My weird phobias, what are yours?

LioneIRichTea · 11/09/2020 07:57

I don’t mean spiders, or flying or heights... or even small spaces. I think that’s pretty normal tbh 🙂

I was telling DP about my ‘fears’ and he said I’m strange 😄, so are these strange phobias?

Clusters of seeds or other small things - like the inside of a bell pepper 🤢 I can’t look at it, it makes me feel sick and I just want to crush it 😕 My neighbours have clusters of moss on their garage in little balls and I really want to scrape it off!!

Machinery under water - more specifically, grates in a swimming pool. I don’t know why, they’re just dark and unknown and I think I’ll get my hair caught 🤷🏾‍♀️😆

This one is probably weird I guess and it will be hard to explain. Places that are too empty/abandoned or me accidentally ending up somewhere I shouldn’t be. In work once I took the lift and I pressed the wrong button and ended up in the basement (doors opened it was pitch black and oppressive smelt of damp) 😣 doors took ages to close too! Then recently, went to the coast for a few days, found this small deserted beach backed into rocky caves. At first I wanted to go down and have the beach to ourselves and then for some reason I was filled with absolute dread and I couldn’t 😑

Ok so I’ve possibly outed myself as a weirdo, what are yours? If anyone has similar too, I’d be happy knowing I’m not alone!

Anything sticky. Like sellotape or sticky vinyl or heat press tape. Glue on envelopes is ok, because I can slam them down quickly, but I hate stickers and Christmas Eve with all the sticky tape makes me heave. It’s the thought of getting stickers stuck in the tiny hairs on my arms that freaks me out.
I also have a thing about home made rice pudding/my mother in laws home made gravy. It’s always so lumpy and floppy and sits there and sticks to the pan and looks revolting. Both make me heave!

CorianderLord · 11/09/2020 09:44

Escalators and blood

CorianderLord · 11/09/2020 09:45

I don't have a phobia but also find the insides of peppers gross. Little alien fuckers

YesIDoLoveCrisps · 11/09/2020 09:47

Wet toilet paper. Not used (I think disliking that is pretty standard) but made wet while still on the roll by the shower spraying randomly or over-zealous toddler hand washing, makes me feel physically sick. It's weird and I dont know where it comes from but I HATE it

Me too. I feel sick thinking about it

pollysproggle · 11/09/2020 09:47

Clothes labels. They make me feel anxious, physically sick and need to be cut from everything (preferably by someone else).

I couldn't hold my brothers baby because there was a tag sticking out from the bib and don't get me started on when one is sticking out on someone's neck. 😷

Chazzaaa · 11/09/2020 09:48

Not a phobia as such but I can't stand watching people brush their teeth, either in real life or on TV. It's making me cringe just thinking about it!

022828MAN · 11/09/2020 09:49

I feel the same about swimming pool grates.... Gahhh they're so creepy!!!

SerenDippitty · 11/09/2020 09:53

This also extends to buoys and anything fastened in open water, like floating rafts. They scare me witless. Obviously something to do with deep water, I guess, but I'm a perfectly happy swimmer!

Feel similar about long river bridges.

hilariousnamehere · 11/09/2020 09:55

@ThreeImaginaryBoys I can't deal with anything anchored/fastened in water either, but I swim and freedive so no idea where that's come from! Properly freaks me out Blush

And @notimeforaname, I am the same with bellybuttons Envy (not envy). Previous partner called it my factory reset button because if he accidentally touched it he was liable to get kneed in the bollocks by reflex Blush

kateluvscats · 11/09/2020 09:56

@Notimeforaname

Also bellybuttons... I can't see anything touch them it makes me want to heave or pass out. Feel like heaving now 😭
This is a recognised phobia or extreme sensitivity , I have a job which involves touching a lot of patients belly buttons and some people near collapse with the horror of it all. I can relate as can my niece, it's a very sensitive area ! If someone touched mine I think I'd faint, can't even touch my own.
gingajewel · 11/09/2020 09:56

Cotton wool and candy floss, it’s the texture 🤢
Dry sponges, can’t go near them, even the thought of them makes me gag!
Chalk, people writing on chalkboards and the feeling of chalk

SomewhereInbetween1 · 11/09/2020 09:57

Anything where I can predict a few seconds before that it's going to be uncomfortably loud, like a train going past or an air show overhead, will make me physical shiver and shudder.

TisConfusion · 11/09/2020 09:58

Ships or boats in dry docks. I can’t even talk about it, it just freaks me out and makes me feel sick

Anxiousmess01 · 11/09/2020 09:59

@LioneIRichTea I have all of yours! I don’t know what it is or how they’re connected but feel your pain!

Mrsjayy · 11/09/2020 09:59

Mannequins in historical places softom dressed up guards to prisoners in Old jails give me the Heebie geebies I also don't like mushrooms growing on grass on on trees (shudder) I eat mushrooms fine.

OwlBeThere · 11/09/2020 10:00

Buttons. They freak me out and make me shudder with disgust.

PointersPlease · 11/09/2020 10:00

Im with everyone on the machinery and water, extends to water wheels, undersides of boats, propellers...

mrsfeatherbottom · 11/09/2020 10:02

People on stilts

FrenchtoEnglish · 11/09/2020 10:06

Terracotta pots.
Heads on my legs. If the dog or my kid puts their head on my lap... I could faint.
People standing in doorways if I'm sitting down. Fuck off or come in and sit down.

MagentaADomestic · 11/09/2020 10:07

Ahh the cluster of holes things is quite common actually, it's called Trypophobia. My parnter has the same fear.

I am petrified of Lifts, always have been since I was very little.

Meggymoo777 · 11/09/2020 10:07

Stickers... Can Not Stand Them! Charity fundraisers trying to put stickers on my coat have me pulling Matrix style moves, I hate the stickiness they leave when they've been removed, honestly gives me the chills and turns my stomach... TK Maxx stickers are the worst, they're not all one piece and never come off clean. My poor DS10 has to deal with all the stickers in the house. Seeing a back seat car window covered in stickers by children just makes me quake 😱

Beldon · 11/09/2020 10:08

-The little pools of water you walk through to go to some swimming pools. I know it’s meant to clean feet, but the thought of concentrated foot bits makes me heave.

  • Feet in general - apart from baby feet.
  • Cotton wool. Even thinking about it gives me shivers
  • Daddy long legs. Only because I’m frightened of them going into my ears at night.
  • Surprise parties, dinners, visitors etc. Terrified me, I got into a real state leading up to a big birthday.
  • Balloons after they have burst
bruisedbutnotbeaten · 11/09/2020 10:10

OwlBeThere. Another one for buttons. Dirty things, make me wretch!

FrenchtoEnglish · 11/09/2020 10:11

I LOVE sticky out veins.

SerenDippitty · 11/09/2020 10:13

I am petrified of Lifts, always have been since I was very little.

I’m not scared of lifts per se but I am scared of lift doors.
