Currently sat drinking a bottle of red wine as its yummy..feeling guilty as I'm looking after my baby (6 months old) who's asleep in cot.. partner is also asleep but she's my responsibility tonight as he's in work early in the morn.... for added context, I'm a large lady so a bottle won't get me 'drunk' is this bad.. am i the only one who does this
...?

@Stevearnottsbeard My DP brought me prosecco to the hospital after my c-section 🤣

bellsbuss · 22/08/2021 22:47

The first drink I've had once home from giving birth has always been an alcoholic one Blush with my last baby I barely had one foot through the door before demanding DP to pour me a large one.

namesnamesnamesnames · 22/08/2021 22:47

Nope. A drive to the hospital can't have a drunk driver so when alone, I don't. With my husband at home, sure. I'll have 1-3 glasses on an occasional weekend.

CornishGem1975 · 22/08/2021 22:47

A bottle of red wine certainly doesn't get me pissed. It might do if I drank it over 20 minutes but nobody does that. Over the course of a couple of hours? I don't even feel tipsy. I mean, I would drive (I don't drive even after a small glass) but I'm definitely not drunk.

Mammyloveswine · 22/08/2021 22:47

@Stevearnottsbeard

Pretty much all of you would hate me... On our way home from hospital, the day after I gave birth to our youngest, we went to a mcdonalds drive through and picked up a bottle of wine!! 😂 😂 😂
Omg I did exactly this with my second... 👀

Was the best bloody glass of wine I'd ever I had ! (I did just have the one!)

McDonalds drive thru sells wine?
EmeraldShamrock · 22/08/2021 22:48

I definitely wouldn't take her into the bed for cuddles if I had a drink.
Your DH is there if you had an emergency though it wouldn't look great if something happened and you were drinking ATT.

@SlipSlop

Are you an alcoholic OP?
Ffs Hmm
cadburyegg · 22/08/2021 22:51

I think a bottle is too much. Whatever would take you over the drink driving limit is too much IMO regardless of whether you actually drive or not. What if there was an emergency and baby needed medical attention, etc etc. I'm a single parent and I only ever have one or maximum two when I'm "on duty". Anything else waits until I have a child free night. We are on holiday atm and I'm shocked at the amount of parents I've seen drinking large quantities of alcohol whilst being in charge of small kids.

RubyFowler · 22/08/2021 22:51

Personally I wouldn't have more than one or two because it would get me drunk, not tipsy.
Not too bothered about the driving to hospital thing, because I don't actually even have a car at the moment!!
Taxi or ambulance would have to do.

Newbabynewhouse · 22/08/2021 22:53

Honesty if a whole bottle of red doesn’t make you feel “tipsy” if you drink it over w couple of hours? That just means you’ve built up a tolerance.
It’s still a binge.

Newbabynewhouse · 22/08/2021 22:54

Anyway.. done now! The bottle has gone! Going to have a few munchies and go to bed Grin xxx thanks guys xx

Aspire to be in a fit state to care for your tiny baby.

She is in a fit state to care for her baby.

Boatonthehorizon · 22/08/2021 22:55

If youre too drunk to drive, or to mumsnet...youre too drunk to look after a baby!

Wolfiefan · 22/08/2021 22:56

If you have such a tolerance that you can sink a bottle of red and still be ok to look after a baby then you have issues with alcohol.

RandomUsernameHere · 22/08/2021 22:57

Lots of posters saying you need to be able to drive in case of an emergency, should people who can't drive or don't own a car not be allowed to have children then?

Night op! Please update in the morning to remind everyone you have not had a mega emergency and you feel fine!
Muddydoor · 22/08/2021 23:01

How does the bottle being £6 make it any better? You say you’re not a lush, but you have spent the whole thread justifying your drinking and telling people sprint body is so used to alcohol it doesn’t get affected.

Aa is on 0800 9177 650. Its up to you if and when you want to ask for help.

BeeandG · 22/08/2021 23:05

I would have had one glass with a baby that age as know I would have been up in the night. I barely drink alcohol at all now and I much prefer the clearer head. I always want to feel like I could be in control if there was an emergency

Newbabynewhouse · 22/08/2021 23:05

@Boatonthehorizon

Well not too drunk to mumsnet so must be fine!... also I reckon i could still drive a car if need be! Possibly not legally but I could do it! Anyway have the husband
... night all xxx

ODFOD muddydoor she does not need AA. Her husband is upstairs and this is an occasional thing. And that particular wine is very delicious. Give over.

That’s a LOT more concerning as regards your parenting/judgement tbh.

Newbabynewhouse · 22/08/2021 23:11

@muddydoor

Thank you.. but no, I have spent the whole thread saying how fat I am.. not that I am tolerant, but that I am fat..

Your spelling doesn't do you must justice really, do you need that number?

The fact it was £6 was a private comment to a poster who said they only buy the wine that I bought when it was on offer for £6... mine was on offer also for £6 so thought it was relevant... I am honestly fine.. but thank you anyway!! Grin
