We all know whoever wins, they will not speak about covid and the havoc it is causing on society still. Cases rising, hospitals bringing back social distancing, deaths going up. Measures such as mask wearing on public transport should have never ended.

I’m not stopping them taking precautions.

Aren’t you, though? You sound like the type to mock someone for wearing a mask, to refer to it as a “face nappy”. The social pressure to not wear a mask is massive in this country. And quite ridiculous, as covid still represents a significant threat to those with major immune deficits. Even to the supposedly healthy. I have several friends who are suffering with long covid right now from the supposedly “mild” omicron strain. And yes, they were vaccinated. One is a brilliant writer who can no longer access words.

YANBU my husband is a paramedic the situation with staff shortages due to covid at hospitals and the NHS being almost on its knees could be helped by people wearing masks on public transport or crowded places. It annoys me that people can’t do this for half an hour when my husband and his colleagues in hospitals wear PPE for 12 hour shifts. People are so selfish. Boris just got rid of all the restrictions to be popular

You can't eliminate covid.
Covid will continue to spread.

We need to build natural resistance to diseases - not just covid.
Lack of exposure causes other medical risks.

Masks are causing problems with child development.

We have other ways to deal with covid.

The issue isn't covid now, its backlog for other health conditions and frankly thats where money / attention should be going now. Not on covid.

The NHS

which country are you in? I’m in England. I wear a mask in shops and on transport. No-one has ever pressured me not to 🤷‍♀️

The great thing about being an adult is that you can make your own decisions without worrying about “social pressure”. Wanting to be one of the gang should stop when you’re about 15.

Does it?

A significant threat?

Tons I’d imagine. But as you’re not Magnus Magnusson we won’t be doing “your answer for 10”.

IncompleteSenten · 23/10/2022 12:58

I think a better plan would be a complete overhaul of the NHS.
It haemorrhages money yet never seems to have enough where it counts.

It could be so much better.

@IndigoC

Died of or died with?

Admitted with or because of?

You have to look at the longer term stats for that. The short term stats just give a quick figure - for ease and simplicity. The longer terms stats are published later and in general they were fairly similar figures, though often slight out, but not by a huge amount - so the 'of' figure was slightly underplayed with actual deaths being slightly higher than the short term quick figures showed.

You can find the information on government pages iirr.

That was for previous case numbers anyway. Not looked for a while but that was the case previously.

I am considered vulnerable to the virus and was shielding. I caught covid for the first time a few weeks ago and it was fine. I have had worse colds (not that I’m trying to minimize the impact of covid that it can have on people) so please don’t assume that all people who are vulnerable will be seriously ill if they catch covid…

Scottishskifun · 23/10/2022 13:01

By all means wear a mask if you wish but make it the proper grade that actually provides any form of protection of a FFP2 or above.
The reality is its here to stay and actually for the majority of people exposure to covid helps create a immune response and lessens the impact of it over time.

There are more vulnerable people who should take care like they did previously.
The only thing I thinknthe govt should do which they currently aren't is to allow the NHS to prescribe evoshield to immunocompromised people.

Grumpybutfunny · 23/10/2022 13:02

Considering social distancing was blamed for kids needing liver transplants, this time many will be out in protest if we even think of sacrificing our kids to protect the vulnerable. We need disease to prevent autoimmunity.

Honestly it's a standard viral illness all of which can cause post viral fatigue. The issues in the NHS aren't because of COVID currently being in circulation, it's the back log and staff having to isolate when positive which they don't for flu or the common cold.

Borrowing more money for the NHS isn't an option so we just need to accept a substandard service. To be honest for serious things I've had no issues, things like minor fractures etc can wait in A&E, we also don't need to see a Gp for every little thing. Just come back from holiday where DS got an ear infection, trip to the pharmacy £45 for some steroid ear drops and it's all cleared up. Same thing in this country and as DS is under 12 would have to mess on with trying to get an appointment, taking time off work (Yey pharmacy in supermarket is 6am-11pm) to get the same outcome. Hopefully things change would even be happy to pay for GP appointments to improve the system like we do with dentistry!

Cheeseandlobster · 23/10/2022 13:02

PinkiOcelot · 23/10/2022 12:11

The hospital I work at isn’t introducing social distancing or mask wearing. Neither are we snowed under with covid patients.

If people want to mask wear etc then crack on, but I don’t so I won’t.

Same. Do you work at a hospital op?

Actually I am not ‘the type’ to mock anyone for doing anything that pleases them. I honestly couldn’t give two hoots what others choose to do.

I am the type however, who isn’t easily guilted into following futile restrictions in order to keep the peace or look ‘kind and selfless’.

I do not believe restrictions helped anyone.
I do believe they have caused huge problems, especially for children and young people who shouldn’t be worrying about covid full stop.
I don’t even believe the vaccine is worth having.
I believe CEV should take their own precautions and most I know are happy to do just that.

And after a good few years of this rubbish, I am well and truly over it.

China.

Of course they aren’t. But statistically they are at greater risk. And that risk depends on the specific condition.

Jourdain11 · 23/10/2022 13:05

I actually voted Tory in 2021 for the first and probably only time because I couldn't bear the misery mayor's determination to continue Covid measures which were destroying London businesses and lives. So, no, I wouldn't vote for any party which wanted to bring back restrictions.

Yeah, who gives a fuck if you infect a CEV person at work, or on your commute, right?

I'd love to know how you helped CEV people avoid seasonal flu on public transport or in your work before 2020. What steps did you take?
