The title says it all.

Yes it's in the fail and in my rage I cannot work out how to copy the link.

Please tell me I'm wrong and missread the story?

What on earth are you talking about? So we can't tackle climate change until we sort out every other problem in the world first?

Climate change is a first world problem.
The people that provide this world with its population are seen as second class citizens yet the next generations safety is oh so important. Maybe start with providing mothers with safety helthcare support is a good way to secure the next generation?

Climate change is a whole world problem. There is no-one, no country, no continent that will not suffer.
slashlover · 02/11/2021 23:01

Climate change is a first world problem.

Tell that to the island communities who are seeing the results first hand. I saw a video earlier this week where a town floods because their entire river is now just plastic.

Are mothers not universal?

If climate change is not reversed then every child, every mother, every father will be in trouble.

Yes, that's why they'll suffer from climate change too.

Which part aren't you getting? L

turnthebiglightoff · 02/11/2021 23:06

Child marriage and rape is a very, very important issue, OP.

You, however, have spectacularly missed the point and are coming across like a raving loon. That's not going to achieve anything. Calm down and step away from the gin.

PieMistee · 02/11/2021 23:07

Its such whataboutism.
The situation in Afghanistan is abhorrent and the rape and abuse of girls and women should be a much bigger priority than it is.
But climate change is also a huge issue that will adversely affected the poorest in the world the most, result in mass displacement, famine, drought, flooding all of which will lead to political and civil unrest. The worst affected will be women and children.

Porcupineintherough · 02/11/2021 23:09

Climate change is a first world problem

Climate change is killing people in the developing world right now. It will kill a lot more over the next few years and cause all sort of problems including those that mean small children are raped and abused by adults. It is a world wide problem that makes dealing with anything more difficult.

And you are raging more incontinently with every post.

Instead of raging incoherently on here pick a good cause close to your heart and dedicate yourself to getting in sorted. You cant save this child but there are plenty of others you can help. Improving maternal healthcare is important and, if you start in the UK, should be achievable. Good luck.

Bonsaibreaker · 02/11/2021 23:09

If climate change is not reversed then every child, every mother, every father will be in trouble.

I know this but given that it is women who birth each generation shouldn't we educate from its core?
If the world leaders can get together to fight against plastic for the next generation why can they not get together for the 50% of the population that birth then next generation?

A man invented plastic Leo Baekeland and now its destroying the world.

Everybody can’t talk about everything all the time. Different issues need to be discussed at different times, otherwise it just all becomes redundant.

Why are we taking about 9 year old girls being sold to men instead of what’s happening in North Korea?

Why are we talking about North Korea instead of what’s happening in Myanmar?

Why are we talking about Myanmar instead of the statistics on domestic abuse?

Why are we talking about domestic abuse instead of how many children are killed by their own family, such as Arthur Labinjo-Hughes?

And what does any of this matter if progress in these areas isn’t going to last many more generations because the planet we’re living on is dying?

“Climate change is a first world problem”

Your fury is justified, of course it is.

Unfortunately, climate change is the exact opposite of a first world problem. The first world will likely be the last place to feel it’s devastating effects.

The little girls on whose behalf you are incandescent will, unfortunately, likely be the first to feel those effects. So, in addition to the suffering they are subject to simply because of their sex, they are also facing drought, famine, fires, flood and all that those bring.

There isn’t a great deal that foreign governments can do to intercede in respect of under-age marriage. That is entirely the remit of backward regimes.

Mybalconyiscracking · 02/11/2021 23:12

Well if we don’t sort climate change there will be lot less abuse of all sorts in the world, because there will be a lot less people in the world.

insatiableme · 02/11/2021 23:13

In 2021 how the hell is this happening in the world, poor children!

Bonsaibreaker · 02/11/2021 23:14

Typical mumsnet.

You are a loon.
You are crazy.
Stop worrying about child sex abuse plastic is killing everyone.

My point is child sex abuse is rife a pandemic in every country. Yet world leaders cannot get-together to stamp it out.
Instead they chose something that will not directly affect their time in office.

While I agree climate change is important does that mean we ignore the here and now?

You might have done better if you started another thread. Of course child sexual abuse is absolutely horrific, but there’s no use in comparing it with other issues. Nobody is saying ignore it, it isn’t important.

Maybe you should have started a thread saying ‘look at this what can we do about it/how can we help’ rather than somehow blaming it on environmental concerns.

Truthseeker456 · 02/11/2021 23:16

I completely agree with you. Its sickening. Nothing is happening following the disaster withdrawal. It is all smoke and mirrors . Makes me sick.

Skinnymimi · 02/11/2021 23:16

OP I agree with you. I do not remotely care about climate change but I believe that each child bride is victim of a crime against humanity.

Sorry did I miss the world summit for girls being raped and murdered?
What day was it when all the world leaders came to 1 country to discuss the 66,000 females killed globally?

I can't believe how much youve been ripped apart on here. I'm going to say this whether posters are pleased or vexed. If I had to swear under the Oath on the Holy Book I'd have to say "Very few posters seem to be going OTT with the anger about a 55 year old man married to a little girl"

My whole thread is about comparison.

I say child sex abuse is worse than climate change. Do you disagree?
