To want a washing machine that does a wash in under 3 bloody hours

Our 8 1/2 year old washing machine has died and so searching for new one.

Obviously haven't bought one for a while and can't believe all the basic 40 degree washes are around 180-200 minutes. Our old one was 80 minutes.

We always buy Bosch but it seems they're all the same. Am I missing something here?

Ok, so it looks like it's an energy saving reason (although trying to get my head around how a 3 hour wash can use less energy than one taking half the time).

Our budget is max £400 so I think that probably excludes a lot of these (I do appreciate the suggestions though)

The agitation of shorter washes uses more energy to get the clothes clean according to my DH. The longer cycles soak the clothes to get them clean.

I’ve a Bosch Vario Perfect, bit old now but I’m very happy with it. Standard 40 degree wash 100 mins, eco perfect 40 degrees 108 mins, also has a 15 mins at 30, but often comes out a bit too wet, so needs spinning for another 13 mins but I often just turn it off after a bit. I think the 15 min wash is likely to be more expensive to run because of the extra agitation but I haven’t costed it on the smart meter.

Hi, OP - this one is a Which Best Buy, has great reviews, the Speed Perfect button for quicker washes, and is under £400: ao.com/product/waj28008gb-bosch-serie-2-washing-machine-white-73742-1.aspx?cmredirectionvalue=Bosch+Serie+2+WAJ28008GB

My Miele does a standard short programme at 40°c in 1 hour 39 minutes, BUT it has sensors, so this usually turns out to be much shorter as the wash isn't really dirty as such, so it adjusts the time accordingly. It also has a quick wash at 20 minutes and a hand wash programme at 39 minutes.
The only time the cycle is longer is if I happen to do something at 60°c (not very often). Standard time for that is something like 2 hours 29, but again this reduces if the items are not that dirty (goodness knows how it can tell).

i have a relatively new lg. the fast wash programme (60 mins) uses more than double the electric the eco setting (around 200 mins depending on load) does. it’s because the econ setting heats up the water slower and uses a “sit and soak” method rather than constantly moving the drum. this means it costs less and is kinder to clothes. i was disappointed at first looking at new machines with these longer cycles but i am a convert now.

My hotpoint has various wash times from 30 minutes to 3 1/2 hours.

We've got an aeg and all the cycles are so long! But there is a time save button you can select on all the cycles, you press it for however long you want shaved off the time, usually goes to about an hour and half off the original time so you can get it right down. Not sure if that uses more energy though?

Sounds like my AEG but mine is now 13 years old and I'm dreading it stopping working as I read about the new machines.
I quite often shave off minutes from the wash times and don't really want to have 3 hour washes.

I've got this Bosch - the 'mixed load' setting is 59 minutes. The energy saving washes are up to 2 1/2 hours long, but there are several shorter programmes.

We just got a new Bosch. As others have said, there are quicker wash options.

I thought it would be a problem but actually, if I put a normal wash on when I get up, it's ready for about 10am which is a good time to hang it out, in terms of outdoor temperatures. I can then get something like a jeans wash (lower temperature and quicker) on for when it is dry.

Maybe in Summer I'll use the delay start button and put washes in the night before so it's ready earlier.

My cheap as chips hotpoint machine has a log eco wash but also lots of shorter cycles including 30m and 60m fast washes. For every wash it has a preset temperature but you can turn that down and it reduces the time of the wash.

Hello everyone, before anyone one else adds to this we just wanted to let you know that this is a zombie thread - it was started in December 2020.
