Have you had period oddness since the COVID vaccine?

DontDrinkDontSmokeWhatDoIDo · 23/06/2021 20:13

If you have any kind of changes with your periods following the vaccine, could you take a few minutes to report them (via the admittedly slightly clunky NHS Yellow Card system).

I'm 51 and following my AZ vaccine, had my first bleed in 2 years after menopause.
(And it was pretty horrendous).

If you've experienced any changes to your periods following your vaccine, would you consider reporting?

Many women put up with so much as 'just one of those things' - it would be really helpful to get the true picture.

Thank you.

@SassenachWitch

I’m on Cerazette and hadn’t had a period for 4 years, 10 days after my first vaccine (Pfizer) my period came with a vengeance and lasted 11 days!
Woah! You poor thing!
Blankspace4 · 23/06/2021 21:50

I’ve just posted a thread on here about my period being unexpectedly 5 days late with no signs it’s going to start, when I’m usually like clockwork. I had my 2nd vaccine a month ago (AZ) so now I’m thinking there could be a link! Worrying. Don’t like it when unexplained things happen to my body.

Will report now via link

Myglueattack · 23/06/2021 21:50

Thanks for the link, I 'm going to report.

I had pfizer. Spotting for a few days, then stopped for a week, bled for another full 2 weeks (lighter than normal), now i'm actually due on (5 week cycle) and wondering what will happen?

My friends have been ok, but they had moderna.

RealHousewifeOfEastLondon · 23/06/2021 21:51

Since having AZ in early April my periods have been very heavy. Not painful but to the point where I am soaking through pads, I can't use tampons and can feel the blood flowing out of me. Also experiencing a shorter cycle, always been 33 days (even after pregnancies) now 28.

RealHousewifeOfEastLondon · 23/06/2021 21:51

And lasting 7 days instead of 4 😫

Purplesunflowers · 23/06/2021 21:52

I had AstraZeneca - no menstrual issues after 1st dose, but after 2nd dose on my next period (about 1week later) had crippling cramps reminiscent of contractions to the point where I thought I was going to pass out at work (usually only get mild period pains). Didn’t connect it to vaccine until I read that others had experienced this. Periods have been normal since.

longtompot · 23/06/2021 21:57

I reported mine a few weeks ago. I had az and a few days afterwards I started bleeding, despite having a period the week before. I then bled for well over a month, very lightly apart from a day a week which I flooded spectacularly. I have really heavy periods anyway, so thought it was yet another trick my body was playing, but then read several threads on here about it and realised all was not right. I'm having my second tomorrow so am braced for the next few weeks of 'fun'

LadyCatStark · 23/06/2021 21:59

Mine started a week early after my first dose and this one after my second seems lighter but that’s no bad thing.

SmokeyDevil · 23/06/2021 22:01

Thanks to my implant I won't notice any oddness as its odd every bloody time! But if I notice anything worse than usual I'll report it.

Batshitkerazy · 23/06/2021 22:02

I had my first Pfizer around ovulation, and period came 5 days early

uneazy · 23/06/2021 22:04

Done. 25 days late for my period!! Always regular normally.

DontDrinkDontSmokeWhatDoIDo · 23/06/2021 22:05

It's so frustrating isn't it - I know not everyone has had issues, but MANY of us have.

I had the most horrendous clots and flooding after by first jab, to the point the Bath water turned red 🤢

Sonographer laughed when I mentioned 'could it be related to the vaccine?' 😡

I also have had strange occurrences with this and have reported to our health authorities in Ireland

Tatum1234 · 23/06/2021 22:09

I’ve been fine, had AZ.

userchange8945 · 23/06/2021 22:09

This is what I think is important to, for those of us still regularly having cycles, at what point in the cycle were you jabbed and what were your symptoms?

I was jabbed pre ovulation, possibly right at the tail end of a period actually, I'm now a week late. I wish I could remember if I had ovulation symptoms as I usually do, but cant really remember this month.

grafittiartist · 23/06/2021 22:11

AZ, two weeks early after jab.

WithASpider · 23/06/2021 22:12

I've yellow carded mine now. Had my 1st jab in Jan (Pfizer). Period arrived on time but was 10 days instead of 5 and very light. Following one was 38 days instead of 34.

2nd jab done end of march - next period bang on time, following one was 5 days early!

I'm 41 and under investigation for other Gynae issues so I wasn't sure if it was related.

PandemicPalava · 23/06/2021 22:12

I have completed the yellow card as my period was early and very clotty. I passed one which filled my menstrual cup. My second period post jab has not returned to normal. Not as clot filled as last month but very painful and lots of smaller clots. Very odd and worrying

DontDrinkDontSmokeWhatDoIDo · 23/06/2021 22:17

Thanks all, looks like maybe 10 or more reports on this post 👍

Please do share info with your relevant friends & family too.

31 - had Az. First I was 13 days late, second 6 days late. Heavier and longer than normal. Had a clear smear test in March so nurse not worried. Nurse was adamant it wasn’t to do with the vaccine as ‘nothing in it to effect your circle’ - but my cousin who is a GP has had quite a few cases reported to her. She just told me to monitor over the next three months after the second dose.

Alwaysconfuddled · 23/06/2021 22:18

I’ve just yellow carded, wouldn’t known to have done it. I completely missed my period which had never happened before

Gingerkittykat · 23/06/2021 22:18

After the first dose my period was delayed by a fortnight which is odd as I'm normally really regular.

I started bleeding heavily the day after my 2nd dose which was about 10 days early.

When the vaccination asked about any side effects from first dose I mentioned the period stuff and she said she had never heard of it before.

I've since sent a yellow card report.

Check out this thread too.
I had AZ on 3rd May. Started my period on 20th May. I am on day 35 of constant bleeding since! I have yellow carded.

userchange8945 · 23/06/2021 22:19

@Whysotired from the reading I've done it could be because our immune system is everywhere and our womb lining can be affected due to the cells. I mean, if feeling stressed can affect a cycle, it makes sense something that manipulates your immune system could.

Bawdrip · 23/06/2021 22:21

Pfizer. Only had one jab. Period came 2 says after the vaccination and was 5 days early. Currently 5 days late for my next period. Hugely disappointed as I thought i was pregnant. Someone's making a killing on pregnancy tests this year....
