended.

OP posts:
OP83 · 23/10/2022 12:38

The government HAVE dealt with it by (eventually) treating us like responsible adults and finally allowing us to manage our own safety.

ANY party that even mentions COVID will not get my vote.

Deal with your focused paranoia in your own way and leave the rest of us to manage ourselves

gogohmm · 23/10/2022 12:39

@IndigoC

And how many died of other similar diseases?

People die of something - it's how many deaths a disease causes over what you would expect that matters

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 23/10/2022 12:40

To want a PM who is actually going to address Covid?

Did you miss an enormous and on-going vaccination programme?

YellowTreeHouse · 23/10/2022 12:40

There’s nothing to address 🙄

GreenWheat · 23/10/2022 12:40

Covid will never be "over". Expecting eradication isn't realistic, it's now endemic. The blunt choice is sacrifice the economy of the many or the lives of the few (now that deaths are much lower). Not a good position to be in, but that's effectively it.

IndigoC · 23/10/2022 12:41

Hbh17 · 23/10/2022 12:34

Spectacularly unreasonable! I think all politicians, from all parties, have now learned how much damage was caused by prolonged and unnecessary lockdowns, not to mention the resulting economic issues which are the reason why we are where we are now.
I don't really care who is PM, provided that they understand that there was a major over-reaction in 2020 and 2021.
The vaccination programme is still being funded, so just get up to date on your jabs and crack on. Covid is NOT a serious illness.

Who is advocating lockdowns? There’s a huge difference between masking on public transport like they are doing in Germany right now and lockdowns. Countries like South Korea managed to avoid ever having a national lockdown because they took other, less restrictive, measures that did not hurt their economy.

Helpmewithteen · 23/10/2022 12:43

Covid?

I’m never going to wear a mask again; never going to have a booster; never going to adhere to social distancing.

I just hope it’s never mentioned again to be honest.

If op wants to take precautions, go for it, but stop trying to enforce rules on the rest of us.

gotelltheoldmandowntheroad · 23/10/2022 12:44

Why don’t you move to a dictatorship country where you won’t have to think too much or make your own decisions and can feel safe?

Yeah, who gives a fuck if you infect a CEV person at work, or on your commute, right?

FourTeaFallOut · 23/10/2022 12:45

Yeah, that's what the country needs on the brink of a recession another round of staying indoors, working from home, killing off the hospitality industry, fucking up the continuity of our children's education. Let's see how many people poverty will kill off before they catch covid 🙄

You can’t enforce rules like that on free people
i never did any of those things because this is a free country not a dictatorship

Topgub · 23/10/2022 12:45

What is the actual risk of someone CEV of the current strain?

Aprilx · 23/10/2022 12:46

Of all the things I might look for in a new PM, addressing covid is very low on the list, in fact it isn’t even on my list.

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 23/10/2022 12:46

zippalippa · 23/10/2022 12:03

OP is not the Prime Minister. I would argue it's a problem for government to sort out, not for Mumsnet to solve. They could start by admitting there's a problem in the first place instead of pretending everything is fine while our services and business are going under.

“We admit there is a problem”.

Soooooo…. What next?

LizzieW1969 · 23/10/2022 12:46

I don’t agree, despite having suffered from Long Covid. Unfortunately, Covid is here to stay and restrictions didn’t work. And they were very damaging to our children and young people, I saw the impact on my 2 DDs (now 13 and 10).

Only thing that can be done is take the vaccine boosters available for both Covid and flu (which is also of a lot of concern to the NHS this winter).

It’s something we have to learn to live with, yes as we’ve always done with flu.

Are you personally "CEV"? If so, then I'm afraid it's up to you to take measures to protect yourself from this particular virus that you're afraid of.

If you are not "CEV" then do not use people who are as a shield for your anxieties.

Helpmewithteen · 23/10/2022 12:47

IndigoC · 23/10/2022 12:44

gotelltheoldmandowntheroad · 23/10/2022 12:48

I have CEV friends who never had a vaccine and neither have I and we saw each other the entire time through the whole thing
something dies not add up

roarfeckingroarr · 23/10/2022 12:50

YABVU

The OTT response to Covid - extended lockdowns and therefore furlough - is what got us into much of the financial mess we're in.

Wizzbangfizz · 23/10/2022 12:50

Take whatever measures you want - I certainly don’t want any government mentioning covid again - why would and should they?! It is just like any other flu virus now 🤷‍♀️

OP83 · 23/10/2022 12:51

IndigoC · 23/10/2022 12:44

Yeah, who gives a fuck if you infect a CEV person at work, or on your commute, right?

It’s this hysterical ‘do gooder’ attitude that silenced reasonable debate on the restrictions and lockdowns that ruined mental health and the economy for two years.

Hooverphobe · 23/10/2022 12:51

Some of us saying “sod off”
ARE CEV and are choosing to live in the here and now.

don’t use me as a shield.

Artygirlghost · 23/10/2022 12:51

Address it how?

The vaccine programmes are in place.

What government needs to address is the wider issue of the NHS lacking proper funding and capacity and doing more to support it.

You are welcome to continue to wear a mask and avoid crowds if you wish. I think the majority of us just want to carry on with life.

And I say that as someone who is middle-aged and has a long term health condition. I got my vaccines and boosters. Now I just get on with things.
