Have you had period oddness since the COVID vaccine?

If you have any kind of changes with your periods following the vaccine, could you take a few minutes to report them (via the admittedly slightly clunky NHS Yellow Card system).

I'm 51 and following my AZ vaccine, had my first bleed in 2 years after menopause.
(And it was pretty horrendous).

If you've experienced any changes to your periods following your vaccine, would you consider reporting?

Many women put up with so much as 'just one of those things' - it would be really helpful to get the true picture.

Thank you.

@bawdrip I know the feeling. I had dizziness and headaches the week after ovulation (1 week after 1st jab) then got spotting on CD21 which made me convinced it was implantation bleeding and that I was pregnant. But I got a BFN and after researching I've now learned the Pfizer jab likely caused all those symptoms. So unfair and disappointing 😞 Glad we have forums like this to spread awareness and console each other.

Lockeddownagain · 01/08/2021 16:54

It delayed my ovualtion by 26days. It's never late.

MrsToothyBitch · 01/08/2021 18:28

I had Pfizer 1 on 31st May, about mid cycle, and my period was about 3 days early and for me quite light but lasted normal duration. I had momentary cramp and one huge clot but that's it. I'm normally no more than a day early and I'm more likely to run a day or two late, and for it to be heavy, painful and clotty. Just had Pfizer 2 on Tuesday so will report back.

What scared me more were the hot flushes I had for a few days afterwards both times. I ran very, very hot so it seemed to me but my temp measured normal and to touch I was normal. Probably fever? But came and went like a hot flush. I also suddenly this week have vaginal dryness but I think that's from stress (work). I certainly hope so. We haven't got DC but want them. I would bw heartbroken if the jab - as unlikely as it probably is- has jeopardised that.

One of the scariest rumours, and I do emphasise it is only a rumour as there isn’t a cat in hell’s chance of finding any truths, is that the vaccines can affect fertility in both men and women. I know a couple of midwives who are very concerned about it and are advising family and friends of reproductive age to give it serious thought.

Benjispruce5 · 02/08/2021 15:57

It doesn’t affect fertility, it affects your horny and apparently that’s a normal part of your immune response. It’s temporary and can happen after hpv vaccine and the flu vaccine.

Benjispruce5 · 02/08/2021 15:57

Horny??? Lol no hormones!!!!!

Wannakisstheteacher · 02/08/2021 16:07

So glad I’ve seen this thread! 2 weeks after jab 2 I had the most horrendous period of my life. A very sleepless night when, at points, I was honestly sobbing in pain. Then much more painful than a normal period (but less than that first night) for 3 days. Never had anything like before.

Helendee · 02/08/2021 16:13

@Benjispruce5

I think it’s far too early to say yet whether or not it affects fertility but it’s still worrying that it’s causing hormonal problems.

Magnalux · 02/08/2021 16:44

Yes.. I’ve had a regular 26-28 day cycle all my life.. 25 years of periods.. after my second dose of moderna I had a 17 day cycle!! Never ever have I had a period this early.. if I had have been trying for a baby and tracking days etc my dates would have been way off!!

sounknown · 02/08/2021 16:46

Had both my AZ jabs..(I'm 24 but had the first before blood clotting guidance and was then advised to have the same again.. )
Had my 2nd one around 2 months ago, and currently 4 weeks late on my period. No sign of it at all but been having some abdominal pains. I have actually been TTC but definitely not pregnant, all tests are negative. Not sure what is going on!

Halfhitch · 02/08/2021 17:04

Not the vaccine (I've been pregnant for both shots so no periods at all here) but COVID itself did completely mess up my cycle. Lots of illnesses can do that, though, or in my case it may have been that when I was very ill with COVID my toddler didn't breastfeed as much as usual, so that hormonal difference may have been the culprit rather than COVID itself. I got pregnant with a healthy baby first cycle trying four months after contracting COVID though, so it doesn't seem to have had any long term effects.

Benjispruce5 · 02/08/2021 20:12

@Helendee that’s what a doctor said. It’s a known ‘thing’ as hormones are closely linked to the immune system. There has never been a permanent effect on periods or fertility with other vaccine disruptions. Good to report it though.

bleachblondemom · 02/08/2021 20:53

It made my period three whole weeks late!

Forevercurious · 02/08/2021 20:59

My period has been on time but has currently lasted for almost two weeks! It seemed to slow down and I thought it was stopping after 7 days but then started up again. I’m so over it now, it feels never ending, I never sleep when on, usual headaches etc but it’s just dragging on and on this time.

This is actually my second period since having the jab and I’m not sure if to go through with having the second one. I’m worried this is going to become a long term effect and also now worrying about fertility!

Witchesbelazy · 02/08/2021 21:05

I had my first March second in may periods still aren’t right

oreo2020 · 02/08/2021 21:09

Yes!! Covid vaccine totally messed up my cycle! From regular (28-30 days) to 40 then 21 !

Helendee · 02/08/2021 21:25

I just worry as this is a whole new entity with no background as yet, I guess time will tell.

HPLikecraft · 02/08/2021 21:35

I'm 52 and had been having a heavy period every 4 weeks until my first AZ in April. Since then, no periods just one tiny streak of blood. Didn't think much of it because at my age any period could be my last.
After seeing this thread though, I wonder if menopause has been sped up for me by the vaccine.

TokenGinger · 02/08/2021 22:36

@TokenGinger

I'm 31, had the Pfizer vaccine on 12th May then 2nd July and I haven't had a period since before the first vaccine. I'm starting to get a little worried now. I have logged it on the website, thank you, OP.
I'm just coming back to update that on 30th July, my period began, which was my first since before my first jab on 12th May.
Tunnocks34 · 10/08/2021 20:04

Yep - had the Pfizer on the 17th July (about 5 days before I was due on). I came on as normal, period seemed slightly lighter and shorter than usual. A week after my period ended, I came back on - spotting at first but now normal flow. I went to GP as I thought this was spotting (private and I have a scan tomorrow) but I think it’s actually another period. Hopefully tomorrow I should have my mind eased.

MacTootBlowsonHisBagpipes · 10/08/2021 21:23

2 doses of AZ. No issues at all.

RichTeaShite · 10/08/2021 21:38

Yes! I was a week early when I’m always dead on time normally, heavy and painful, weird stabbing pains in my legs.
My next one is due on Friday, the leg pains are back and my abdomen feels like it’s twisting itself in knots. It’s like labour pains, I’m dreading the actual period.

Magnalux · 10/08/2021 22:59

My 80 yr old Mil started bleeding a few weeks after hers.. was investigated for cancer..very invasive and distressing for her (as it would be for anyone) she is very frail.. it’s only when everything came back negative they put it down to a side effect of the covid jab!
