My weird phobias, what are yours?

I don’t mean spiders, or flying or heights... or even small spaces. I think that’s pretty normal tbh 🙂

I was telling DP about my ‘fears’ and he said I’m strange 😄, so are these strange phobias?

Clusters of seeds or other small things - like the inside of a bell pepper 🤢 I can’t look at it, it makes me feel sick and I just want to crush it 😕 My neighbours have clusters of moss on their garage in little balls and I really want to scrape it off!!

Machinery under water - more specifically, grates in a swimming pool. I don’t know why, they’re just dark and unknown and I think I’ll get my hair caught 🤷🏾‍♀️😆

This one is probably weird I guess and it will be hard to explain. Places that are too empty/abandoned or me accidentally ending up somewhere I shouldn’t be. In work once I took the lift and I pressed the wrong button and ended up in the basement (doors opened it was pitch black and oppressive smelt of damp) 😣 doors took ages to close too! Then recently, went to the coast for a few days, found this small deserted beach backed into rocky caves. At first I wanted to go down and have the beach to ourselves and then for some reason I was filled with absolute dread and I couldn’t 😑

Ok so I’ve possibly outed myself as a weirdo, what are yours? If anyone has similar too, I’d be happy knowing I’m not alone!

Wind turbines.

Just standing there, silently and malevolently spinning around.
Gives me the creeps.

peakygal · 11/09/2020 12:56

Someone touching my feet. I don't have a fear of feet but even the thought of them being touched makes me gag. If I have to touch them myself I can just about manage and wet socks on my feet like if you walk in something that was spilled, make me gag so bad 🤢 The sensation is just disgusting

MostTacticalNameChange · 11/09/2020 12:58

@mrsBtheparker

Tea bags, I can just about put a dry one into a cup or pot but I loathe used, wet ones, someone else has to empty the cup or pot! CIgarettes, a long, long time ago, someone at a very formal dinner said Hold that for a minute please and pushed a lighted cigarette into my hand, before I could say No. I let it drop and it did a lot of damage to a very expensive carpet. When OH still smoked I couldn't even handle a packet of cigarettes.
Urgh me too. I cannot even type the word. Parents both heavy smokers, the path was 50% gravel 50% fag ends. And now my next door neighbour smokes - she uses a flower bed that is right next to my driveway as an ashtray. The sight makes me vom.

@Meggymoo777 Stickers here too. My heart sinks everytime the dc are gifted a stickerbook. There are some re-usable vinyl stickers that I can just about handle but otherwise, no. I'm scared they, or a torn piece will get into my food/my mouth. Thank god for pull ring tins - when you have to use a can opener and sometimes it would tear the label. Bleaurgh!

MadMumToThree · 11/09/2020 13:03

@veryvery

I have had bad dreams about terrible toilets. Either blocked and over flowing or with no privacy arranged round the room like armchairs or with curtains round like hospital beds or with weird flushing mechanisms and strange shape that you have to climb up to. Don't know what that says about me!BlushConfused
I could have written this! Invariably I'll wake up desperate for a wee.
Tootsey11 · 11/09/2020 13:04

Big things or being close to something big. Like a windmill or alongside a ship/boat. Stupid I know, but I they freak me out.

Emeraldshamrock · 11/09/2020 13:04

None I can think of. DD has strong phobias balloons, bees, swings, blood if she fell over you'd think she was drove over. Grin

MrsMayo · 11/09/2020 13:08

@Whattodotho

Holey patterns like crumpets make me feel uneasy haha
This and clusters.

I don't even like those balloon clusters.

IAmFleshIAmBone · 11/09/2020 13:10

Fractals - some people make their own YouTube videos for songs using fractals and i can't watch, they're absolutely terrifying.

I'm terrified of what's under the sea. It's so bad that if I'm playing a game that has a part where you have to go underwater, I can't do it. If I'm. Watching someone else play a game and they go underwater, I will freak out, they have to warn me so I can close my eyes.

MrsMayo · 11/09/2020 13:13

@MagentaADomestic

Ahh the cluster of holes things is quite common actually, it's called Trypophobia. My parnter has the same fear.

I am petrified of Lifts, always have been since I was very little.

I was quite relieved it had a name as everytime I tell anyone that think I'm really weird.
looselegs · 11/09/2020 13:15

Hair. In sinks etc. Makes me gag!
Empty swimming pools.
The bows of huge boats freak me out - can't even look at them!

IAmFleshIAmBone · 11/09/2020 13:25

@FrankiesKnuckle wind turbines me too! They give me actual chills.

Flamingosarentreal · 11/09/2020 13:49

Worms and frogs. My toes curl if I have to walk near either especially if I think the frog is likely to jump.

HelpOrHindrance · 11/09/2020 14:20

@LioneIRichTea

Just re read my post and I do sound crazy but ok, let me have it 😂
The seed one is odd, but the others I think are reasonable! All phobias are learnt, so, you have learnt your fear of unknown places from going down in a lift to an 'unknown' floor and getting scared. So each time you see an unknown place, those fears come into your mind, and the circle goes round again. Do you see what I mean? It all happens in seconds - the mind is brilliant in that way!!

Try Neuro Programming Language to cancel the thoughts, you can get over them if you work at it!

Bloomburger · 11/09/2020 14:31

Water I can't see through (I still can't use bubble bath or bath bombs, what if something is under there), same goes for water outside, lakes and rivers and the sea. It terrifies me, they'll be cars, shopping trolleys and there's got to be a dead body or two.

Grated and drains too, on the street, sides of buildings, swimming pools.

Oh and horses. Ducking,scary animals, at least you know what a dog or tiger is thinking, horses stand there looking pensive but you can see the evil in their long faces!

Bloomburger · 11/09/2020 14:33

Oh and clowns, they're not funny. They're scary. Why would you dress up like that?????? What sort of human being are you?

Bloomburger · 11/09/2020 14:36

I have a few adult male friends who are scared shitless of beetroot!

CatsArePeopleToo · 11/09/2020 14:38

I have a few adult male friends who are scared shitless of beetroot!

I am not male but even a sight of beetroot makes me gag

MiddleClassProblem · 11/09/2020 14:40

These are all things that make me physically sick if I see them when eating or feel sick when not:

Care labels
Stickers
Dolls/mannequins/wax works etc
Wigs
Fancy dress

I would like to get treatment for this as it is becoming quite a big issues as DD likes half these thinks but knows not to have them around me.

If anyone knows a good treatment plan, please let me know!!!

FatArse123 · 11/09/2020 14:43

Polystyrene. I don't flip out when I see it (so maybe not a true phobia) but I can't bear to touch it, even looking at it makes my heart beat faster. I know the root, though. When I was little my brother used to pin me down and rub two peices together in my ear because it made a horrible noise (something I remind him of on occasion).

DalzielandPaxo · 11/09/2020 14:50

@LioneIRichTea we have the same phobias. Do not google submechanophobia. Do. Not. Do it. (Do it!)

gospelsinger · 11/09/2020 14:53

I have tripaphobia too Lozz22 II didn't realise it had a name until DD told me about it. Until then I'd just thought it was one of my own wierd quirks. Then I googled it. Aaaaaagghh!

IntermittentParps · 11/09/2020 14:55

The edges of things like tube platforms, cliffs etc. I cannot stand too close to them as I get very vivid images of someone coming up behind and pushing me over the edge. On holiday in Scotland once I got so agitated I actually cried because DP was standing 'too close' (by my standards) to the edge of a cliff and wouldn't step back when I asked him.

ImNotShpanishImEgyptshun · 11/09/2020 14:55

Baked beans. I've met a couple of people with the same phobia. The beans themselves are fine. The tomato juice is fine. But put them together in a tin, nope!
Buttons. I don't tell people about that one.

IntermittentParps · 11/09/2020 14:57

I have had bad dreams about terrible toilets. Either blocked and over flowing or with no privacy arranged round the room like armchairs or with curtains round like hospital beds or with weird flushing mechanisms and strange shape that you have to climb up to.!

I have similar – not the blocked and overflowing thing, but often in my loo dreams there's no privacy – the door won't shut, or they're just concealed with a curtain, as you describe. Or in one dream, up on a sort of podium Confused Grin

Ludo19 · 11/09/2020 14:58

Ok so I'm terrified of little people and I don't mean fictional ones.....like dwarfs and midgets I'm sorry if that's not p.c. but that's my phobia.
