I ordered 2 make up bits from eBay.
They arrived and the next day a bottle of perfume came from the same seller (worth £100)
A week has passed and the seller has been messaging me asking me if I'm going to send the perfume back.
Then saying I can see you have it as it's been signed for (I didn't sign for it)
I paid by debit card
Can she do anything ?
Would you return it?

Of course I’d return it! Why wouldn’t you?

Yioeo · 01/03/2022 13:50

you are a thief

Comefromaway · 01/03/2022 13:50

You should return it but the onus is on them to pay for and arrange the return.

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 01/03/2022 13:50

Personally I would return it but expect them to pay for P&P

Cookiedough123 · 01/03/2022 13:50

I think morally as she has realised the mistake I would return it but I would ask them to cover postage.

Authenticcelestialmusic · 01/03/2022 13:50

Yes I’d return but expect the seller to reimburse my postage costs

Littlemissprosecco · 01/03/2022 13:50

Send it back, it’s not yours

Tillow4ever · 01/03/2022 13:50

The seller should refund you any cost of returning it, but I don't believe you can legally keep it even if it was sent to you by accident.

You know you didn't order or pay for it, it's not yours to keep.

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 01/03/2022 13:51

Of course I would return it!

You’re stealing from the seller, to the value of £100. That’s her / his livelihood for gods sake.

Send it back.

Hugasauras · 01/03/2022 13:51

I'd return it of course. Ask for the postage back if you're worried about being out of pocket. But no, you shouldn't keep something worth £100 that wasn't for you because someone made a mistake.

GeminiRising · 01/03/2022 13:51

Seller should pay for the return as it is their mistake but of course you should return it!

roses2 · 01/03/2022 13:51

Since she contacted you I would return it but ask her to pay return costs.

I'm assuming she's a small seller / individual and not a large corporate than can write this off.

rryyg · 01/03/2022 13:51

I was planning on returning it
It's just her attitude stank and she didn't even give me a chance to respond before she got nasty

QueenOfHell669 · 01/03/2022 13:52

Yabvu. Either pay for it or return it. You don’t know what struggles that £100 will cause - especially as they’ll need to re send it or refund whoever the order was truly meant for.
In practical terms I don’t think the seller can do much barring maybe report you to eBay (who themselves may not do much) but it’s very immoral to keep this item.

rryyg · 01/03/2022 13:52

She is a business seller on eBay

OP posts:
rryyg · 01/03/2022 13:52

What if she won't pay the postage costs of me sending it back ?

OP posts:
mumto2teenagers · 01/03/2022 13:52

Of course you need to return it, although as others have suggested you should ask for the seller to reimburse the postage costs.

Gustavo1 · 01/03/2022 13:52

I agree that it was an error and it’s unfair to keep it. You haven’t paid for it.
However, I would not be happy about having to go out to arrange return postage of this if it was an error that had nothing to do with me. I don’t live near a post office or having packing materials freely available so it would be an inconvenience to me.
The return is for the seller to arrange in my opinion.

QueenOfHell669 · 01/03/2022 13:53

The title literally says “AIBU to keep it?” You clearly didn’t post intending to return it, but you really should. My attitude would stink too if you sat on £100 of my money for “more than a week”.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 01/03/2022 13:53

Of course you should return it! She needs to pay the postage though

MorningStarling · 01/03/2022 13:53

Tell her to send you the return postage and you'll send when convenient.

Yioeo · 01/03/2022 13:53

which attitude and how is she nasty?
a week had passed and you didn't even bother telling her you had it

UserError012345 · 01/03/2022 13:53

This has just happened to me!!! Hermes delivered my parcel half a mile away. I would massively appreciate the incorrect addresses to return as I've now got to faff about making a claim etc.

I think although it would be nice to keep, you should return. The seller could be nicer about it especially as it her error!!

Yioeo · 01/03/2022 13:54

and your aibu is to keep it. thief

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 01/03/2022 13:54

You say “I’ll send it once you’ve arranged the postage” - I’m sure if she’s a business seller she can send you a pre paid sticker
