My weird phobias, what are yours?

I don’t mean spiders, or flying or heights... or even small spaces. I think that’s pretty normal tbh 🙂

I was telling DP about my ‘fears’ and he said I’m strange 😄, so are these strange phobias?

Clusters of seeds or other small things - like the inside of a bell pepper 🤢 I can’t look at it, it makes me feel sick and I just want to crush it 😕 My neighbours have clusters of moss on their garage in little balls and I really want to scrape it off!!

Machinery under water - more specifically, grates in a swimming pool. I don’t know why, they’re just dark and unknown and I think I’ll get my hair caught 🤷🏾‍♀️😆

This one is probably weird I guess and it will be hard to explain. Places that are too empty/abandoned or me accidentally ending up somewhere I shouldn’t be. In work once I took the lift and I pressed the wrong button and ended up in the basement (doors opened it was pitch black and oppressive smelt of damp) 😣 doors took ages to close too! Then recently, went to the coast for a few days, found this small deserted beach backed into rocky caves. At first I wanted to go down and have the beach to ourselves and then for some reason I was filled with absolute dread and I couldn’t 😑

Ok so I’ve possibly outed myself as a weirdo, what are yours? If anyone has similar too, I’d be happy knowing I’m not alone!

Fictional ghosts. As I'm films, tv, books etc about ghosts. Ok in young children's films (I can cope with Harry Potter or cartoons) but not anything more. I freak out.

Haunted castles, caves etc... Where the ghosts are 'real' (depending on your belief level) I'm absolutely fine.

Wet toilet paper. Not used (I think disliking that is pretty standard) but made wet while still on the roll by the shower spraying randomly or over-zealous toddler hand washing, makes me feel physically sick. It's weird and I dont know where it comes from but I HATE it

bearlyactive · 11/09/2020 08:01

Hand dryers. Such a loud sound in such a small space freaks me out.

Slumcat · 11/09/2020 08:02

The painted dark lines on the bottoms of swimming pools, I can’t go near them, I think it’s connected to a frar of sharks!

This! Any wet tissue turns my stomach.

Also, massive boats or spaceships in films give me a funny feeling.

GreenPlum · 11/09/2020 08:03

Empty swimming pools totally freak me out.
Also photos of swimming pools in black and white. I can't look at them.

LioneIRichTea · 11/09/2020 08:04

It is weird that I can emphasise with all the above 😆 When I was a child I used to hate the sound of a toilet flush and I’d leg it back to bed!!

Yes sounds like an inbuilt fear of something dangerous being in the water

Holey patterns like crumpets make me feel uneasy haha

LioneIRichTea · 11/09/2020 08:08

I’m ok with holes unless something’s in it, then I have an overwhelming compulsion to get it out 😆

Food dropped on the floor, especially if it's been trodden on.
Our current bathroom - it's needed replacing since we moved in and now work is about to start. DH has pulled a few tiles off and some bath panelling to investigate and now I just can't go in there. Luckily we have a downstairs toilet.

I can understand this. Things that should be something but aren’t, like an empty playground or abandoned amusement park.

I have had bad dreams about terrible toilets. Either blocked and over flowing or with no privacy arranged round the room like armchairs or with curtains round like hospital beds or with weird flushing mechanisms and strange shape that you have to climb up to. Don't know what that says about me!BlushConfused

pinkyboots1 · 11/09/2020 08:11

My irrational terror is slugs.. not just repulsed by them but totally terrified, I've had to sit outside and wait for a neighbour to 'rescue' me when the cat brought one into the house! I have this crazy idea that they'll learn to fly ... after all the Daleks learnt!
My friends, other half and kids all automatically check places for me but people who don't know me well just laugh

veryvery · 11/09/2020 08:12

And I remember once a very unsettling swimming pool in a dream. It was on a bit of a cliff, made out of the rock formations. Very deep but completely emptied and filled with the tide.

Figmentofimagination · 11/09/2020 08:15

Open water, especially at night - you don't know what's under there.
Stilt men - they're weird. I don't know why I don't like them but I do. They make me freeze and I can't look at them. I've had to walk under the legs of one before to get out of a shop and I freaked out.

FloridaLife · 11/09/2020 08:17

Mine is a pretty strange one. I have a crippling fear of hot air balloons 🙈 I have never been in one, I don’t think that would be too bad as it’s not a height thing, but seeing one floating in the air makes me feel sick and faint. Not too bad here in Scotland as you don’t see them often, but when visiting my family in Florida they are everywhere.
Also I hate seeing large objects out of place. Like I saw a helicopter being towed on a trailer once, totally freaked me out 😂 they don’t bother me when in the sky!

LioneIRichTea · 11/09/2020 08:18

@Figmentofimagination I forgot open water at night! That’s another one, although deep deep water makes me feel queasy, the thought of it going so deep it’s pitch black and never ending! The Mariana? Trench freaks me out!

Sparklers - can’t go near them.
Had a full blown panic attack when one was served in a cocktail not that long ago. Eugghhh

butwhatdoesthatmean · 11/09/2020 08:21

VHS and audio cassettes . My mum has a few tapes given to her from the NHS in the 1970/80s for relaxation purposes - breathing exercises and muscle relaxation - and they’re very disconcerting to listen to . Videos I have this thought that if I don’t turn it off something else will be on the cassette after ie when they go black at the end . Don’t like ‘logo/idents’ on tapes either .

I don’t know what it is as I don’t have the same thing with dvds, it’s just weird .

seayork2020 · 11/09/2020 08:22

Flushing toilets on planes

This is not a phobia as such but i hate turtlneck jumpers, lace up shoes, wearing non elasticated skirts and trousers (i can't even wear trousers themselves anymore), fitted tops like cotton/linen shirts

Basically any clothes tight

I have these when I need to go to the toilet. I think it’s my subconscious trying to tell me I need a wee, but preventing me from wetting the bed by making the toilets too awful to use 🤔
