I ordered 2 make up bits from eBay.
They arrived and the next day a bottle of perfume came from the same seller (worth £100)
A week has passed and the seller has been messaging me asking me if I'm going to send the perfume back.
Then saying I can see you have it as it's been signed for (I didn't sign for it)
I paid by debit card
Can she do anything ?
Would you return it?

There are literally hundreds of women who are lawyers on MN and I have never seen anyone posting their thanks to whatever school they went to. So weird Confused

You're awfully cute.

Bit of a funny way of saying 'I don't know the function of parentheses'. So weird Grin

This happened to my MIL she got confused with packaging labels she was so upset when she realised. She knew who had the item and they just ignored her. Horrible way to treat someone.

LookItsMeAgain · 01/03/2022 15:19

My advice OP for whatever its worth is to contact the seller and say that you actually do have this bottle of perfume that they sent to you in error and it is available to be collected from your address. They can arrange for a courier to collect it or send you a stamped addressed envelope for you to just pop the bottle back into and pop into the post but you will not be packaging it back up and paying for postage or collection.

Don't be inconvenienced by them.

That's my advice.

Pbbananabagel · 01/03/2022 15:22

You can get her to organise a my Hermes or post office collection for it.

Pluvia · 01/03/2022 15:23

Have you opened it and tried it, OP? It must be very tempting.

Gonnagetgoing · 01/03/2022 15:24

I’d get her to send a pre paid label back to you and then a courier or post office to collect this.

I had similar with something costly sent to me from a large company and agreed no apology either or not much. It’s put me off ordering from them in future to be honest. I know mistakes happen though.

ExcuseeeeMe · 01/03/2022 15:24

@YforWanky

Tell the seller to email you a prepaid return label, and then when that comes, print it out and return it. Simple.

If you don't have a printer the seller should be able to arrange a paperless return via Royal Mail, where you just take a QR code on your phone to the post office for them to scan and they print the label for you.

Not every one lives close to a post office. I can’t get away from work to queue up at a post office during the times they are open . A courier or a pick up would be the only fair option.
GordenBennett · 01/03/2022 15:24

Sorry @LetHimHaveIt but you listing your qualifications did make me laugh Grin

Hellosunshine1234 · 01/03/2022 15:25

Of course you should return it, I can’t believe you need to ask.

BoodleBug51 · 01/03/2022 15:26

I'd only send it when I had a postage paid label arrive from her or a Hermes collection.

We live rurally and it's a fecking pain to get to a Post Office as the nearest one is 6 miles away. I wouldn't be breaking my neck to return it, it would be at my convenience too.

@Yioeo

you are a thief

This happened to me once but with a pair of shoes. I let the seller know immediately and asked for her address so I could return them to her. She asked if I’d post them to the intended recipient which I said that I was happy to do. I weighed the package and told her how much postage would cost and she seemed totally stunned that I expected her to reimburse me for the P&P. She became quite rude when I refused to post them until she’d transferred the money. She said it had been a genuine mistake and why should she have to pay postage for an item that she had already paid to send. Couldn’t quite believe what I was hearing 🤣 She eventually paid up but she wasn’t happy about it. I felt like taking the shoes to the charity shop after all the hassle

CatJumperTwat · 01/03/2022 15:28

Laughing at all the wannabe lawyers on this thread.

LeapYrBaby · 01/03/2022 15:28

I would have told them as soon as I opened the parcel and saw the extra item. You know it’s not yours and that you haven’t paid for it why do you feel entitled to keep it?

pinkstripeycat · 01/03/2022 15:28

As you can all see from EthelTheAardvark post link, OP is not a thief! There are some really nasty people on here, such aggression

What a cheek . She also shared someone’s private information with you.
Juno22 · 01/03/2022 15:31

I bet you smell lovely OP.....

You spent a week ignoring her messages until she told you she knew you had the item and you were caught out. Just ask her to arrange the return and send it back. No harm done.

Frauhubert · 01/03/2022 15:31

Putting aside that you must of course return it, aren’t you worried she’ll name and shame you online? Or post you something nasty via mail? I must confess, i still have no idea what it is, but a ‘liquid ass’ being sent by post has been mentioned on mumsnet once or twice. She’s got your name and address for f sake.
Plus, you must have realised straight away who the perfume was from as it was a seller you have bought from. Conveniently you sat quiet hoping she wouldn’t realise. Cheeky fucker 👍🏻

LeapYrBaby · 01/03/2022 15:32

@rryyg

What if she won't pay the postage costs of me sending it back ?
@rryyg Put it in the post with no postage and she’ll get the item eventually with a surcharge
Whammyyammy · 01/03/2022 15:36

You are clearly a thief. I hope karma has its day.
Of course you should sent it straight back, it's not yours as you didn't pay for it. Seller should provide an postal label. Its clearly a mistake, but easily rectified. But not if you intend to keep what is not yours

ToMockAKillingBird · 01/03/2022 15:37

Similar has happened to me, we ordered 3 conservatory sofas and we received 4. Left it in the garage for ages but it was never collected so I sold it 🤫

Get the seller to either collect or send you the p&p costs and then return it.

Really horrible. It’s an easy mistake to make, especially if you’re sending multiple packages.
Lizzy1980 · 01/03/2022 15:42

I’d also be feeling a bit sorry for the intended recipient waiting for their perfume to arrive

Whammyyammy · 01/03/2022 15:43

Unfortunately, thieves don't think like this
KarmaStar · 01/03/2022 15:44

If a week has passed and you kept quiet in not surprised she's annoyed.
Your ok suggests you were going to keep it but have rightly been told not to.it's theft.
Be honest and return it,at her cost.
