Have you had period oddness since the COVID vaccine?

If you have any kind of changes with your periods following the vaccine, could you take a few minutes to report them (via the admittedly slightly clunky NHS Yellow Card system).

I'm 51 and following my AZ vaccine, had my first bleed in 2 years after menopause.
(And it was pretty horrendous).

If you've experienced any changes to your periods following your vaccine, would you consider reporting?

Many women put up with so much as 'just one of those things' - it would be really helpful to get the true picture.

Thank you.

Done, a week late and raging PMT. Never this late, had Pfizer 3 weeks ago.

I'm so glad I found a thread on this earlier today. It explained a lot!

IvyTwines2 · 23/06/2021 20:44

Same as you OP, four days after the second AZ jab, first in two years, not heavy but lasted three days with abdominal pain, and I've reported it.

CoopsMalloops · 23/06/2021 20:45

My friend bled 14 years after menopause. Got an appointment with a gynaecologist but that was 12 days after 1st jab.

LilacSorbet · 23/06/2021 20:47

I yellow carded at the weekend - would never have known to if not for Mumsnet.

Started a full week early this month, stopped for a couple of days, and it's just started again Hmm

I’m 28 and had AstraZeneca 1st dose March 17th, I was 16 days late, my next cycle was 6 days late.
My periods have been incredibly light since. But I get a weird pain in my leg.

I don’t know what’s going on.

I’m fully vaccinated now.

DontDrinkDontSmokeWhatDoIDo · 23/06/2021 21:14

Thanks all.

I must also say that obviously, it's still very important to get any irregular bleeding checked out - especially crucial if post-menopausal - but also important to report effects.

I'm not really one for 'if men had', etc, but I think this deserves a 'if men had eg crippling cramps after the vaccine, you can bet it would be stated' type comment.

If you are normally regular, @LibbyL92 , it's definitely important to report menstrual abnormalities.

I have reported.

First period after 2nd Pfizer jab was on time but was horrific and lasted a full 7 days, when it normally lasts three. I was leaking through a super plus tampon and a bedtime pad every hour at one point with clots at least 1.5 inches in diameter with really bad cramping. My period has just started again two weeks after finishing and is horrific again.

I cannot believe that no one reported this in the trials or did they just not ask?

ConstanceGracy · 23/06/2021 21:26

No I’ve been fine but I had Moderna

Bells3032 · 23/06/2021 21:27

Thought I had a really light one after my second pfizer....turned out I was pregnant

hennybeans · 23/06/2021 21:31

I've yellow carded my symptoms today.

I've started my period in the middle of my cycle, day 11, just 4 days after my second AZ jab. Never once have I experienced mid cycle bleeding before.

I have only heard about these issues on MN. Would never have known about others' experiences and reporting if I wasn't on here.

Gentleness · 23/06/2021 21:39

I reported to yellow card. Had my second Pfizer jab a couple of days before my period was due (all the signs were there and I've been like clockwork since drifting into perimenopause). The period didn't happen but came right on time the next cycle and was a terror. The fatigue was comical, the bleeding so, so heavy and I cried at NCIS.

I would love to understand the mechanics. Did my womb lining just stay there all month then get double thick during the luteal phase? Where did the blood come from for women bleeding midcycle?

Badabingbadabum · 23/06/2021 21:39

I reported mine. I had the pfizer, I have a coil fitted so my 'period' is pretty regular. I had much worse stomach cramps and my bleed was a few days earlier, longer and slightly heavier.

Gentleness · 23/06/2021 21:42

I didn't think about what the next period might be like! It is due next week when we are supposed to be on holiday if I can find anywhere in the UK that costs less than a small car. Now I am worried...

HelenHywater · 23/06/2021 21:44

Oh gosh. I missed a period after both doses (pfizer) - first time ever. Assumed I was heading into perimenopause as I was 50. Have had periods as normal since.

HelenHywater · 23/06/2021 21:45

and like @Gentleness the fatigue was horrendous until the missing period arrived (in all its gushing horror).

PurpleyBlue · 23/06/2021 21:45

I guess it's harder to link directly to vaccine as it can take a whole month for the issue to appear? But I'd like to know if there's any data on how many people reported issues during trials.

TheFairyCaravan · 23/06/2021 21:46

I’ve reported mine. I’m 50 and has a heavy bleed after my first one. I bled slightly after the second. I had really painful cramps both times.

I had the Astra Zeneca

LadyBugg · 23/06/2021 21:46

I was expecting changes after reading about this on here, but I've had no change at all. Arrived as expected, but I did have Moderna.

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 23/06/2021 21:47

Gosh this is interesting as i had the Pfizer in January then had one period on top of the other, this has never ever happened before and it was really heavy. I am 44 and thought it was either cancer or peri-menopause. I was so worried I saw a private Gynae consultant (I had been having back pain too, being a nurse I get paranoid about any abnormal symptoms). I had recently had a steroid injection in my hip too mid December and he said it could affect my cycles. Never did it cross my mind it could be the jab....I have my delayed second dose of Friday so i will see if the same happens. My cylcle went back to normal the next month!

userchange8945 · 23/06/2021 21:48

Oh how strange I'm experiencing fatigue whilst I wait for my very delayed period, just not something I experience unless obvious sleeping issues of which I have none atm, sleeping as normal, according to app.

SassenachWitch · 23/06/2021 21:49

I’m on Cerazette and hadn’t had a period for 4 years, 10 days after my first vaccine (Pfizer) my period came with a vengeance and lasted 11 days!
