The title says it all.

Yes it's in the fail and in my rage I cannot work out how to copy the link.

Please tell me I'm wrong and missread the story?

Do you really think that's what is happening in Glasgow this week? World leaders discussing dolphins? YABU. Global warming isnt going to solve poverty or wars or inequalities, it's going to make them all worse. So if you care about 9 year old girls, or girls and women at all stop drawing fatuous comparisons.

Lockheart · 02/11/2021 22:35

It's possible to do both you know. A conference discussion the environment and climate doesn't mean you can't do anything else.

Bonsaibreaker · 02/11/2021 22:36

Not sure if it's me or you thats missing the point.

I find it sickening that the public are force fed "save the dolphins don't use straws" and they lap it up. Yet ignore 9 year old girls alive now that are legally raped by 55 year old men.

When was the last time world leaders got together to discuss child rape/marriage?

All the public are ignoring it? Is that why it's on a national news website, because everyone is ignoring it?
Busygoingblah · 02/11/2021 22:38

No one is ignoring or saying that is ok. Of course it’s not.

The trouble with climate change though is that it could ruin the lives of every nine year old girl worldwide.

Very very different issues.

Campervan69 · 02/11/2021 22:40

I saw the story. Utterly barbaric. How can those parents sell those little girls? The whole situation is sick.

seethesuninwintertime · 02/11/2021 22:40

What do you think would happen over the next 30 years if everyone stopped talking about climate change from now on?

Women and girls have been abused for ever. I suppose their lives don't matter.... as long as we have a healthy environment to continue their abuse.

The 55 year old man should be castrated!

Porcupineintherough · 02/11/2021 22:43

Ah so you think they should sort out the problems in Afghanistan in their lunch break? Have you not been paying attention for the last 20 years?

What is happening to this poor child is no more or less tragic than what happens to thousands (most likely hundreds of thousands) like her each and every year. This is not new. And if you want to stop it then go stop wars, go stop poverty, go stop exploitation. Something that we have never managed to do, not even in our own country.

FrankiesKnuckle · 02/11/2021 22:45

I have read the story on various news sites, and had a little cry and looked in my own sweet almost 9 year old. I cannot comprehend how desperate a parent must be to even consider selling their own flesh and blood.
There is no mention of rape in the articles I have read, but let's be honest - it can/will happen.
I am desperately sad for these children and I wish I could help in some way.
Afghanistan is now effectively excommunicated from the rest of the world, the 'leaders' will not embrace help. These children are destined for a life of miserable servitude and probably much worse.
We can all make small changes to protect our planet but what the fuck can we do for these girls?

gloriousgordons · 02/11/2021 22:47

The climate conference is just virtue signally on a platform - two of the worlds largest polluters didn't even show up FFS.

As for little old England - our government have just agreed to a trade deal exporting NZ lamb whilst muting the idea of meat tax for UK farmers. The fucking mentality of that makes me think we are genuinely fucked for anything.

Bonsaibreaker · 02/11/2021 22:49

We are fucking sea lions.

We clap at the stuff that gets us likes but don't deal with the difficult stuff.

YABU

They aren't chatting about dolphins ffs, they are trying to save the human race from an abysmal future.

You are being absurd.
DrManhattan · 02/11/2021 22:51

Agree with you op.
Nothing will come of COP26 either.

If you're fucking a sea lion I think the people at COP would definitely want a word with you.

Why do you think world leaders need a conference to discuss the mess that Britain and the US (and Russia) made of Afghanistan?
namechangeobvs1988 · 02/11/2021 22:53

What on earth are you talking about? So we can't tackle climate change until we sort out every other problem in the world first?

DesdemonaDryEyes · 02/11/2021 22:55

Have you really so little knowledge of the history of Afghanistan that you think we can do anything to stop this?

In fairness it is a complex and difficult history, but the OP is being very naive regardless.
