To want a washing machine that does a wash in under 3 bloody hours

DuckyMcDuck · 01/12/2020 21:20

Our 8 1/2 year old washing machine has died and so searching for new one.

Obviously haven't bought one for a while and can't believe all the basic 40 degree washes are around 180-200 minutes. Our old one was 80 minutes.

We always buy Bosch but it seems they're all the same. Am I missing something here?

I’ve got a Beko. I love it. 10kilo load, cheap as chips, less than £300. I’ve attached an image of the various programmes and their timings. Might give you an idea of what’s what. Before the Beko, I’d had an LG that cost more than double 10 years ago. I was recommended the Beko by an appliance repairman who said they were good machines. So pleased with it I bought my daughter the same one.
The list is: Programme: temp available: spin speed: time: time with Fast button. As you can see, not every programme has the fast option but enough do. Hope this helps.

Just to say, there are other programmes too, for example there’s a 90 degree wash but I never use that so didn’t write it down. I wrote this list a year ago when I got my machine, I just thought it might help you.

I have a Bosch and I always use the Speed Perfect function so that it does my regular loads in just over an hour. Otherwise, it takes far too long.

SlopesOff · 02/12/2020 14:36

Ours has standard cycles of about 3 hours minimum. It has a 30 minute cycle for light washes and a button to put it on a shorter wash. It also has an option for extra rinsing although that it pretty much a waste of time.

New machines don't rinse well and ours leaves a lot of suds in the little dip around the door. I use less detergent than suggested and often use none at all and still end up with a lot of suds.

Eco seems to mean uses less water but 4 times more electricity.

I put my wash on and start the machine, when it has been on for about 20 minutes I stop the machine and leave the washing to soak for a couple of hours, then start it again. Saves about 2 hours of churning.

I have aeg that has the option to do normal, quick or super quick wash

Waveysnail · 02/12/2020 14:45

I went for one with 5 year guarantee

ElsieMc · 02/12/2020 14:53

I had a samsung but it had a major fault where the part was £120 plus fitting. I decided to buy a cheapy from AO. Its a Hotpoint and its pretty good. It had a daily wash option at 45mins and quick wash at 30. I panicked a bit about the long wash times but have found it washes efficiently on the 45 mins. My Samsung had a five year guarantee and it died about 2 months after that! You could hear the bearings were worn because it sounded like a motorbike.

Comefromaway · 02/12/2020 14:57

I’ve got one of these 100-158 minutes

LemonOrange · 02/12/2020 14:58

Drives me nuts. Newish Miele, the quick wash is 60 mins, the cotton wash is 3 hrs as is the minimum iron wash. It took a couple of years to train DH to select the quick wash. It also beeps incessantly when it has finished, when you turn it off it gives another bloody beep. Drives me up the wall. Our fridge also beeps non stop to tell you the door is open while you try to speed put the shopping in. I am constantly foaming at the mouth “why does everything have to beep at me”.

CloudMoon · 02/12/2020 15:53

Just use the "quick wash/ rapid" button. I thought most washing machines had this button. Mine cost £200 and I usually use the quick option, which means around 45 minutes up to 1 hour 15, depending on the type of cycle it is selected with.

Twinkie01 · 02/12/2020 15:59

All of the cycles even the boiling cotton wash are not more than 2 hours on my Samsung bubbletronic washing machine (most under an hour), the one my two pairs of running trainers are in on at the moment is 53 minutes, which will be just enough time to get them out and hide them in the airing cupboard before DH gets home and does his 🤨 face 😀😀😀

PorpoiseSpitGazzette · 02/12/2020 16:34

@LemonOrange for other Miele machines this might help

However if you have a new w1 machine ( where the up and down scroll are above and below the programme display ( not side by side as on the older model ) turn dial to a five o clock position extra programmes- scroll to settings and press ok, scroll to buzzer volume press the prompt where the ok normally is and press the prompt, it should change from buzzer volume to buzzer off!

AriesTheRam · 02/12/2020 16:36

Beko.Quick wash 30 degrees 15 mins

LemonOrange · 02/12/2020 17:42

PorpoiseSpitzGazzette you little diamond. Thank you, the whole family thanks you. You are an absolute treasure. Star

Have you researched Ebac washing machines Op ? They might be higher cost than your budget - I haven’t checked all the options, but when you factor in build quality and the extended parts and labour cover it might be more affordable in the long run. I think I saw an online offer for 499 pounds for 7 kg one but not a retailer I’ve used before. There are lots of you tube videos of the company and some engineers opinions on build quality and ease of repair, and future proofing against obsolescence, versus other makes. I have decided this is the brand I will buy next time - seems to bridge the chasm of build quality versus price or vfm factor. I researched them after another poster recommended. I had just bought a new machine, wish I’d found these guys first. They don’t chase the standard test award judgements - the owner explains why. You could buy hot / cold fill option and there’s a pre set for a personalised programme which is handy.

[quote justasking111]You want to see the american washing machines my friend has one so fast I am very jealous. They do sell them here

I'm always amazed at American machines when we rent over there but they take in hot water, get through a wash very quickly but don't seem to clean as well.

DuckyMcDuck · 02/12/2020 21:51

Just a quick update, spoken to a washing machine man who thinks he can fix our machine Grin. He's coming to try tomorrow so hopefully I don't have to make any purchasing decisions!

Thank you for all the suggestions and hopefully all the info has helped someone else Flowers

Fingers crossed for you OP. BrewBrew Cheers !

WitchQueenofDarkness · 03/12/2020 00:06

My LG does a normal sized load at 40 in about 1hour 11. It weighs the washing and the time depends on how full it is. It's generally around that though unless it's full of towels with take an extra 15 minutes.

The eco cycle is over 4 hours - I only used it once and was horrified

RoseMartha · 03/12/2020 00:07

I have a bosch and usually use the 1 hour cycle

CounsellorTroi · 03/12/2020 00:07

My Bosch does a 40 degree wash in 50 minutes. 60 degree wash in 1hr 45. We've had it a while though.

combatbarbie · 03/12/2020 00:31

I can do express in 15 mins, the sports cycle which I can set to various temps/speeds is 45 mins and our normal go to cycle for just normal washing. A standard mixed was is 1hr 13 but goes up if you increase temp and spin and is used more for DH work gear and bedding. Then longer cycles for cottons, delicates etc. 9kg drum. It's a kenwood.

BashfulClam · 03/12/2020 00:35

My candy one does a quick wash 15, 30 or 45 mu minutes or the cotton wash, 59 minute 40c programme.
