To want a washing machine that does a wash in under 3 bloody hours

DuckyMcDuck · 01/12/2020 21:20

Our 8 1/2 year old washing machine has died and so searching for new one.

Obviously haven't bought one for a while and can't believe all the basic 40 degree washes are around 180-200 minutes. Our old one was 80 minutes.

We always buy Bosch but it seems they're all the same. Am I missing something here?

In your position I'd look at the cheaper machines and look at the manuals. Many still have quicker washes. Mine is 18 months old and has a 14/28/45/59 min wash as well as the longer ones, bit even they can be adapted and shortened if appropriate.

Legoandloldolls · 01/12/2020 22:00

We use the quick wash and then a extra spin if it's something like a PE kit emergency.

During the first lockdown my dd went into school in home clothes and got fixated on one outfit so washed it every night on a quick wash.

Only think is it's no good for stains as the wash is about 5 minutes and the rest is rinsing and spinning ( badly )

unlikelytobe · 01/12/2020 22:02

I am firmly of the opinion that the 'time saver' wash on my machine does nothing more than freshen things up, it's not really cleaning clothes or sheets well, removing stains etc so yes, a decent wash takes time.

Zanina · 01/12/2020 22:02

I have a beko that does 40 degree wash in 28 mins. £350 about 2 years ago. Quick wash is 30 degree for 14 mins

oneglassandpuzzled · 01/12/2020 22:03

We have a Siemens Extraklasse and it has plenty of quick cycles as well as eco ones.

KarlKennedysDurianFruit · 01/12/2020 22:03

We have a Candy for this reason, and because it has a large drum, previously had Bosch but have to say I'm actually impressed with the Candy. It has a 59 minute 'perfect' wash that I generally use for DSs toddler stained clothes and it's great, then the general mixed wash is 1hr 20 on 40 degrees at the lowest stain level, I've used the 30 mine was a fair bit when we've been to swimming lesson and I just want to bung everything in. Towels etc go on a 60 and that's a good 2.5 hours . There is a 15 minute speed wash but I've never used it. Plus all the usual delicates, hand wash, wool wash, the super long how filthy must your clothing be 3 hour extra wash and about a dozen others I rarely use.

Skigal86 · 01/12/2020 22:04

My Samsung’s daily wash is 1hr 15, it also has a small load 15 minute option too. It only does 20 or 40 degrees though which is really annoying.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 01/12/2020 22:08

Why does it have to be a bosch?

KitKatastrophe · 01/12/2020 22:11

We have a beko WMD 261W

This is a list of the programme times.
Use the time save for very lightly worn stuff e.g. baby PJs (28 min duration)
Mix 40 for normally soiled stuff e.g. jeans, underwear, adult tops (under 2 hrs)
Use the cotton programme for baby nappies and sanitary wear (2hrs duration)

Just embrace it OP. They're all like this for eco reasons. Put it on overnight.

This is the same as my beko
cantkeepawayforever · 01/12/2020 22:12

I would also say that many machines shorten the 'advertised' length of the cycle after sensing how dirty the washing is.

My basic JL machine has a 1:55 'Ecobut with quick wash button pressed once' cycle that is regularly automatically reduced to just over an hour.

FunnysInLaJardin · 01/12/2020 22:13

Just bought a LG and our quick wash is 39 minutes. Steam cotton wash is about 1.5 hours. When we bought I really had to check it did a proper quick wash having read horror stories on here about new machines!

How is running an appliance for 3 hours in any way "eco"???

I live in a semi and my washer is on the party wall... I wouldn't dream of putting it on overnight.
justicedanceson · 01/12/2020 22:16

I have a Bosch and it has a 30min quick cycle as well as a 1 hour cycle (and at a push can do 15mins Super quick but wouldn’t recommend if need more than freshening up).

Quillink · 01/12/2020 22:16

I also don't understand why longer is more eco friendly. Surely it wastes electricity?

keeprocking · 01/12/2020 22:16

Most machines now only take in cold water so need to heat it up first, when we were in Germany we had a cold fill only, at that time UK machines were hot/cold fill so it seemed odd.

Oxyiz · 01/12/2020 22:17

Yeah, we're in a tiny flat and couldn't put a washing machine overnight. Never mind the neighbours, it also fills the whole place with noise when its on. Dreading our old one dying now!

dinglethedragon · 01/12/2020 22:18

@helloxhristmas

Is that on an eco setting? My 40' daily wash is 1hr11mins in my Samsung.quick wash is 29 minutes. 8kg machine
I have a Samsung too, love it, and mine has a 15 min wash cycle!

you can reduce the time on the standard "daily" wash by reducing the number of rinses. I can do a standard wash, with two rinses, at 30 degrees in about an hour.

Bingowin · 01/12/2020 22:25

Samsung here. I use the quick wash/daily wash programme which is 1 hour. You can change temp/spin etc.

Cherrysoup · 01/12/2020 22:25

Bosch, there’s a function to halve the length of the programme, speed button, I think. I only ever use the hour one.

popshops · 01/12/2020 22:26

I can't remember what make ours is but it has a 15 minute cycle, it was

RightOnTheEdge · 01/12/2020 22:27

I bought this one a week ago and it's great so far. If you press the fast button it will do a normal wash in just over an hour or there's a quick wash that is 30 minutes. I do give it an extra 10 minute spin after the 30 minutes though if I have time as they come out quite wet.

For god’s sake, people, don’t put your washing machine on overnight! Think of your neighbours if you live in anything but a detached house. Plus there is always the small but real possibility that it will catch fire while you’re all asleep in your beds.
