AIBU?

To have not let my DD go to school in a Primark seamless set

Just that really. It’s non uniform day in school and she wanted to wear a crop top and those godawful see through leggings.

Shes worn mini skirts , ripped jeans etc into no uniform days before so i am not madly strict on clothes . The school is not overly strict but are quite hot on wearing the correct uniform, but these sets are just dreadful, and around our way worn by a certain group of teens which I don’t really want my DD hanging out with.

She went nuts , DH went nuts

Were we unreasonable

What she wears on one mufti day will not make any difference to who her friends are.

As she clearly already owns the stuff, she'll be wearing it when with her friends anyhow, so may as well wear on a non-uniform day.

Sunnyqueen · 09/09/2022 09:00

How old is she?

Dramachameleon · 09/09/2022 09:01

She’s 14

She already owns it. Unclench. She probably thinks your fashion sense is awful. Let her get on with it and add ot to the album. One day you'll laugh.

RicherThanYew · 09/09/2022 09:03

I hate the outfit that you've described op and it's worn by the arsehole teenagers where I live, it's like a uniform. Even for mufti it isn't appropriate.

Sunnyqueen · 09/09/2022 09:04

Hmm that is what they are all wearing now at that age, most of them anyway. I probably would have let her wear it or said she could wear the leggings with a t shirt or sweater

ICanTuckMyBoobsInMyPockets · 09/09/2022 09:07

A mufti day already? 😮‍💨

ImAvingOops · 09/09/2022 09:08

Yanbu - she's still going to school even on a non uniform day. Kids should still wear appropriate clothing.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 09/09/2022 09:10

I wouldn't have let her wear those either. It's one thing wearing it during the holidays when it is hot and sunny and everyone is half dressed, but wearing it to school is going to get the wrong kind of attention.

PuttingDownRoots · 09/09/2022 09:10

Isn't it normal for there to be a dress code even for non uniform? And crop top probably wouldn't be in it (or see through leggings...)

Isaidnoalready · 09/09/2022 09:12

She will end up being "that child" who ruined it for everyone and made them bring in "rules" I was almost that child mufti day wore a CND tshirt without thinking an teacher took "offence" especially as I knew exactly what it stood for they asked me not to wear it again please 😂

Dramachameleon · 09/09/2022 09:18

Yes they don’t allow tight leggings for sports (which is ridiculous imo)

The idea that it’s worn by certain teenagers is a big factor in this

Of course she shouldn't wear it to school, it sounds far too revealing - no uniform doesn't mean inappropriate dress.

WestendVBroadway · 09/09/2022 09:22

I have no idea what the particular 'set' is to which you are referring. However it is pouring with rain here and bloody cold so a crop top is a bit weird.

Afterfire · 09/09/2022 09:24

She will probably put it in her bag and get changed into it at school anyway. That’s what we would have done…! 🙈

Lucyintheskywithrubies · 09/09/2022 09:25

Can you post a picture of similar? I can’t picture it

Divebar2021 · 09/09/2022 09:26

Are they those honeycomb leggings which really emphasise the bum? If so it would be a no from me. With a shirt over can look ok but not for school

nachoavocado · 09/09/2022 09:28

See through leggings?!
I guess she can wear what she likes but take a photo to show her when she's 30 so she can look back and cringe.

But she OWNS this already so when does she wear it?

This.

Just explain to her that you have to dress for the time and place

InChocolateWeTrust · 09/09/2022 09:30

Yanbu.

Its school & she needs to be dressed appropriately for that.

nachoavocado · 09/09/2022 09:32

Are they mesh leggings? They look like underwear

SpiderinaWingMirror · 09/09/2022 09:58

I take no prisoners on that stuff. My 3 dds (2 now adults, 1 is 14) had boundaries. No ultra revealing clothes. Middle one had several screaming fits and no doubt on occasions changed at a mates house sometimes but I took the view that i was the adult and I was there for guidance and the odd hard no.

TwinkleChristmas · 09/09/2022 10:01

Buy her some non see through leggings?
