To want a washing machine that does a wash in under 3 bloody hours

DuckyMcDuck · 01/12/2020 21:20

Our 8 1/2 year old washing machine has died and so searching for new one.

Obviously haven't bought one for a while and can't believe all the basic 40 degree washes are around 180-200 minutes. Our old one was 80 minutes.

We always buy Bosch but it seems they're all the same. Am I missing something here?

@unlikelytobe

I am firmly of the opinion that the 'time saver' wash on my machine does nothing more than freshen things up, it's not really cleaning clothes or sheets well, removing stains etc so yes, a decent wash takes time.
@DuckyMcDuck: re the above: this is true. Quick washes are designed to freshen clothes that have been sat in a wardrobe a while, not to actually clean. So ok now and then, but if that’s all you do, clothes will come out dirty ... or if stain free adult clothes will look clean but smell after a few weeks

Good luck in the search!

I have a Hoover 'Dynamic Next' which has a 59 min daily wash setting. Automatically sets at 60 degrees, but can be changed to 40 or 30.

baubling · 01/12/2020 23:02

All these low temperatures and eco wash programmes don't do clothes all that much good if you ask me. They used to slosh about in nice hot bubbly water for an hour or two and your clothes actually came out properly clean - now there's hardly any water in the machine and they slap about like they are being beaten on a rock for three hours instead.

Calmandmeasured1 · 01/12/2020 23:05

@jimmyhill

If they run for longer they can run slower and use colder water.
If you select the more eco-friendly wash and select the temperature you wish to wash at, the water will heat to that temperature. It will not wash at a colder temperature.

The reason why you save energy on an eco wash is because it uses less water for a longer time. Using less water means it costs less to heat it to the selected temperature.

Good luck.....
I have a hiencse ( no time saver my error), often wash at synthetics 60c just under a hr, and that is fairly dirty, I work in food!
Also a mixed 40c setting just under an hr.
Unless you are really mucky should be enough, these long settings are too long, ok for d’or and evening dushwasher tho.
Go with Bosch

Gooseygoosey12345 · 01/12/2020 23:10

My machine gives you the option to change all the settings manually (spin, temp etc) and does a quick wash in 30 mins on 30° or 40°, 60mins for a 60°
Embarrassingly I can't actually remember which machine I have Blush I look at the bloody thing enough it should be etched into my brain! Will check tomorrow!

TheVeryHungryTortoise · 01/12/2020 23:12

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought "eco" stood for economy rather than eco-friendly. The longer washes are cheaper to run because they heat the water more gradually. I was always cynical about companies genuinely changing something to help the environment. Someone please tell me I'm wrong

converseandjeans · 01/12/2020 23:13

I have this one from Miele. It's a bit more than your budget but has a 20 min wash & has been fine for probably 5-6 years. I bought if with AO.

San141 · 01/12/2020 23:17

112 minutes for a regular wash

supercatlady · 01/12/2020 23:19

Siemens here too- 20 min quick wash

Linnet · 01/12/2020 23:20

I have a Hoover washing machine. It has a 14, 30 & 44 minute wash. I often use the 30 minute wash, max temp is 40 degrees, if I only have a few things to wash. Then there is the 59 minute wash which is what I use for a normal load it does all temperatures I think. I usually only use 40 or 60. I’ve never used any of the other programmes as they all take too long.

Rinoachicken · 01/12/2020 23:22

I have a 10kg Bush that I bought for under £400 - it has a 15min, 60min +

timeforanewstart · 01/12/2020 23:22

I have a Hisense ( cheapesh make i guess ) normal 40 degree is 58 mins has quick wash 30 degree 15 min and 40 degree 30 miNs, shortest 60 is 1hr 15 , then has lots of other long cylces
Also has. 95 degree drum clean which I like
I have found it as good as my old bosch wether it lasts as long only time will tell

MrsClatterbuck · 01/12/2020 23:26

I have an AEG which is 11 years old so feel it's living on borrowed time. It also has the feature of reducing the wash time up to 2 times. It also has a timer which I used a lot when working. Clothes were just finished as I was getting up so ready to hang out on the line. I also use the timer when trying to remove a stain. I put Vanish on stain, put in the machine and then put timer on for half an hour before wash starts. I dread having to shop for a new machine as they have probably changed a lot in 11 years. I am tempted by a Siemens as my Siemens dishwasher lasted at least 19 years. We left it behind when moving house.

Thewinterofdiscontent · 01/12/2020 23:28

Exactly the same as you Op. My lady Bosch lasted 15 years and was amazing. Clean, fast and quiet.
I bought another Bosch and it’s somewhere between OK/ a bit shit.

It’s fucked he off from day one there’s only a fast wash which doesn’t actually clean, a 3 hour cotton wash that cleans but takes 3 hours or a “faster” version which does it 106mins but cleans only half as well.

timeforanewstart · 01/12/2020 23:29

I can't say ive noticed either my water bill or electric bill going up since having machine that does quicker washes compared to my old bosch that took ages

timeforanewstart · 01/12/2020 23:30

And on 58 min wash stuff comes out clean incl kids dirty football kits
I don't overload it though

Ericaequites · 01/12/2020 23:33

Speed Queen is not a quality brand anymore. I am an American who washes long lengths of cloth on hot because I sew. The local hard water also wears a machine out. I wanted a commercial grade machine, but went with LG instead of Speed Queen.
The top loader is much better than a front loader. The front loader smelled perpetually dank. The new machine stays fresh by running the tub clean with two tables of cleaner just once a month. It’s easy to remember if you do it the first day of your period.

CoconutGrove · 01/12/2020 23:35

Ive got a John Lewis one where you can choose the length of the cycle. Works fine.

Seeingadistance · 01/12/2020 23:38

All these long cycles are a real pain in the arse. I’m in Scotland and don’t have a tumble dryer (by choice). I like to be able to stick a washing on when I have a good drying day. Now, by the time the bloody washing machine has finished it’s raining again!

Caesious · 01/12/2020 23:47

I have a Samsung Eco Bubble WW5000 and absolutely love it. The short wash is around 45 minutes at 40 degrees. Normal daily wash with 3 rinses at 40 is an hour and 4 minutes. It’s just under your budget too. Definitely worth a look!

Shopaholic100 · 01/12/2020 23:49

If you’re thinking about buying a Samsung washing machine, make sure it has daily wash (1 hour wash), some of the more expensive models don’t have it and have much longer cycles with smaller loads. The 15 min wash is a cold wash and only really suitable for a freshen up, you can choose a higher temperature for the time can double.

AntiHop · 01/12/2020 23:53

I have a Bosch varioperfect, 2.5 years old. It does a standard wash with 1400 speed spin in just over an hour. You can do a quicker version in 45 mins. There's also a 30 min and 15 min speed wash, but it spins slower so comes out wetter.

HerFlowersToLove · 01/12/2020 23:56

We have a Bosch WAQ283S1GB. It has a 15 minute cycle, and speed perfect and eco perfect buttons. A speed perfect mixed wash takes 48 minutes. The same wash not speeded up takes 60 mins. I'm too impatient to know how long an eco perfect wash takes.

BaskingMad · 01/12/2020 23:57

My good old beko does 40 degree wash in 1hr and 4min- that’s with extra rinse.

Daily quick at 40degrees is 38 minutes.

We wash daily, change clothes often and i don’t see how anything needs hours in a washing machine bar special care items.
