Have you had period oddness since the COVID vaccine?

If you have any kind of changes with your periods following the vaccine, could you take a few minutes to report them (via the admittedly slightly clunky NHS Yellow Card system).

I'm 51 and following my AZ vaccine, had my first bleed in 2 years after menopause.
(And it was pretty horrendous).

If you've experienced any changes to your periods following your vaccine, would you consider reporting?

Many women put up with so much as 'just one of those things' - it would be really helpful to get the true picture.

Thank you.

I had the Pfizer and my period was 5 days late. I’m normally very regular and felt heavy and with PMS symptoms for about a week before.

@Laiste

I completely agree.

A simple "hmmm... I haven't heard that, interesting" would have sufficed.

I had my first jab 2nd March, no problems at all. Second one was 19th May, just after my period had finished. I was due on on around the 13th May. Had some spotting, thought that was the start. Just spotting for a week. Then a flood in the night a week later (in my half asleep state I thought I'd wet myselfBlush) and then more spotting. Yesterday it was a bit heavier, today it's lighter again. So 2 weeks of spotting and bleeding.

But I'm 45 and have had a couple of long cycles, I had a 40 day one back in February before I'd had the jab. So it could be perimenopause. 🤷‍♀️

Yes exactly.

Sometimes all you need is someone to listen and nod, even if they haven't got the answers and put the ball politely back in your court. We'd probably still sit there and accept the vaccine! We're not idiots. We know there's always a slight risk of some sort with any vaccines and medicines. We make our choices based upon knowing that, accepting some uncertainty, and trying to do the right thing.

When someone totally dismisses your worries it makes you think there's something being hidden.

Wanttocry · 25/06/2021 12:22

You know, i think this dogmatic determination not to entertain even the slightest validation of concerns is tipping people who might have been on the fence into refusal.

I agree. If your aim is to get people who are on the fence to have the vaccine, reassuring them that if they have any issues they’ll be listened to and any issues that have been already reported are being looked into is the way to do it. Laughing, and basically saying “oh the silly women, they’re just stressed/misremembering/mistaken” (especially when talking about women who’ve not bled for years, I doubt that is mistake) is not the way go about it.

Of course there’ll be some people who, having heard about possible effects on their period, will either look back and misremember, or will go into their period thinking “this may be different to normal, I’ll be extra aware of any changes”. But plenty of people log cycle data on their phones, I do even when not ttc because it’s just easier to keep track, so if I suddenly had a cycle that was very different, it would be very clear.

Yes!! I'm glad I'm not the only one. I had the moderna vaccine on Thursday and was super nervous for it- have just came on my period this morning and it's the heaviest it has ever been! Even after I had my little boy! I'm bleeding through a tampon & maternity pad within an hour!! I reported it this morning

LaChatte · 26/06/2021 15:23

Just going to echo what I've already said, I have the same 'symptoms ' as others on this thread following having covid (pre-vaccination).

PurpleyBlue · 26/06/2021 15:28

Laiste I agree. I've only had my first Pfizer dose and was all for it but I'm now slightly hesitant about getting my second. I feel like they are just dismissing people by saying there's no link. They'd be better off saying they will investigate it even if it's just to rule it out.

Chailatteplease · 26/06/2021 15:35

@LilacSorbet

I yellow carded at the weekend - would never have known to if not for Mumsnet.

Started a full week early this month, stopped for a couple of days, and it's just started again Hmm

I had this too, 5 days earlier, on and off and awful PMS. Won’t be having booster.
VodkaMargarineAndExplodingCarr · 26/06/2021 15:49

I haven't had the vaccine yet and I was a bit dubious about how much they tested it in trials for SE, but this thread is really interesting. I do wonder if it is affecting womens menstrual cycles what happens when a woman is pregnant. It is obviously doing something to their hormones to make their cycles change. How did they test this on pregnant women?

blackheartsgirl · 26/06/2021 17:03

I yellow carded mine after my jabs back in January and March.

I had Pfizer and after my first jab I came 15 days early.
Second jab I skipped a period.

Never done that in my life

blackheartsgirl · 26/06/2021 17:05

Although I suspect that the so called experts will just say there's no evidence or link blah blah.

I fear its pointless

Picklypickles · 26/06/2021 17:42

I'm 39 and don't usually have periods at all because of the contraceptive implant, maybe a bit of light spotting once a year or something! I had my first jab in early March and the 2nd on the 19th May. I started a period about 9 days ago now, a proper and reasonably heavy period with some painful cramping in the first few days. I'm still bleeding and it's a bit lighter but not showing any sign of stopping yet. I don't really know if its because of the vaccine or not, maybe I was just long overdue a period and its all been storing up in there!

shivawn · 26/06/2021 17:46

Got pregnant right after having my Pfizer vaccine so I haven't had a period in the 6 months since! Grin

Dwrcegin · 02/07/2021 19:10

Had my second jab yesterday. I did mention ongoing issues and that I was hesitant to have the jab.
Nurse was irritated and said 'well the injection wouldn't make a coil come out!' then gave a large humf noise. Didn't tell me to seek medical advice or give any.

I came away irritated myself, they could just acknowledge there are some problems post jab.

Lockeddownagain · 03/07/2021 12:40

My at cycle was fine but my period is now 11days late and I'm never late. I'll report it

Tess457 · 25/07/2021 23:25

When I had the first AZ jab I was 65 days late for my period. My cycle is normally every 25 days like clockwork and lasts 3 days. When the period eventually came, it has been horrendous, really heavy bleeding and clots. I’ve been like this for 21 days with no sign of it stopping. I’m convinced it’s the covid jab that’s caused it as it’s too much of a coincidence. I’ve had blood tests and I’m still waiting for the results. The Doctor advised me not to get the second jab which is due now until they do more investigations. It’s been reported to yellow card.

Ask the doctor for a course of progesterone.
Benjispruce5 · 26/07/2021 21:49

Apparently it’s quite commonly. Saw a doctor on tv talking about it . It happens with other vaccines too and is to do with hormones being affected by the body’s immune response as they are closely linked. In all cases , normal service resumes within a couple of months.

Hilarias · 26/07/2021 22:09

No issues here with either AstraZeneca, even though I did have other bad fluey side effects and was completely floored both times.

Benjispruce5 · 26/07/2021 22:17

Yes I had no issues either with AZ.

Donnah85587 · 26/07/2021 22:26

@SassenachWitch

I’m on Cerazette and hadn’t had a period for 4 years, 10 days after my first vaccine (Pfizer) my period came with a vengeance and lasted 11 days!
Exact same as you, same pill aswell. Mine so heavy had to change pads every hour!
TokenGinger · 26/07/2021 22:28

I'm 31, had the Pfizer vaccine on 12th May then 2nd July and I haven't had a period since before the first vaccine. I'm starting to get a little worried now. I have logged it on the website, thank you, OP.

Blankspace4 · 26/07/2021 22:33

After my first AZ jab I had a very very heavy and painful period the month after having the jab.

Then went back to normal for the next

After my second jab I was around 12 days late which is unheard of for me. Period was normal.

Next has just started, 3 days late.

I do wish women’s concerns weren’t dismissed out of hand as is so often the case 🤬
