Have you had period oddness since the COVID vaccine?

If you have any kind of changes with your periods following the vaccine, could you take a few minutes to report them (via the admittedly slightly clunky NHS Yellow Card system).

I'm 51 and following my AZ vaccine, had my first bleed in 2 years after menopause.
(And it was pretty horrendous).

If you've experienced any changes to your periods following your vaccine, would you consider reporting?

Many women put up with so much as 'just one of those things' - it would be really helpful to get the true picture.

Thank you.

@Saoirse82

Any post-menopausal bleed MUST be checked out. There is a 'within 2 weeks' protocol - if she makes an appointment with her GP she will be referred for a consultation very quickly.

It most likely is nothing to worry about and very possible vaccine related but MUST be checked out.

@DontDrinkDontSmokeWhatDoIDo thank you Thanks I feel very downhearted after eight months of mirena success...

Blankspace4 · 24/06/2021 21:26

So uncomfortable right now. My body just isn’t designed for 36 day plus (as no sign) cycles. I feel so heavy, crampy, irritable and tearful. I am so angry that the vaccine may have caused this, especially as there are so many sources fobbing us off. I’ve had regular periods for the best part of 20 years.

Blueberriesonmyshreddies · 24/06/2021 21:51

In my fifties and three years post menopause, period just stopped then with no spotting since.

No problems with the first AZ vaccination, just fatigue and flu like symptoms for 24 hours.

Had the second at the beginning of June and no side effects whatsoever. Now three weeks later and I am bleeding. I have that dragging period pain and have that menstruation tiredness/weakness.

I will contact the GP in the morning. Hoping it is due to the vaccine as I am so worried it could be something else.

DontDrinkDontSmokeWhatDoIDo · 24/06/2021 22:00

@Blueberriesonmyshreddies - exactly the right thing to contact GP.

I know the worry, I was the same, along with the same dragging feeling.

All was fine and no issues (apart from massive unexplained bleed 2 years after menopause) but like you, the worries were there.

@NeverDropYourMoonCup - not sure I get your post - are you saying that I misremember my last period being Feb 19 before the Covid vaccine, and many of the other women on this thread have imagined passing large clots?

No idea what the rest of your post is about so I'll ignore that!!

@MrsBobBlackadder

This is interesting - I've had the mirena coil for eight months. It was going really well, just a bit of spotting but my previously extremely heavy periods were nowhere to be seen.

I had my second AZ dose at the start of June - yesterday morning I woke up to gushing bleeding and the coil has fallen out 😩 will definitely report. Feeling super sorry for myself today 😟

Had a coil over a year. Had first jab and then about five weeks later very heavy period. Felt like someone was pulling my kidneys out.

Anyway, the coil had came out.

MrsBobBlackadder · 24/06/2021 22:12

@Dwrcegin sorry to hear this has happened to you too. I'm so upset and frustrated by it 😩

Laiste · 24/06/2021 22:16

I'm a 30 day cycle'er. Usually regular as clockwork.

After first vaccine i missed the next period completely. Cycle length that 'month' was 59 days!

After second vaccine (3 months later) i came on 2 weeks early! So cycle length that 'month' was 15 days Shock

(Which means if i come on 30 days later it'll be right in the middle of our flipping holiday Angry)

airforsharon · 24/06/2021 22:19

Not periods, as i haven't had a period for a couple of years (I'm 52). BUT i've had a nasty flare up of what feels like the endometriosis pain i used to have, proper knock me off my feet pain. It started about 2 weeks after my 2nd AZ jab. Almost a week later it's pretty much gone bar a mild tenderness, and i still feel a bit sick/no appetite.

I had no clue there was a possible link with the vac & menstrual problems until i saw a newspaper article, a couple of days after i started feeling unwell. In my case it does seem more than a coincidence.

CatherineCawood · 24/06/2021 22:20

Had AZ both jabs. Had a 3 week long period with pain every day for 3 weeks. I've had ablation so usually don't bleed much or for long. This 3 weeker wasn't heavy but was painful on and off.

3 weeks! Is this after the second jab?
CoopsMalloops · 24/06/2021 22:27

@LibbyL92

I’m 28 and had AstraZeneca 1st dose March 17th, I was 16 days late, my next cycle was 6 days late. My periods have been incredibly light since. But I get a weird pain in my leg.

I don’t know what’s going on.

I’m fully vaccinated now.

How is the pain in your leg now? Please keep an eye on that, can be signs of clotting.
EllaPaella · 24/06/2021 22:29

I missed three periods after my second pfizer shot. Had bloods done which didn't show any sign of menopause (i'm 42 and never missed a period before). They have returned to normal now but I did report it via yellow card.

tttigress · 24/06/2021 22:33

Can I suggest everyone reports via the Yellow Card? I felt absolutely awful for days after 2nd Pfizer (way beyond fatigue), discussed it with my doctor (not UK), basically they didn't seem that interested.

Em8725 · 24/06/2021 22:39

After my first vaccine (AZ) I had a one day period when it was supposed to be, then waited 69 days for the next one! I am usually a 28 day cycle with 7 day period person as I’m on the pill. Never ever ever have I been late before unless I’ve been pregnant. I’ve just had my second jab and am due in 2 weeks so we’ll see how that goes!

I had heard rumours of the jab affecting periods so I asked the nurse giving my second dose. She said “nope, absolutely not I’ve not heard of it”

CatherineCawood · 24/06/2021 22:49

It started 7 weeks after first jab, so was 2 weeks before 2nd jab and one week after. Its still slightly there but think its trailing off now. Finally!

Roonerspismed · 24/06/2021 22:52

That’s strange as the nurse I spoke to also said she didn’t know of a connection. I’m like “really?!?!”

DontDrinkDontSmokeWhatDoIDo · 25/06/2021 05:57

The sonographer who did my ultrasound scan that I had to have after my bleed laughed when I suggested an vaccine link.

You know, i think this dogmatic determination not to entertain even the slightest validation of concerns is tipping people who might have been on the fence into refusal.
Blankspace4 · 25/06/2021 08:00

@Laiste absolutely!!

What more do we need to do to get this properly heard and acknowledged? They’re shushing it up I know as they worry young women then won’t come forward for it.

Groovee · 25/06/2021 08:01

For the first time ever no issues with regards to my cycle. Acupuncture and various other treatments have messed me up in the past.

lovelybitofsquirrell · 25/06/2021 08:14

There are many threads on this. I'm not complaining op, just pointing out it is a real issue which is affecting many.

I'm ttc and tracking ovulation. It has stopped my ovulation date so I assume my period will be delayed.

Jimgem39 · 25/06/2021 09:27

I had my Pfizer in May (6 days before ovulation was due) I am not 2 weeks late for my period. I have had some quite bad pains and thought my period was on its way but they have gone now.
My period is usually like clockwork. We have been TTC for 9 years with no luck so you can imagine what this has done to me.
I am thinking about not having my 2nd Jab
