My weird phobias, what are yours?

LioneIRichTea · 11/09/2020 07:57

I don’t mean spiders, or flying or heights... or even small spaces. I think that’s pretty normal tbh 🙂

I was telling DP about my ‘fears’ and he said I’m strange 😄, so are these strange phobias?

Clusters of seeds or other small things - like the inside of a bell pepper 🤢 I can’t look at it, it makes me feel sick and I just want to crush it 😕 My neighbours have clusters of moss on their garage in little balls and I really want to scrape it off!!

Machinery under water - more specifically, grates in a swimming pool. I don’t know why, they’re just dark and unknown and I think I’ll get my hair caught 🤷🏾‍♀️😆

This one is probably weird I guess and it will be hard to explain. Places that are too empty/abandoned or me accidentally ending up somewhere I shouldn’t be. In work once I took the lift and I pressed the wrong button and ended up in the basement (doors opened it was pitch black and oppressive smelt of damp) 😣 doors took ages to close too! Then recently, went to the coast for a few days, found this small deserted beach backed into rocky caves. At first I wanted to go down and have the beach to ourselves and then for some reason I was filled with absolute dread and I couldn’t 😑

Ok so I’ve possibly outed myself as a weirdo, what are yours? If anyone has similar too, I’d be happy knowing I’m not alone!

@veryvery I have had bad dreams about terrible toilets. Either blocked and over flowing or with no privacy arranged round the room like armchairs or with curtains round like hospital beds or with weird flushing mechanisms and strange shape that you have to climb up to. Don't know what that says about me!

This is eerily exactly me, I haven't had this dream for a while but it rears it's ugly head every now & then Shock

SpringerJS · 11/09/2020 11:06

Spiral staircases. I've no idea why. They just really freak me out!

PoodlesOnPatrol · 11/09/2020 11:07

My daughter is petrified of bubbles, like blowing bubbles or fairy liquid in a sink bubbles, when she was a toddler she would scream and cling with dear life if you tried to put her into a bath with just the smallest amount of bubbles in it.

My fear is birds the thought that they will fly down and attack me is crippling.

Eliards2012 · 11/09/2020 11:13

Mine is empty swimming pools, makes me feel sick just writing that!! And alongside that is anything to do with pool machinery filters etc.

I also have a terrible phobia of jelly, I can’t touch it, look at it and the thought of eating it is horrendous.

angieb89 · 11/09/2020 11:14

Bellybuttons 🤢 no one is allowed to touch my bellybutton in fear they'll stick their finger right in! Not sure who would want to do that but can't help how you feel right? Stems from recurring nightmares since childhood of someone pinning me down and pushing their finger real hard into my bellybutton where I can feel it in my back!! Just feel sick writing that!!

Seeing other people's bellybuttons is tolerable but I'd rather not!

Currently pregnant with twins and weirdly it doesn't bother me that they move around being my belly button 🤔

cheeseycharlie · 11/09/2020 11:15

Woodchip wallpaper. It makes me itch all over, it looks like a rash. And if it's around, then I just can't stop looking at it. But couldn't bring myself to touch it.

Weirdly pebbledash on the outside of the house doesn't do the same thing to me. I don't like it, but I have it and can live with it!

starfish88 · 11/09/2020 11:15

Bugs... All of them. Even the 'friendly' ones. If a ladybird landed on me I would freak out. They make my skin crawl. It's actually stopping me gardening incase I pull something up and there as a bug on it.

middleager · 11/09/2020 11:17

Mayonaise/salad cream

Devil's work👿

SorrelForbes · 11/09/2020 11:18

I have the toilet dreams too! There's something wrong with each toilet preventing me from using it safely.

Morris Dancers/dancing.

FirelighterGirl · 11/09/2020 11:21

@FrancesFlute

Orange squash. All types of squash but orange is the worst. It's a smell thing mainly.

I have to hold my breath if someone is drinking it near me and I could not stand the thought of touching it. I don't give it to DS and my DH has a lime one I ask him to only drink when I'm not in the room.

I feel super on edge watching people drink it as I'm so scared of smelling it or getting a drop on me.

Totally get this. It smells so strong.

When an adult whips out a water bottle only for it to whiff of squash makes me nauseous. Ruins moments in my choir clubs.

In fact, any fruit smell has same impact on me.

Haribos, calpol, fruit yoghurt (but strawberry the worst), energy drinks, any kind of gum smell but bubble gum or spearmint are awful. Any fruit sweets are gross.

I know why I hate these things and i know it's weird !

Deadringer · 11/09/2020 11:21

Floors or ceilings collapsing. I am not really comfortable on balconies or near any sort of drop, pier, cliff etc. I think it started with our attic tank, it was roughly over our bed and whenever anyone used water or flushed the toilet the sound of it refilling had my stomach churning, i was convinced it was going to drop through the ceiling and kill me.

JorisBonson · 11/09/2020 11:21

Velvet 🤢

And crabs 😵

jiskoot · 11/09/2020 11:22

Large expanses of fabrics, especially hot air balloons. Stems from a 'game' when I was young where classmates hold onto the edges of a massive bit of fabric and you run underneath to the other side. Only a gust of wind took hold of it, wrapped it around me and I couldn't get out for ages. Scarred me for lifeGrin

ilovecardigans · 11/09/2020 11:23

@pinkyboots1

My irrational terror is slugs.. not just repulsed by them but totally terrified, I've had to sit outside and wait for a neighbour to 'rescue' me when the cat brought one into the house! I have this crazy idea that they'll learn to fly ... after all the Daleks learnt! My friends, other half and kids all automatically check places for me but people who don't know me well just laugh
Me too, @pinkyboots1!

Just thinking about them is literally making the hair on my arms stand up. My dog inadvertently brought a teeny tiny one into the living room on her foot one evening a couple of years ago (when my husband was working nights) and I was paralyzed with fear. I was sobbing down the phone begging him to come home and rescue me. Somehow I got it onto a piece of kitchen towel and flung it outside, but I was so traumatized I didn't sleep a wink all night. Uuugh, the horror!

SerenDippitty · 11/09/2020 11:23

Outdoor swimming pools lit up at night where you can see where they get deep give me the creeps!

Iamnotminterested · 11/09/2020 11:40

Rubber bands.

Clowns Shock

Iamnotminterested · 11/09/2020 11:42

Also agree with the poster who mentioned labels; vile things, need to be removed immediately on purchasing something.
IKEA ones on towels/bedding are horrid, some are massive.

CatsArePeopleToo · 11/09/2020 11:43

Advertising billboards hanging overhead. During a school trip one fell on our teacher. She wasn't really injured but it was bloody scary

Mochudhu · 11/09/2020 11:45

Pylons, just the bg steel ones, not the small wooden ones. I took the dog for a ciculer walk yesterday somewhere new and there was a pylon line. I put my head down and scuttled underneath, knowing I'd have to re-Cross on the way back.

To my horror, a few hundred yards on there was ANOTHER pylon line. I chickened out and went back the way we came, scuttling under the first line again.

I felt like an arse later when I checked the walk out on Google earth and realised it was all the same line that cut across a section of the circular walk and if I'd crossed the "second" line I'd have been in the clear.Blush

Mochudhu · 11/09/2020 11:47

Big, circular Ffs

Riv12345 · 11/09/2020 11:49

The sea at night
That's stopping me going on a cruise

Yeah empty swimming pools

Belly buttons
Thunderstorms
I dnt know if this is a phobia but

Noisy eaters!!!

Supertree · 11/09/2020 11:50

Clogs.

The shape of them is wrong, it makes feet look like these sort of inhuman hoof type things. I hate that they are made from a really solid material and made to look curved yet that actually have no movement or give in them whatsoever and are completely rigid. So disgusting, it makes me feel sick. I particularly hate the wooden ones because of the completely rigid nature of the wood and the little pointy bit on the front. It looks so unnatural and inhuman, it’s hard for me to explain, but it makes me feel sick and panicky, like it’s something from a science fiction film where humans have been combined with other materials. The smoothness and shininess of the wood also adds to it. I remember a few years back when those wooden soles clog style heels were popular and they had a leather upper with those upholstery type nails all around the edge of the horrible wooden sole. Why?! So disgusting to put a flexible human foot inside that.

ClinkyMonkey · 11/09/2020 12:07

I mentioned this on a a similar thread a few months back, but mine is monkey puzzle trees. I am bloody terrified of them. I let it slip to my kids, who then had great fun pointing out loads to me that I hadn't noticed before because I've been concentrating on the road ahead. They are just the ugliest, most sinister looking specimens of plant life I have ever seen. And they are everywhere! Once you start looking ....

In a similar vein, I'm scared of treetops. When I'm in a hilly forest park type place and suddenly come across the tops of trees close to my eye level, it freaks me out. I honestly have nightmares.

Treaclepie19 · 11/09/2020 12:13

I have exactly the same think about clusters @LioneIRichTea. It makes me feel sick thinking about them. Even the word. Uuuugh.

Planesmistakenforstars · 11/09/2020 12:19

A particular kind of cake. I can't even walk down the aisle at the supermarket in case I see the picture on the packaging. I have no problems (unfortunately) with other cakes.
I have a good friend who is terrified of peas.
