To want a washing machine that does a wash in under 3 bloody hours

DuckyMcDuck · 01/12/2020 21:20

Our 8 1/2 year old washing machine has died and so searching for new one.

Obviously haven't bought one for a while and can't believe all the basic 40 degree washes are around 180-200 minutes. Our old one was 80 minutes.

We always buy Bosch but it seems they're all the same. Am I missing something here?

@helloxhristmas

Is that on an eco setting? My 40' daily wash is 1hr11mins in my Samsung.quick wash is 29 minutes. 8kg machine
When did you buy it?

@DuckyMcDuck. LIADS of people have posted about this. One poster had even bought the same make & model she'd look at previously & that had changed the length of the cycle.

I am dreading having to replace my machine.

It's to meet all the new regulations. 🙇🏻‍♀️🙇🏻‍♀️

liveitwell · 01/12/2020 23:57

Our Bosch washer/dryer does a 40 load in 65 mins.

Sisiwawa · 02/12/2020 00:07

John Lewis do a Bosch for £299, i think

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 02/12/2020 00:18

My hoover does a 14 min, 29 min, 44 & 59 min with a really quiet spin.

huntersmum · 02/12/2020 00:57

I have a new Bosch and the standard settings do take a long time but there is a speed option and a 60 wash takes 1hr 5 and a 40 takes about an hour, both with a 1400 spin.

Authenticcelestialmusic · 02/12/2020 03:15

I have just replaced my machine with a cheap beko 30 degree wash in about 40 minutes and no need to do a second spin. It was under £200 from Argos and is absolutely fine. I had a Bosch pre kids which lasted about 8 years being used 2 x a week approx. Then a zanussi for 4 years which was used 10 times a week (cloth nappies). So probably lasted longer in terms of useage.
I do feel washing machines have got worse over time, they are often not worth repairing (or you cannot get the bits to repair them easily). If the gov really cared about eco options they’d find a way of getting manufacturers to encourage repairs as surely this would be better for the environment?

MrsMonkeyBear · 02/12/2020 05:10

I have a Beko machine (was about £300 but is now 3 years old). We tend to just do a 40⁰ quick was (40 mins) for the daily clothes washes but do use the longer more eco washes for towels, bedding and underwear.

PhilCornwall1 · 02/12/2020 05:17

We've got a Bosh jobby (the model is "the grey box under the worktop by the sink") and its quick.

Bedding can be done in 1hr 15, unless it's our boys bedding, that's washed for the best part of a week. Quick wash is up to 40 degrees, 15 or 30 minutes.

What I want is a machine where pillow cases don't end up in the duvet cover!! Just why does that happen?

LightasaBreeze · 02/12/2020 05:27

I have a John Lewis one
www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-partners-jlwm1428-freestanding-washing-machine-8kg-load-a-energy-rating-white/p3895192

and you can choose how long you want the wash on the main cotton and synthetic programs, I usually choose 1-2 hours but you can choose shorter if you want, most of the others are short anyway like delicates and wool wash. You can also add stuff mid wash and it has a 14 min cycle

Hopeisnotastrategy · 02/12/2020 05:40

Argos sell Bush washing machines with a 15 minute wash cycle. They are really cheap machines but they are good, I love mine. They even do one with a 12 kg capacity!

Oblomov20 · 02/12/2020 06:02

51 minutes for a 40.
1 hr 11 for a 60.

TuMeke · 02/12/2020 06:26

My Miele gives me a standard 40 degree fullwash in 68mins (and if I wanted to do it hotter, I think it would be 71mins).

maddiemookins16mum · 02/12/2020 06:34

Crikey, we use the 20 min wash and 17 min rinse/spin on every load we do 😊

PhilCornwall1 · 02/12/2020 06:45

With all these timings though, you do need to consider what is called "the Bosch minute".

1 Bosch minute = 1min 37secs

MarionoiraM · 02/12/2020 06:55

Check the specs very carefully. A lot of posters here seem to be happy to use the quick option for everything - that wouldn't work with my Siemens machine as the speed perfect button is meant for half loads only (so normal wash at 60° would take 2:46, speed perfect only 1:06, but only 4 kg instead of 7). And as mentioned before, the 15/30 minutes cycle is really only good for freshening up, not for getting stuff clean.

NaughtipussMaximus · 02/12/2020 07:01

@PhilCornwall1 it’s a faff but you need to button your duvet cover up before you put it in the wash. Every other or every third button will do it.

AlizarinRed · 02/12/2020 07:04

I thought eco also meant low water use and that this contributed to the longer cycles.
This might matter if you are on a meter
Makes sense in Italy not so much in Scotland.......... if there's one thing we have a lot of...

GroundAlmonds · 02/12/2020 07:06

I’ve concluded that it’s best to buy cheap (indesit/hot point) for washing machines and condenser dryers - no LCD displays, no sensors, nice analogue knobs and 90 wash available for disgusting jobs. These always have reasonable cycles and don’t boss the user around.

Conversely, spend more (Miele, Bosch) on vacuums and dishwashers.

It’s just the way the tech is going and whether it helps the consumer or not.

userxx · 02/12/2020 07:15

Love a beko washing machine, it does quick washes at variable temperatures.

AlizarinRed · 02/12/2020 07:17

no LCD displays, no sensors, nice analogue knobs

OH, yes, I'm an impatient person and I want to flick a switch and know it's on, not press and wait for twinkling lights or tinkling tunes.
Or think I've held it long enough only to go back later and find it didn't even start.

PhilCornwall1 · 02/12/2020 07:18

Now you've said that, it's obvious isn't it? Right, Saturday morning I'm buttoning them up.

MadinMarch · 02/12/2020 10:57

I have this Hoover washer dryer and I'm very happy with it. it has a 14 minute and 30 min wash cycle on it.

I paid £399 in 2018. It's out of stock at the moment with this company but you could try looking around for it.

Bobtheshark · 02/12/2020 11:02

Both my machines have a fast button. On one machine I can put it on a 60 degree wash, reduce the temp to 40 and put the fast button on. (you can’t use fast in a 40mwash). It washes in 1 1/2 hours on a 1600 spin. Both machines also have A quick wash.

Fluffybutter · 02/12/2020 11:07

Our Hoover washer dryer also has a daily wash function 40 degrees in 30 mins .
I also have quick wash so 30 degrees in 15 mins
