This poor girl.

I've got three DDs I can't imagine how I'd be if this had happened to one of them.

Primark staff were helpful but say it's happened previously.

No shit, predators are of course going to prey on easy access semi clothed women.

We need to rise and revolt.

We need to vote with our feet and stop buying from shops endorsing this.

I’m all for inclusion and genuine trans people using the changing room they feel appropriate to them.

But random men roaming around a room where undressed women are only separated by a curtain is a disgrace.

Keyansier · 25/09/2022 12:10

There are none so blind as those who will not see.

Stopsnowing · 25/09/2022 12:11

How does one tell the difference?

A blanket no males beyond small children would he far easier to police.

Its unbelievable how so many would rather women and girls put up with this shit rather than males have one space they cant access when they have their own anyway.

How do you spot a genuine trans person?

SoupDragon · 25/09/2022 12:18

If they are going to insist on having unisex changing then the easy way to fix it is for solid changing room cubicles with lockable doors.

Obviously not cheap though.

OverTheHillAndDownTotherSide · 25/09/2022 12:15

How do you spot a genuine trans person?

The same way you can spot a rapist.

You can't. Which is why mixed sex doesn't work. And people forget about those who can't mix due to religious beliefs or who have been raped and really really don't want to strip down to underwear with a male outside a flimsy curtain.

Given one of the previous incidents that took place in a primark was filming related , no the answer is not lockable cubicals.

Its no men/males.

Teenyliving · 25/09/2022 12:19

I am also very happy for any female who feels they are trans to share female spaces

anyone with a dick can, however, fuck off. And then duck off some more.

If you actually read what I said, I said "if they are going to insist on unisex changing". Plus, how are you go to film through a solid cubicle?

Brokendaughter · 25/09/2022 12:26

The overwhelming majority of men who say they are women, even the ones who have plastic surgery to get fake breasts, still have all their male bits below the waist.

If you want to feel ill, there are many videos these men post of themselves masturbating in womens toilets.
Also there are a load who like to root through sanitary bins to take home used tampons for their personal enjoyment.
For men to do that, they have to get access to sanitary bins which are in the ladies.

No born male should be in womens spaces.
Their presence excludes many women who cannot share intimate spaces with men, so there should never be an exception.

By setting up a camera in there. How do you think 'changing room porn' is a thing?

ZealAndArdour · 25/09/2022 12:28

The cognitive dissonance going on here - “I’m all for mixed sex changing rooms so everyone feels included” - but at the same time is clearly devastated by the consequences of her inclusivity.

I really feel for her, you can see she is genuinely upset, but it doesn’t seem like the teachable moment taught her. That she is so grateful to Primark who put her in this situation and further validated the danger she and other customers could be in by walking her back to her car to protect her. It has an air of “the benevolent master” to it.

Omg seriously?

You can get tiny cameras cheap off amazon that link to your phone.

when it’s not solid floor to ceiling?

Yea I wonder this too. What happens when a ‘genuine trans person’ is also predatory? The two aren’t mutually exclusive

WhatALoadOfWankyness · 25/09/2022 12:35

Poor girl , this is why more and more people will shop online
just to stay safe
unfucking believable
im sick of this invasion of safe spaces

mamabear715 · 25/09/2022 12:36

I wasn't aware of this.. thank you for bringing it to our attention.
Luckily I usually buy clothes online so try on at home, but obviously that's not for everyone. I will make my female relatives aware.

Absolutely- floor to ceiling lockable cubicles would go some way to ensure physical safety. Though I'm not entirely sure I want to be changing next to men, and going into a cubicle that a man has previously been in if the respect shown in unisex single cubicle loos is replicated.

Primark you'll be responsible with your flimsy curtains when someone is assaulted.

And that will be one person too many.

OP posts:
Humbold · 25/09/2022 12:48

The fact that she is so apologetic because she knows she'd face social isolation and anger from her peer group for even intimating that there is an issue when you fail to keep your female customers safe and don't give a shit about them as long as you're shifting tons of clothes every week, is really, really sad. 'Primark were brilliant' she said through her tears.

I started a thread earlier this year about my experience in Primark. Nothing happened to me but it was an experience I have never repeated. I haven't banned my teenage DD from going there but I have said, take a girlfriend in with you. Never go in one alone to try on clothes.

www.mumsnet.com/talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4554434-to-hate-most-mixed-sex-fitting-rooms

To allow this to continue in the name of 'inclusion' is taking the piss and is totally negligent.

I hope this young woman doesn't get any backlash. I hope Primark take action.

Nothing is, though is it? There are abusive women out there. I know, I know not many. But compared to trans people, how many?! Is it comparable?

I really don’t like self ID. I think if you want to throw your lot in with women you should do the best you can to appear female and thus give up your automatically bestowed male privilege which you have based on your make appearance. I don’t think you can have it both ways. BUT that means prescribing how women ‘should’ look and would probably disqualify myself.

I would be happy with transwomen using female spaces when they are so far down the trans journey that they have had their penis removed. A female space should be penis free. I don’t know what proportion of trans women this includes, but I imagine it’s very small? I also don’t know how it should be policed. I recognise that there are still physical issues with powerful bodies, but I think it would shrink the problem down so far as to so be insignificant. It’s the fairest thing I can think of for both parties.

I also think this a wonderful red herring to detract from much bigger political problems of all kinds and I’m wondering who’s agenda that’s supporting? I’d bet it’s not women.

PeloFondo · 25/09/2022 12:56

To me it should be the same as toilets
Female, male, unisex. Three choices. Pick one
Nobody can complain then, it keeps females safe and anyone who wants to can use the unisex
But they won't do that so we end up losing women's spaces as of course it's always those and never the mens

What fair about men and males having a choice of 2 sets of changing rooms but many women now not even having 1?

Most transwomen keep their penis. And on its own a penis is not necessarily a problem its the man its attached to that decides what he is gonna do with it akd those thoughts and urges etc do not go away just because its been inverted.

lifeturnsonadime · 25/09/2022 13:02

I’m all for inclusion and genuine trans people using the changing room they feel appropriate to them.

In order for a man to be a genuine trans woman all he has to do is declare that his gender is female. Once this declaration is made he is a woman. There is no need to make any change to physical appearance and it's transphobic for you to suggest otherwise.
