My son is concerned as his female friend who is 14 is dating a 22 yr old man. He has just showed me her tik tok video and it is quite concerning.

AIBU to report it to school or get him too? Or is it none of our business and she can date who she wants.

OP posts:

Well she's underage isn't she but I guess it's her business what she does

piegone · 25/09/2022 20:30

That's not dating now, is it?

It's abuse. You don't have to ask this, surely?

Yes bring it to the attention of school.

OrigamiOwls · 25/09/2022 20:30

It would be none of your business if she was an adult. But she's 14!!! You need to report this.

piegone · 25/09/2022 20:30

Well she's underage isn't she but I guess it's her business what she does

What the fuck Confused

Dannexe · 25/09/2022 20:31

Id report to school

What?!!

Yes OP you need to report this because if hey are sleeping together he is committing statutory rape .

tickticksnooze · 25/09/2022 20:31

So you'd like to know if you should turn a blind eye to child abuse?

NotJustAnybody · 25/09/2022 20:32

That's a big age difference especially as she's still at school.
I think it depends how 'concerning' the tiktok video is. If there's a safeguarding concern, then it wouldn't hurt to inform the school but you may need to provide evidence. I'd like to think that if another adult knew my DC was doing something harmful, that they'd do something about it.

Blowyourowntrumpet · 25/09/2022 20:32

Definitely report it. This isn't "dating". She's a child

PigsInBlanketyBlankets · 25/09/2022 20:32

"Well she's underage isn't she but I guess it's her business what she does"

@Aretheyhavingalaugh are you having a laugh? Gross

countrym0u53 · 25/09/2022 20:32

Report it to school.
She's 14. She might think it's what she wants, but she is only 14 - she deserves to be protected from this older man taking advantage of her.

dementedpixie · 25/09/2022 20:32

Don't think statutory rape is a thing in the UK. It is still an issue so either tell the school or her parents if you know them

PigsInBlanketyBlankets · 25/09/2022 20:33

"Yes OP you need to report this because if hey are sleeping together he is committing statutory rape ."

Yeah, that's not a thing.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 25/09/2022 20:34

That’s not dating ffs.
100% I would report to the school_ I’d also stipulate my sons name stay out of it!

Thosefuckers · 25/09/2022 20:34

I’m confused. What’s actually in that tictoc video?

MrsMarlowe · 25/09/2022 20:34

PigsInBlanketyBlankets · 25/09/2022 20:33

Okay - well just rape then?

MsReid · 25/09/2022 20:34

I’d probably report it. That’s a really big gap at such a young age, I’d be worried about why a 22 year old would want to be with a 14 year old.

titchy · 25/09/2022 20:34

Aretheyhavingalaugh · 25/09/2022 20:29

Yay ignore the child being groomed, I mean what's the worst that could happen Hmm

CaveMum · 25/09/2022 20:35

She’s not dating, she’s being groomed and abused. Of course you should report it, to the school to begin with and if they do nothing then to social services.

MrsMarlowe · 25/09/2022 20:31

Not statutory rape. Just rape. Let's not sugar it.
If they are sleeping together he is a rapist.

Ringmaster27 · 25/09/2022 20:36

He’s a grown ass man.
She’s a child.
Theres a word for men like that.
Yes, it needs reporting!

FirewomanSam · 25/09/2022 20:36

dementedpixie · 25/09/2022 20:32

Don't think statutory rape is a thing in the UK. It is still an issue so either tell the school or her parents if you know them

The offence is called ‘sexual activity with a child’ and it’s absolutely illegal.

WhatALoadOfWankyness · 25/09/2022 20:36

Dannexe · 25/09/2022 20:31

Id report to school

Why ? Report straight to SS

angelsinstead · 25/09/2022 20:36

I can’t believe a parent would have to ask mumsnet if this is ok or not ffs

stillvicarinatutu · 25/09/2022 20:38

Is dating a euphemism for having sex ? Or ?
