To want a PM who is actually going to address Covid?

We all know whoever wins, they will not speak about covid and the havoc it is causing on society still. Cases rising, hospitals bringing back social distancing, deaths going up. Measures such as mask wearing on public transport should have never ended.

OP posts:

@Inbredyokel

I simply can’t believe you are a medic.

Explain to me why choosing not to have the vaccine is selfish again?

(Reminder, I’ve had covid twice and barely noticed.)

How would taking the vaccine tomorrow, make me less selfish?

QED

You are free in your little bubble of ignorance to believe what you will.

But carrying on as you are, I have no doubt that, you will at some point possibly get to reap the "rewards", perhaps someone you care about might suffer a PE, be placed in ITU on a ventilator or be gifted with long COVID.
Having witnessed the fates (first hand) of a huge volume of similarly ignorant denizens, there is little point in discourse with you - you refute peer-reviewed evidence, conducted by highly trained diligent professionals, conducted under stringent robust parameters, built on decades of research and because you and others like you, simply can't wrap your tiny ignorant little heads around basic logic, you've suffered from confirmation bias into a troll hole of utter bilge.

Just because you haven't been greatly affected, doesn't mean that others around you can't be.

But I do thank you ever so much for so quickly proving my point.

Topgub · 23/10/2022 13:45

@MadelineUsher

@YetAnotherSpartacus

Why do you think people are selfish?

Genuinely, what is it thar you think people should do, given the actual levels of risk v benefits?

Inbredyokel · 23/10/2022 13:30

It is thoroughly depressing reading through the profound levels of selfishness and willful ignorance posted here. For those of you railing against the apparent fascism of masks, vaccines, science, modern medicine et al. there is no medical or scientific evidence supporting your wholly misinformed positions.
You are repeating nonsense cynically created on social media, sourced and repeated by people who have no scientific or medical background or any sort of understanding of what the problem is and how to deal with it.
You are literally arguing black is white.

As a medic, I find it tedious dealing with you.

I grow ever weary of arguing with you, your arguments last about as long as a snowflake versus a flamethrower, and even when you are completely disproved, you are shown to be the ignorant tiresome, selfish, entitled misled wretches that you are - you still argue.

If you feel so strongly in your misinformed position and don't believe in the efficacy of masks/vaccines etc, (i.e. you don't believe in modern medicine and science) please stay away from ED, A/E, UTC's, GP's and very definitely don't call 111 or 999...for anything.

Either you accept every we do as absolutely valid or you accept absolutely nothing - you can't have it both ways.

Someone's channelling their inner Sir Lancelot Spratt.

Lesserspottedmama · 23/10/2022 13:47

Honestly this is a bizarre thread OP. Can’t you see the restrictions have already done an immeasurable amount of harm. Masks do nothing other than in a strictly followed hospital protocol. I think people like the OP have lockdown nostalgia, just like some people looked back on WW2 fondly. Feel free to wear a mask and sit at home OP. The rest of us have lives to live.

NiteGarden · 23/10/2022 13:48

HRTFT

For people telling others to wear masks...

As far as I'm aware, wearing masks to prevent yourself from catching covid is pointless unless you're wearing medical grade masks.
Regular cheap masks allow droplets of covid floating in the air to be inhaled.

The benefit of wearing masks is only when everyone wears them as, even the cheap ones, stop the bulk of the droplets being dispersed into the air.

Covid will never be "over". Expecting eradication isn't realistic, it's now endemic. The blunt choice is sacrifice the economy of the many or the lives of the few (now that deaths are much lower). Not a good position to be in, but that's effectively it.

This. It will always be with us, just like flu viruses. All that can be done is being done.

Lockdown was totally necessary until the vaccination programme was up and running, and most people were innoculated.

What we'll have now is annual jabs for the vulnerable, just as we have for flu.

Another lockdown is unnecessary and counter productive - without an economy there would be no money for the NHS, welfare etc etc.

“Who are you referring to?”

sorry, was replying to telltheoldmandowntheroad

“Oh, then like me he may just feel that as the vaccine doesn’t stop transmission and as I’ve already have covid twice, both times extremely mildly, having the vaccine is simply unnecessary.
No need for conspiracies…just good old fashioned logic.”

I don’t believe it was ever claimed that the vaccines would prevent transmission. It was claimed that they would significantly reduce symptoms, which they do.

There is nothing that doesn’t “add up”.

There were huge hopes the vaccine would prevent transmission, and it was some time before they decided it didn't.

The possibility that it might was a major part of arguments in some countries that businesses should require all employees to be vaccinated. In places like Australia and Canada lots of people were on unpaid leave if they did not get vaccinated, including civil servants working from home, farm workers, and so on.

Goodness, you are so eloquent and intelligent my dear yokel - we are all of us, hanging off of your every loquacious word. Please bless us with more of your poetic wisdom.

NameChangeLifeChange · 23/10/2022 13:53

YABU covid is the least of our worries these days.

User46374636373 · 23/10/2022 13:53

Never going to happen. Most people are way past caring about covid to care, even if rules were brought back in no one would follow them! I spent about 2 years being incredibly about covid but I barely think about it now!

people can still wear masks if they want to and social distance if they want to!

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 23/10/2022 13:54

you refute peer-reviewed evidence

Point of grammatical order here - if a poster was refuting evidence s/he would be actually proving that the peer reviewed evidence isn't true. The word you want is deny.

OK, as you were.

Emmmie · 23/10/2022 13:56

Move to Canada. Even toddlers are frightened into wearing masks there.

Worriedddd · 23/10/2022 13:56

Oh fuck off COVID has gone on long enough. We have vaccines the virus is a mild flu for the vast majority of people.

667TheNeighbourOfTheBeast · 23/10/2022 13:56

I suspect the OP has buggered off after lighting the touch paper, but I don’t think she/he mentioned lockdowns again, just “addressing” Covid. Unless the OP makes a come back then we will never know what was meant by this. All sorts of things could be done like improving ventilation in schools work places etc but this won’t happen.

Inbredyokel · 23/10/2022 13:56

The fact that not a single one of you is able to refute or disprove anything I have written, let alone provide any basis for a reasonable argument...and the only thing that you can do is resort to childish name-calling, further reinforces my point of how utterly ill-suited to critical thinking you are.
With your collective (and individual) stupidity, I am amazed that when trying to negotiate the challenges of walking upright by yourselves, more of you don't fall down more often or routinely shit yourselves when faced with the challenge of using a toilet.

Badger1970 · 23/10/2022 13:57

God are people really still locking themselves away in fear of Covid?

What a sad way to live.

Tandora · 23/10/2022 13:57

You noted that I made in minor error in grammar!
The village trolls will carry you through the streets and people will think of you when they're doing the underpants charleston.

Dear sesquipedalian medic (assuming you actually are a doctor and not on the wind-up) - this is a discussion board, not a peer review committee, and moreover we're not required to abide by the arbitrary rules you've decided to set for the conversation so we can prove we're worthy of your time and attention.
