To want a washing machine that does a wash in under 3 bloody hours

DuckyMcDuck · 01/12/2020 21:20

Our 8 1/2 year old washing machine has died and so searching for new one.

Obviously haven't bought one for a while and can't believe all the basic 40 degree washes are around 180-200 minutes. Our old one was 80 minutes.

We always buy Bosch but it seems they're all the same. Am I missing something here?

This is a random Bosch from google, but if you zoom in you can see the “super quick” setting on the machine

YANBU we bought a washing machine 18 months ago that has this exact issue.
It means I use none of the functions apart from two.
My old washing machine was great, quick wash, medium wash, long wash, I could adjust the temp so even a quick wash could go at 60 if I wanted.

None of that with the new one.

41weekswithno2 · 01/12/2020 21:39

I have a Bosch varioperfect. It has lots of settings and you can speed up washes by clicking 'speed perfect'. Can get a wash done in around an hour

But doesn't the OP want a decent wash in a reasonable time?

Not a super quick one.

My hotpoint was about £250 and has 60 degree wash that runs for 1 hour. Perfectly sufficient to wash basically all our clothes (work uniforms need washing at 60). Not sure how eco friendly it is (the eco button is 3 hours) but given we have at least 8 full uniforms + 5 school uniforms + regular clothes + everything else... I havent got time to be putting things on 3 hour washes.

We have this Bosch. Currently £349

Most of them have delay timers now so I load my washing machine in the evening and hang it to dry first thing in the morning.

If this kind of routine would work for you then it doesn't matter how many hours during the night it takes to do the wash.

Some of the new washing machines (like Samsung) now have an autodose feature so that you don't have to second guess the amount of washing powder required! I think that's really cool.

I have this Hotpoint. Most of its cycles are around 3 hours, but it has 9, 15, 30 and 60 minute cycles. The 60 one will do 60° wash.

I really want an extra rinse, so I use the 9 minute after a wash for that. But I find the short cycles are quite rough, and not good for wool, which I don't want in a long wash. They also only take a half load and the 15 and 9 min take less, so I have to divide a large wash and rinse twice. And only the 60 min does a 1400 spin, so I stick the extra-rinsed items in a separate spin dryer. So goodish and baddish.

There's a brand called Ebac, which is British and which does hot and cold fill. They seem quite different so they might have better programs. They give the option of an extra rinse, at least.

Scotsmaw · 01/12/2020 21:42

I do a fastwash 30
Mins then an extra spin.

Orangedaisy · 01/12/2020 21:45

Agree with altering your routine for the lond washes. We set the timer and it runs early morning to be hung out first thing. Or set it so it’s ready mid evening to be hung, or whenever works. We have solar panels and harvested water so seems a shame to cancel out the economy by running expensive washes. I am not really very into the environment but am really tight so it works for us!!

Bigchicken · 01/12/2020 21:45

I have an LG - does an 'Intensive 60 minutes' wash at 30, 40, 60 degrees. I use this every time and it's great.

Bigchicken · 01/12/2020 21:46

Forgot to say - it's eco as it weighs the load to decide how much water is needed. Not expensive either.

DuckyMcDuck · 01/12/2020 21:47

This is all really helpful, thank you all.

It looks like the Speed Perfect Option is what we need. Most of the time, waiting a few hours doesn't matter but sometimes usually when DS suddenly remembers he needs stinky PE kit washed for tomorrow a shorter cycle is a necessity.

I think this needs some proper online research tomorrow with tea and cake for company.

Thanks again Flowers

We’ve just got a new Bosch and the 40 degree mixed load cycle takes an hour - www.bosch-home.co.uk/product-list/exclusive/WAJ24006GB#/Tabs=section-highlights/

sofiaaaaaa · 01/12/2020 21:50

@WheresMyMask OP just said they want a “basic” wash under 3 hours which the quick setting would achieve.

As others have mentioned the normal wash tends to take longer due to being machines being more eco friendly now, so OP might not be able to find one that matches her old one.

Missingthebridegene · 01/12/2020 21:51

Beko 7kg 30 degree wash 39 mins! 40 degree 50 mins! There's no way we could do all our washing if it took three hours every time! X

AddictedToCrisps · 01/12/2020 21:51

My zanussi has a 30@30 option (30 mins at 30 degrees). But, my washing machine does something that wasn’t advertised. If I set it for a normal cotton 40 degree wash, it states 1.55 hrs, but after 5 minutes it seems to sense the weight of the load and adjusts down to 1.05 usually. Plus I’ve already pressed the ‘quick’ button which had already halved the time from over 3 hrs. I always buy as cheap as I can so I know I didn’t pay more than £200 for it. It was from Curry’s and it was reduced but not by loads.

SilverIvyRing · 01/12/2020 21:51

Samsung , 1 hour wash. There are quick washes ( small loads which can take 30-40 mins) you can also play about with number of rinses and spin speeds

SilverIvyRing · 01/12/2020 21:53

Ah yes on cotton wash, my washer weighs the load, starts of at an eye watering 3 hrs, slow spins and decides 1 hr 40 mins or similar

user1481840227 · 01/12/2020 21:53

My washing machine has a 14 minute wash.
The first 13 minutes take 13 minutes and the last 1 minute takes around 52 minutes lol drives me mad

SilverIvyRing · 01/12/2020 21:54

Quick setting is often for 3 shirts or similar, so won’t was a load well. You need to look carefully

SilverIvyRing · 01/12/2020 21:54

Alexa1990 · 01/12/2020 21:55

Our Miele does 20 min at 40 degree at work.
At home our Samsung does a 17 min wash at 40 but sometimes needs a spin after.

Both are great and I’d never return to three hour washes

Pedallleur · 01/12/2020 21:57

That's eco cycle. Our Bosch has a 40deg wash at 2.13 hours or a shorter wash of 1.13 hrs that's on cotton.

NCNecessary · 01/12/2020 21:59

Bosch 8kg,
Standard 60 wash is 2hrs20
Standard 40 wash is 2 hrs40
Quick wash is 1:04
Eco wash is 4 hours something

Delicate (sports) is 43 min
