Any one else had a Christmas disaster!

Brought a lovely stuffed pork joint for Christmas dinner. Weighed it, worked out cooking times. All going great! Apart from the fact it weighed 1.5kg and I worked out the timings for a 2.5kg joint!

It was black, eyes were watering from all the smoke. It was ruined! Once dh aired the kitchen and we could all breath again we could have a laugh about it. The kids even used it as a excuse for needing two puddings as they would be so hungry lol

A less cheerful one - a much loved pet has become rapidly unwell since the evening of the 23rd. Suspected brain tumour. Still a relative baby. She still seems to want to eat but has seemingly forgotten how. With swift treatment we could maybe buy her some more time but all suitable vets are closed for the hols. We’re doing our best to keep her comfortable. Not really a cheerful household today...

Dominos wasn’t open so we’re having a Chinese instead, that’s our disaster for the day!

AnyFucker · 25/12/2021 17:19

Both adults dc’s tested positive

No disasters here, but apparently a dear relative cooked the Christmas Eve chicken using Christmas Day duck recipe.
Both meals 'ruined' (ie. Edible but odd).
The amount of WhatsApp chat given over to this was epic.

My vet has an emergency line to ring at Christmas, have you checked your vet's website?
Aprilx · 25/12/2021 17:30

DH decided to do pan fried sprouts. They are black and he doesn’t think they are done yet, honestly!

herestoyoucolinrobinson · 25/12/2021 17:33

It's not a disaster as such but DB and his partner arrived and announced they were staying over. I have a (few) chronic illness and I'm knackered and could really have done without it!

DramaAlpaca · 25/12/2021 17:34

I forgot to put the sprouts on.

All vets will have an emergency line - if you ring the surgery you should get through to the on-call receptionist.

Flowers for you.

SockFluffInTheBath · 25/12/2021 17:40

@ShiteChristmas call your vet’s phone number, there will be a recorded message for ooo cover. It might also be in their website.

Mine is also dog related but less catastrophic. 2 bouts of diarrhoea in the sitting room today. He’s now in the kitchen for the night but pacing and bashing into everything.

TheDogsMother · 25/12/2021 17:45

@ShiteChristmas I'm so sorry. I hope you get help soon.

Frauhubert · 25/12/2021 17:46

Yes. The oven broke just as we put the turkey in. It stopped heating at all.

MrsClatterbuck · 25/12/2021 17:52

Not a disaster really but I forgot to take the pigs in blankets out of the freezer last night. Tbh I wouldn't have had any room for them. Near disaster just half an hour after dinner our electric went off. Just our estate. Neighbour had her meat cooked but not the veg and family were due to arrive. Back on now so hopefully they are now tucking into their Christmas dinner and never has a cup of tea tasted so good.

StopGo · 25/12/2021 18:04

@ShiteChristmas just sending you my best

OnTheMoonWithSteve · 25/12/2021 18:12

So far just slightly burnt croissants for breakfast but dh is currently cooking dinner, slightly later than planned but so far all looking good. Not sure if there is going to be enough gravy, he insists there is, which in my eyes would be the worst disaster ever.

Both my brothers have Covid and I have a horrible streaming cold. DM is immunocompromised so we've cancelled our planned get together totally 😫. We're going to do it for Russian Christmas instead.

Isseywith3witchycats · 25/12/2021 18:30

Not a total disaster but my son announced an hour and a half before dinner was due that he was bringing his girlfriend and my grandaughter with him cue peeling extra veg, luckily i had bought two packs of pigs in blankets and a large turkey breast so we all had plenty to eat .

But a poor friend of mine had booked a table at a curry house for today for him his mom and daughter, when he booked it was told could order off the normal menu, got there today and was told christmas set menu at £49.99 each so he didnt go with it and went home

Purplespup16 · 25/12/2021 18:32

I forgot to buy Crackers and only realised when the food was on the table and DH asked where I put the Crackers so he could lay them out.

Lacedwithgrace · 25/12/2021 18:33

DD decided to smear chocolate into our brand new cream carpets after she creeped downstairs at 5am to open all of her presents thinking we wouldn't notice...

A glass pendant light above our dinner table exploded, covering all the food and our plates. Had to have christmas pud and picky bits instead.

Found out I'm pregnant though, which is less of a disaster!

crazyexornot · 25/12/2021 18:35

My mum who lives in Spain has fallen and broken and dislocated her ankle. They were meant to be back in a couple of weeks to do a late Christmas 😭

Changemaname1 · 25/12/2021 18:39

I have covid ! Still managed a nice day though Smile

goodegooseduck · 25/12/2021 18:40

Got a call from inlaws 2.5hrs before they were due to pitch up for dinner to say they weren't coming anymore.
No reason other than a better offer. When they realised I was mighty pissed off they tried to re-invite themselves a couple of hours later. I didn't let them come. So now I feel like shit and I have a mountain of leftovers.

Unescorted · 25/12/2021 18:43
