To want a washing machine that does a wash in under 3 bloody hours

Our 8 1/2 year old washing machine has died and so searching for new one.

Obviously haven't bought one for a while and can't believe all the basic 40 degree washes are around 180-200 minutes. Our old one was 80 minutes.

We always buy Bosch but it seems they're all the same. Am I missing something here?

Our Eco cycle is about that long. Which makes me think that newer machines are all upping their environmental game and using less water, but longer cycles. Possible?

helloxhristmas · 01/12/2020 21:22

Is that on an eco setting? My 40' daily wash is 1hr11mins in my Samsung.quick wash is 29 minutes. 8kg machine

Ilove · 01/12/2020 21:23

I have a Siemens/Bosch that has a 15 min load, a 60 min 40* load, and upwards from there.

It was bloody expensive though...

Santaisironingwrappingpaper · 01/12/2020 21:24

Beko 40 degree wash in 50 mins...

Mrsbclinton · 01/12/2020 21:25

I have an indiest that does a quick was in 30 mins

BeardieWeirdie · 01/12/2020 21:26

Yes it seems to be the new normal. Mine does have a “quick wash” button which halves the time from 3 hours to 1.5 which is handy.

Lilac95 · 01/12/2020 21:26

My hotpoint has a 15, 30 and 60 minute quick wash cycle, also has a time saver mode and all the other cycles. Had a quick look and my models
No longer for sale but they do have ones with very similar cycle lengths

elsaesmeralda · 01/12/2020 21:27

We've got an aeg and all the cycles are so long! But there is a time save button you can select on all the cycles, you press it for however long you want shaved off the time, usually goes to about an hour and half off the original time so you can get it right down. Not sure if that uses more energy though?

Sirzy · 01/12/2020 21:28

I have a Samsung and the standard 40 degree wash is 1.03

RedskyAtnight · 01/12/2020 21:28

Our Bosch has a "speed perfect" setting which really cuts down the wash time if you're in a rush. So we use the longer, more eco friendly washes when we wash overnight, and the speed perfect option when we need a quicker wash during the day.

TheSmallAssassin · 01/12/2020 21:29

This is what reducing carbon emissions looks like, folks! Our washing machine has shorter cycles, but you need to put a lot less in.

Bluexxx · 01/12/2020 21:30

We have a candy that has a 30 minute, 40 degrees cycle. I use the longer eco cycles for bedding, towels, big loads etc. But the quick one is perfect for everyday clothes that just need freshening up

ChocAuVin · 01/12/2020 21:31

My Electra was cheap as chips and it’s stellar! Has a rapid 15 min cycle at 30 plus rapid 60 min cycles at 40 and 60. Also has an eco 20 degree billion hour long setting, amongst others. I barely use any of the longer ones!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 01/12/2020 21:32

As others have said. I have a BOSH. I use the speed perfect button to half the time. I do it for the dishwasher as well.

On the washing machine I press speed perfect and aqua plus. I read it somewhere. It’s probably the least eco friendly way of using the machine, but it works and it halves the time. Takes approx 1.15 hrs to wash a load.

DuckyMcDuck · 01/12/2020 21:32

Ok, so it looks like it's an energy saving reason (although trying to get my head around how a 3 hour wash can use less energy than one taking half the time).

Our budget is max £400 so I think that probably excludes a lot of these (I do appreciate the suggestions though)

My Samsung’s quickest 40 degree wash is about 45 minutes. The daily wash is just over an hour, and the darks wash is 1.5 hours. I couldn’t deal with a 3 hour wash! Some days I do three washes in a day.

ChocAuVin · 01/12/2020 21:33

Honestly — I literally bought it because it was the cheapest that fit the bill and I was skint. Now I’m in a much better place financially but I wouldn’t change it for the world!

Longdistance · 01/12/2020 21:33

My Hoover washing machine does a good few quick washes. The quickest is 14 minutes. The one I use is 59 minutes (couldn’t be 60 minutes could it? 🙄).

NaughtipussMaximus · 01/12/2020 21:33

It was about £450, I think.

NutNutmum · 01/12/2020 21:33

OP Im not sure where you are looking? but my new BOSCH "wat28371gb" 9KG does a normal 40 degree wash in 63minuites.

DuckyMcDuck · 01/12/2020 21:34

If you have a Bosch, can you recommend it? And if so, what's the model number please?

sofiaaaaaa · 01/12/2020 21:34

Lots of washing machines have a “rapid” setting which washes it faster than the standard setting - double check the listings of the ones you have browsed so far. I think the rapid setting of mine is 45 minutes but 2-3 hours for the standard setting. Obviously wouldn’t recommend the fast for delicate items etc.

satnighttakeaway · 01/12/2020 21:34

The longer it takes the better it is for the environment, tbh it doesn't bother me, I never find I need anything to be washed more quickly.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 01/12/2020 21:36

i have to double check but I swear my new machine gives the time in hours and minutes.

it said 2:35 the other day for a 60 wash, so I thought I'd try the quick wash button to see what it said and so I pressed it, pressed on and walked away, realised I had not checked how fast the quick was and I am sure it said 1:95 ....wtaf is that all about??
