Currently sat drinking a bottle of red wine as its yummy..feeling guilty as I'm looking after my baby (6 months old) who's asleep in cot.. partner is also asleep but she's my responsibility tonight as he's in work early in the morn.... for added context, I'm a large lady so a bottle won't get me 'drunk' is this bad.. am i the only one who does this
...?

It's fine!

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 22/08/2021 21:55

No, it's fine. I would struggle in the morning though so it's very rare I drink when I have the kids alone the next day.

melj1213 · 22/08/2021 21:57

I drink because I have a child Grin

I don't tend to drink a lot mostly bc I can't deal with the two day hangover just in case of an emergency but occasionally it has never done any harm.

MaryShelley1818 · 22/08/2021 21:58

I have a 6mth old baby and bed share at least part of the night so definitely don't drink anything at all.

A glass I would say is fine....a bottle of wine...definitely not imo.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 22/08/2021 22:00

No I’d not drink a bottle of wine if in charge of a child.

Kittii · 22/08/2021 22:00

I think it's fine to drink but it's worrying that you're drinking a whole bottle by yourself. Do you do that regularly? That's 10 units and NHS guidelines are 14 units spread over the week for women.

PumpkinKlNG · 22/08/2021 22:01

I didn’t drink when my were that young but that’s because I was breastfeeding and cosleeping but yes with older children.

Wolfiefan · 22/08/2021 22:02

A glass is fine. A bottle is a binge. It’s not just your size but you’ve built up an unhealthy tolerance.

Peace43 · 22/08/2021 22:02

I make margaritas but my DD is 10 and I deserve strong liquor Grin.

I had the odd glass of wine when she was a baby but she slept so badly that any sort of a hangover was too painful to contemplate!

Blueeilidh · 22/08/2021 22:02

I wouldn't drink a full bottle of wine if I had to care for a 6 month old but might have a glass or two.

whatthehelldowecare · 22/08/2021 22:03

Your partner is asleep but assumably could wake up and deal with any emergency in the very unlikely event anything happened, so all fine IMO. Enjoy your wine OP Wine

CasaBonita · 22/08/2021 22:05

I don't remember drinking when mine was really young, probably because I was so sleep deprived it would have been like a tranquilliser!

However now I have a drink most nights, but he's 6!

Livpool · 22/08/2021 22:05

DS is the cause of some of my alcohol intake 😂

cookiecreampie · 22/08/2021 22:05

Yes I drink a bottle of wine now and again when the kids are in bed. I never did it when they were babies and likely to wake up and need me. I'd just have one glass. And I won't drink if any of them are ill.

SlipSlop · 22/08/2021 22:05

Are you an alcoholic OP?

EarringsandLipstick · 22/08/2021 22:05

I think a full bottle is too much.

However, I need to also say that I am a lightweight, and can barely manage a glass of wine (much as I love it) without it affecting me.

I guess also I'd br concerned about the units you are consuming in a bottle; and again, personally, I would not be safe to look after a 6 mo baby after that much wine.

Petseagull · 22/08/2021 22:06

Doesn’t sound like a great idea really. It may not get you “drunk” but you’d definitely be over the driving limit. I know your partner is home, but it still doesn’t seem wise. A glass or two maybe but a bottle seems too much.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 22/08/2021 22:06

Nope not with a young baby- if they likely wake in the night are you more like to fall asleep, drop them, not hear them etc

JaneTheVirgin · 22/08/2021 22:06

A bottle? Is ridiculous - you absolutely should not be looking after your baby after that! A glass is fine.

lifehappened · 22/08/2021 22:07

Yep I would defo have a few when my kids asleep. Not to get wasted but I know my limits. Obvs the Mumsnet mafia won't agree but just bloody enjoy yourself

Newbabynewhouse · 22/08/2021 22:07

Eek.. well yes I probably have an unhealthy intolerance to be fair.. but like I said I'm big! .. I'm talking 18 stone big.. so a bottle gets me tipsy.. just sat here wondering if other mums do this... ConfusedBlush

@SlipSlop

Are you an alcoholic OP?
Drinking a bottle of wine does not make you an alcoholic Hmm
lifehappened · 22/08/2021 22:09

Yes other mums do this. Some don't, and they'll judge but fuck them, you know you wouldn't let your kid be in danger. Some prudes on here get smashed from a thimble of Sherry so you don't have to feel judged by them

Cruiser123 · 22/08/2021 22:09

I wouldn't. I have a 1 year old and I never drink when I'm looking after him. I especially wouldn't do it with a younger child, I don't think sleep deprivation and alcohol is a good combo.
