My weird phobias, what are yours?

I don’t mean spiders, or flying or heights... or even small spaces. I think that’s pretty normal tbh 🙂

I was telling DP about my ‘fears’ and he said I’m strange 😄, so are these strange phobias?

Clusters of seeds or other small things - like the inside of a bell pepper 🤢 I can’t look at it, it makes me feel sick and I just want to crush it 😕 My neighbours have clusters of moss on their garage in little balls and I really want to scrape it off!!

Machinery under water - more specifically, grates in a swimming pool. I don’t know why, they’re just dark and unknown and I think I’ll get my hair caught 🤷🏾‍♀️😆

This one is probably weird I guess and it will be hard to explain. Places that are too empty/abandoned or me accidentally ending up somewhere I shouldn’t be. In work once I took the lift and I pressed the wrong button and ended up in the basement (doors opened it was pitch black and oppressive smelt of damp) 😣 doors took ages to close too! Then recently, went to the coast for a few days, found this small deserted beach backed into rocky caves. At first I wanted to go down and have the beach to ourselves and then for some reason I was filled with absolute dread and I couldn’t 😑

Ok so I’ve possibly outed myself as a weirdo, what are yours? If anyone has similar too, I’d be happy knowing I’m not alone!

The underneath of boats
Swimming pool filters
Woodlice

I've remembered another one. Big car haulers. I always worry that a car is going to come off the top and hit me so I can't drive behind one.

Pamelaaaaa · 11/09/2020 08:53

Bristles Sad
Toothbrushes, paint brushes etc. Can't even watch people brush their teeth on tv.
No problem brushing my own teeth or using a paintbrush but can't stand others doing so and the thought of bristles. I've got goosebumps and feel like I want to rip my skin off just writing this.

YummyJamDoughnut · 11/09/2020 08:56

Boats in museums/dry docks. Something about seeing them out of water really freaks me out.

brushandmop · 11/09/2020 09:00

Mime and wooden puppets - think Lord Luck from Friday Night Dinner

Kids playing with balloons

When milk is spilt and not cleaned up straight away. Even the smallest drop make me uneasy

FrancesFlute · 11/09/2020 09:00

Orange squash. All types of squash but orange is the worst. It's a smell thing mainly.

I have to hold my breath if someone is drinking it near me and I could not stand the thought of touching it. I don't give it to DS and my DH has a lime one I ask him to only drink when I'm not in the room.

I feel super on edge watching people drink it as I'm so scared of smelling it or getting a drop on me.

Bananas with brown or black bits on them. Make me retch.

JalapenoDave · 11/09/2020 09:04

SPITTING IMAGES PUPPETS. The horror 😭

I completely get this and thought I was alone! The smell of someone's breath when they've been drinking it...foul

Sneezes. Pre COVID. I watched a documentary on how far the spit travels and have never been the same since

Besom · 11/09/2020 09:09

I don't like lolly sticks or wooden forks - they make me gag and I can't touch them. I dont like when dh and dd walk around the house doing stuff with mouthwash in their mouths. This also makes gag. Also tissues or used napkins on dirty plates. Not so much phobias as disgust or sensory thing.

Sticky out veins and bones Envy

Paperyfish · 11/09/2020 09:09

Waxworks- like posed corpses ready to re animate at a moments notice.

PolicecarOnAToe · 11/09/2020 09:10

Loose hairs. Even my own. They make me urge.
And custard at the bottom of a saucepan, if I’ve over cooked it and it looks all bumpy. I just want to scratch/squash the little holes. Hard to explain properly.

Lozz22 · 11/09/2020 09:13

I have trypophobia so things with holes in them

Justjoinedforthis · 11/09/2020 09:14

@LioneIRichTea I share your machinery under water phobia! I think it it links to my fear of giant ships, and especially giant ships out of water, or where you can see a water line on the hull. It makes me feel physically sick.
Also something like a flooded valley, knowing there are huge trees submerged underneath. I used to have a nightmare where you could just see the top of a tall tree poking out of water!

Lozz22 · 11/09/2020 09:15

Also abandoned water parks give me the hibbly jibblies

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 11/09/2020 09:19

Bridges, what if it collapses when I'm crossing it. Am I safer on foot or in a vehicle? When this fear was particularly bad it made getting to work tricky as I had to get across the river. Some days I would walk the long route because crossing over the weir felt safer than the actual concrete bridge Hmm

As a child I was terrified of the grating in the local swimming pool, I think it's where the wave machine was. I was convinced an orca lived in it. Even now I can't swim right up to one in any pool.

minispacehamster · 11/09/2020 09:20

The word "clusters" makes me feel sick and itchy. I cant look at things with holes in, like sponges or graters etc, they make me itchy and sweaty. Even if someone doodles loads of dots near eachother I go all funny. I think it's called triptophobia but I'm not googling it in case images pop up.

3catsandcounting · 11/09/2020 09:25

Post boxes. I'm better now than when I was younger but still struggle with them. Fear of posting something that hasn't been sealed or addressed properly, fear of posting the wrong thing, eg car keys, Fear of someone grabbing my hand as it goes into the slot.
I always feel that it's very final, something is going to change for the worse every time I post something.

GameSetMatch · 11/09/2020 09:25

I have a real phobia of not being able to see people’s eyes! I Hate talking to people who wear sunglasses, I have to walk away or ignore them, my friends and family understand but still have a good laugh about it. I just don’t understand how people can happily chat without seeing someone’s eyes!

Notimeforaname · 11/09/2020 09:30

The fast cycle on the washing machine terrifies me.
I have to leave the room or cower somewhere out of the firing line. I can't help but see the door flying off and killing me.

ThreeImaginaryBoys · 11/09/2020 09:31

I have a real but very odd phobia (I've never met anyone else with it). I am petrified of anchors. They terrify me.

This also extends to buoys and anything fastened in open water, like floating rafts. They scare me witless. Obviously something to do with deep water, I guess, but I'm a perfectly happy swimmer!

Notimeforaname · 11/09/2020 09:31

Also bellybuttons... I can't see anything touch them it makes me want to heave or pass out. Feel like heaving now 😭

lola006 · 11/09/2020 09:34

I’m absolutely terrified of fireworks and have been for my whole life. I hate NYE and Nov 5 - tend to shut myself in with the dogs and hide!
