My weird phobias, what are yours?

LioneIRichTea · 11/09/2020 07:57

I don’t mean spiders, or flying or heights... or even small spaces. I think that’s pretty normal tbh 🙂

I was telling DP about my ‘fears’ and he said I’m strange 😄, so are these strange phobias?

Clusters of seeds or other small things - like the inside of a bell pepper 🤢 I can’t look at it, it makes me feel sick and I just want to crush it 😕 My neighbours have clusters of moss on their garage in little balls and I really want to scrape it off!!

Machinery under water - more specifically, grates in a swimming pool. I don’t know why, they’re just dark and unknown and I think I’ll get my hair caught 🤷🏾‍♀️😆

This one is probably weird I guess and it will be hard to explain. Places that are too empty/abandoned or me accidentally ending up somewhere I shouldn’t be. In work once I took the lift and I pressed the wrong button and ended up in the basement (doors opened it was pitch black and oppressive smelt of damp) 😣 doors took ages to close too! Then recently, went to the coast for a few days, found this small deserted beach backed into rocky caves. At first I wanted to go down and have the beach to ourselves and then for some reason I was filled with absolute dread and I couldn’t 😑

Ok so I’ve possibly outed myself as a weirdo, what are yours? If anyone has similar too, I’d be happy knowing I’m not alone!

Anything slimy or gelatinous, I can't look at slugs without retching and bodily fluids like spit or snot make me gag, I can't even bear to hear someone spitting.

GreenPlum · 11/09/2020 10:18

@JalapenoDave

SPITTING IMAGES PUPPETS. The horror 😭

They're making a new series! Comes out end October I think.

Xmasfairy86 · 11/09/2020 10:18

Baked bean juice

Bellybuttons

The ends of my toes being touched

Megan2018 · 11/09/2020 10:19

@veryvery I have those toilet dreams too! Horrible

veryvery · 11/09/2020 10:21

@Megan2018 and @clolo yep, weird!Grin

unmarkedbythat · 11/09/2020 10:23

Things that are too smooth. It's really hard to describe though. And not every smooth thing is wrong. But some are just horrible. I once had a dream that a perfectly smooth giant ball bearing was crushing me and it was just dreadful.

MrsMariaReynolds · 11/09/2020 10:23

Open water. I simply cannot get past the toe-dipping depth of the sea or a lake. How the hell do people swim in there? There's slimy fish around for God's sake!!!

terrelontane · 11/09/2020 10:25

Wind, but only when I'm not in the same country as the rest of my family.

Incoming phone calls.

Shops with narrow aisles.

mrsBtheparker · 11/09/2020 10:29

Cheap pencils! I'm very tight about spending money on anything for myself but I always buy Staedtler pencils, I could probably get 20 cheaper ones for less than the price of 4 but always buy them. They sharpen so well and being a crossword and general puzzle fanatic I go through a lot.

Toilet brushes

beautifulmonument · 11/09/2020 10:31

Elastic bands and latex balloons 😱

threecatsandcounting · 11/09/2020 10:31

I'm the same with holes as other people, and the fear of things in pools.
I remember in my old local swimming baths the pool used to have windows in the deep end on the walls of the pool (like portholes) and if you went underwater and looked through them you could see what must have been a basement storage type room but it was huge and terrifying and I remember always being frightened of seeing something in there (no idea what) or something breaking through the window into the pool. No idea why they were there it seems very strange now when I think back to it.

terrelontane · 11/09/2020 10:32

Oh, and a pipe organ stop called nasard.

mrsBtheparker · 11/09/2020 10:35

Tea bags, I can just about put a dry one into a cup or pot but I loathe used, wet ones, someone else has to empty the cup or pot!
CIgarettes, a long, long time ago, someone at a very formal dinner said Hold that for a minute please and pushed a lighted cigarette into my hand, before I could say No. I let it drop and it did a lot of damage to a very expensive carpet. When OH still smoked I couldn't even handle a packet of cigarettes.

peachescariad · 11/09/2020 10:36

Seeing the hulls and big propellers of boats underwater when snorkeling or even in a film and swimming in very deep water.

recklessruby · 11/09/2020 10:38

More repulsed than scared but wool of any type. I hate it next to my skin, yet am compelled to see if it squeaks against my teeth. Shudder. Dd is the same. We call it the err err feeling and refer to clothes like that as err err jumpers.
Luckily I wear fleeces instead. I m just disgusted and revolted and really on edge even walking past the new winter range jumpers in my Sainsbury's. It makes me feel really funny and sick.

recklessruby · 11/09/2020 10:41

Starbut compelled to touch themConfused

Iwasonceabrownie · 11/09/2020 10:42

@veryvery.
Me too with toilet dreams. I can never find one with a door on, I wake up in a sweat about that. Also I hate feet, I loathe them on anyone except mine and grandchildren's.

Gin4thewin · 11/09/2020 10:44

Fish 🤦🏼‍♀️ have pet fish, no problem feeding them or watching them. Ask me to put my hand in the tank? Ill cry like a baby. No idea why, although i may have a faint memory of having my hand shoved in a big pond of koi so maybe thats it🤷‍♀️

whatsthatnow74 · 11/09/2020 10:45

@ LionelRichTea The thing with the seeds, OP, is linked to trypophobia, the fear of patterns of holes and anything similar. Google it (with caution!). I discovered this a few years ago and totally relate to it.

goose1964 · 11/09/2020 10:48

The big bass drums in marching bands.

oakleaffy · 11/09/2020 10:50

Deep, clear, still water as in large water tanks scare me.
There was a huge tank like this in an old building and the water was just so menacing.
Those ''Freediving'' pools that are 33 metres deep also give me the willies...

My phobias that are more 'phobic' is vomit ..emetophobia.. and roundworms...Had a cat that vomited some up under the table {parents didn't routinely worm him} and they gave me the shudders.

JTTWC · 11/09/2020 10:54

Also wet toilet paper! I thought it was just me!! Even seeing it in the toilet makes me feel sick. You know like if didn't go down on the first flush. Also completely random...the dry, hard leftover bits in the pan from making scrambled eggs. It once ended up in the scrambled eggs I was eating. I now can't eat them. Even cleaning it off and seeing it in water turns my stomach.

iguanadonna · 11/09/2020 10:55

I'm also frightened of human-made objects underwater. I love snorkeling, but hate seeing an anchor chain. Idea of wreck diving gives me the absolute horrors.

Seeing this thread, this seems a surprisingly common phobia.

beautifulmonument · 11/09/2020 10:58

@veryvery

I have had bad dreams about terrible toilets. Either blocked and over flowing or with no privacy arranged round the room like armchairs or with curtains round like hospital beds or with weird flushing mechanisms and strange shape that you have to climb up to. Don't know what that says about me!BlushConfused
I have dreams just like this too! Glad it's not just me!
