Have you had period oddness since the COVID vaccine?

DontDrinkDontSmokeWhatDoIDo · 23/06/2021 20:13

If you have any kind of changes with your periods following the vaccine, could you take a few minutes to report them (via the admittedly slightly clunky NHS Yellow Card system).

I'm 51 and following my AZ vaccine, had my first bleed in 2 years after menopause.
(And it was pretty horrendous).

If you've experienced any changes to your periods following your vaccine, would you consider reporting?

Many women put up with so much as 'just one of those things' - it would be really helpful to get the true picture.

Thank you.

Yep I had Pfizer in January and had problems every cycle since, initially much more painful than usual, then heavier and then later despite being on the OCP. I’m a HCP and no covid conspiracy warrior but all these reports is alarming. I spoke to my GP about it, she just rolled her eyes when I mentioned my concerns re: a link with the jab but I’ve pushed for more tests so currently awaiting a scan, blood tests were normal thankfully.

KenAddams · 23/06/2021 22:58

Iv had early bleed but light for 2 days still got the stabbing pain in rhs of my belly tho

nevernotstruggling · 23/06/2021 23:00

I had Pfizer. Periods arriving normally but couple of days after there's now a tiny mini bleed which is weird. I'm 42

Keepyourdistance000 · 23/06/2021 23:01

Mine have been more painful and heavier since my first AZ jab. Had my second jab a few days ago so will see if that further affects things.

Also noticed worse premenstrual fatigue since the first jab.

Aliceinunderland · 23/06/2021 23:05

Thank you, I thought something else was wrong with me but now realise it's probably the side effects of the vaccine! I have reported this evening.

Roonerspismed · 23/06/2021 23:06

My friend hasn’t yellow carded but has had two week periods on and off since her first jab- very heavy and flooding. Normally regular. SIL has had much longer cycles. My own sister has had missed cycles since hers.

No wonder this was missed in the trial. It would have been dismissed.

SeththeSloth · 23/06/2021 23:07

Had both AZ vaccines. My cycle is now 21 days rather than 28+. Wondered if I could be peri-menopause, but seeing everyone’s comments, perhaps not.

armadillo420 · 23/06/2021 23:07

omg @newusername2009 me too! (literally registered to reply to this)

my partner had the moderna vaccine and my period came a week early that month which never happens! I hadn't been jabbed yet

Bolshybun · 23/06/2021 23:07

I have had no periods on my pill for years, then within 7 days of both AZ vaccines I have bled. Also experienced vertigo at the same time as my period after my second dose. Still dizzy now 10 days later

Funfortheroad · 23/06/2021 23:10

Yes period was about 10 days early and terribly heavy and painful. Then since then they've been on time but horrendously painful (this is not normal for me). Last month was so bad I spent 2 days in bed even though I was on holiday at the time. I'm dreading the next one. Fucking AZ.

Thisismyname77463 · 23/06/2021 23:15

Yes it’s made mine come early and I felt really ill for a few days before it came. Like really off.

sparklesandmoresparkles · 23/06/2021 23:17

I ended up with a referral to gynaecology as I hadn’t put 2 and 2 together due to the gap between vaccine and period starting. I had 2 horrendous periods with massive clots, and the timing was all off as well, compared to normal. Luckily it was all clear, so I can only put it down to the vaccine, as that was the only other change.

Apparently there has been an expert gynaecologist recently saying it’s a coincidence Hmm Given a) the number of stories that are going about and b) the number of additional yellow card reports they’ll get now the word is out and people realise the timing of these changes, I hope they revisit that thinking.

Oh and mine also tanked my ferritin levels as well so I’ve reported that as well.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 23/06/2021 23:19

Same as you OP first bleed for well over a year on the night of the jab. Not heavy thank goodness, took me by surprise though.

TempsPerdu · 23/06/2021 23:22

Yes, after first AZ jab mine was 10 days late (unheard of for me as I usually have annoyingly short cycles) and super heavy and painful. Two completely normal, uneventful cycles in between, then after my 2nd jab period arrived on time but with absolutely horrendous cramps, fatigue, palpitations and shivering. By far the worst menstrual symptoms I’ve had since my teenage years.

Have reported via the yellow card system. Certainly won’t be rushing to take any vaccine top-ups of the AZ variety (although I understand that as it stands you can’t have more than two doses of AZ anyway).

AgileMadness · 23/06/2021 23:27

Another one here. I had AZ first dose on the 17th of May. I am now 17 days late for my period. I've always been on time.
It's quite worrying.
I have reported on the yellow card.
I really hope the authorities take this serious and at least investigate the root cause, rather than just fob us all off.

Easterbhunny · 23/06/2021 23:35

I reported mine via yellow card last week, I still have a pea sized lump under my skin 7 weeks in from AZ and have had 2 incredibly heavy periods.

Rae36 · 23/06/2021 23:36

I've been fine. I have the depo injection and haven't had periods in years. Maybe it also depends a bit on your contraception method?

Pandoracharm · 23/06/2021 23:42

Horrendous heavy bleeding within hours of having first astra jab, bled for eight weeks! Just had second jab starting heavy bleeding the next day. Have yellow carded it. Really bad stomach cramps (never normally have) extreme tiredness & brain fog & not sleeping im 50

Namechange600 · 23/06/2021 23:43

I have severe endometriosis and am on the pill to stop my periods. I had bleeding following the AZ jab as well as severe pain- also worsening of POTS which I also have. It was like an inflammatory response in my body. Just awful!

I reported my side effects which were severe but didn’t focus on the bleeding as the pain and pots was worse - may be I should add this bit.

RolyPolyBatFace · 23/06/2021 23:46

Reported last week.

Have had one jab. 1st may. Was due on on the 4th may - it arrived on the 23rd. Heavier, lasted longer

BoredOfThisShit · 23/06/2021 23:47

Theres afew threads like this and yes it is actually a side effect

Its been on the news

lotstolose1 · 23/06/2021 23:51

Mine was 10 days late after my jab, I had every pregnancy symptom going I was convinced I was PG.

ImTakingTheEssence · 23/06/2021 23:53

Yes I've had bleeding between periods. My cycle seems to be shorter. They seem to be more painful and more heavy. Ive flooded a few times when I've been out. So I'm having to wear a tampon and a pad.

ImitationofBeing · 23/06/2021 23:54

Had 2nd jab in April. 2 weeks later started my period after being peri-menopausal and no periods for 2 years. Since April a period every month.

Neverhot · 24/06/2021 00:01

I had first astrazeneca jab in Feb and missed my following period, the next one was 3 weeks late and then the next was 6 days late. I also had a very strange feeling of pins and needles and pain after second dose in right leg and right arm.
