My weird phobias, what are yours?

I don’t mean spiders, or flying or heights... or even small spaces. I think that’s pretty normal tbh 🙂

I was telling DP about my ‘fears’ and he said I’m strange 😄, so are these strange phobias?

Clusters of seeds or other small things - like the inside of a bell pepper 🤢 I can’t look at it, it makes me feel sick and I just want to crush it 😕 My neighbours have clusters of moss on their garage in little balls and I really want to scrape it off!!

Machinery under water - more specifically, grates in a swimming pool. I don’t know why, they’re just dark and unknown and I think I’ll get my hair caught 🤷🏾‍♀️😆

This one is probably weird I guess and it will be hard to explain. Places that are too empty/abandoned or me accidentally ending up somewhere I shouldn’t be. In work once I took the lift and I pressed the wrong button and ended up in the basement (doors opened it was pitch black and oppressive smelt of damp) 😣 doors took ages to close too! Then recently, went to the coast for a few days, found this small deserted beach backed into rocky caves. At first I wanted to go down and have the beach to ourselves and then for some reason I was filled with absolute dread and I couldn’t 😑

Ok so I’ve possibly outed myself as a weirdo, what are yours? If anyone has similar too, I’d be happy knowing I’m not alone!

@ClarasZoo

The little bit of white stuff that dangles off egg yolk- I have to remove it!
Same here @ClarasZoo. I always remove it. Even though I know it is made of the egg whites, it just has to go.

Clowns - I can see them on TV/films (very much enjoyed the film "Joker"), but I cannot be anywhere near a clown in person. I was once taken by surprise by one when on holiday in Portugal and I ran. They are not funny at all. They are just incredibly creepy!

Wooden ice lolly sticks and wooden cutlery. Ugh! I cannot use these. The feel of them in my hands makes me feel sick.. the thought of putting them in my mouth is my idea of hell. I think it's the thought of them drying out my mouth. Thinking about dragging a dry wooden stick through my mouth and having my tongue and cheeks sticking to it is just disturbing.

Paper straws are becoming unbearable for similar reasons to what I have described above. However, they have the added horror of becoming soggy and useless causing you to have to suck desperately just for a sip of drink. Then they start to break up in your mouth leaving you with tiny bits of paper in your mouth. Yuk!
I bought a little set of reusable straws online and take these with me when I'm going out.

One of the most memorable experiences I have is of going for a midnight swim from a boat miles off the coast of NZ, the bioluminescent algae were giving off crazy swirls of colour. I also swam down as far as I could hold my breath for but then did get a bit confused when I wasn't sure which way was up and which way was down.

jasminetea22 · 12/09/2020 00:22

The sound of someone eating an apple. 😫

naechunce · 12/09/2020 00:24

Other people's cutlery or cups 🤢

peakygal · 12/09/2020 09:41

@ludo19 thank god someone else said it! This is my biggest fear and I do be too ashamed to tell people but I am absolutely petrified of dwarves too and it makes me feel so guilty 😩

TruffleMama · 12/09/2020 11:41

@jasminetea22

The sound of someone eating an apple. 😫
THIS!

Absolutely cannot stand it. Misophonia!

I once got off a bus because someone was crunching on an apple and I couldn't deal with it.

It's like it sets of my flight/fight response. I have to get away or I instantly become extremely irritable and agitated. I'll admit I've argued with family about being subjected to the sound of them eating an apple. It took a long time and a lot of explaining, but they now understand and they no longer eat apples around me.

CandleWick4 · 12/09/2020 12:38

I have horrendous misophonia. It’s getting worse the older I get.

I have a real fear of the sea but only when it’s really stormy and the water is tossing about. You know like those videos where the camera shows the water hitting the ship and the water is huge around it. Nightmare.

CandleWick4 · 12/09/2020 12:40

Like this. Terrifies me!

My weird phobias, what are yours?
crosser62 · 12/09/2020 12:45

Sloths.

Just the look, thought of them.
Ewwww

MackemLass79 · 12/09/2020 13:05

Mannequins in shops even more so since I've seen prank videos of them moving haha. Weird I know

PrincessButtockUp · 12/09/2020 13:11

The clusters of holes thing. Footbridges over water, even if it's only two feet long over a creek in the park. Spiders, of course! Anything being unexpectedly sticky really turns my stomach. So does having the ends of my big toes touched, which makes me boak.

Fanciedachange1 · 12/09/2020 16:26

Frogs!

More specifically the fear that one will jump into my mouth! As a teen my cats would often catch things and I had no fear of mice and rats, and was quite happy to pick up the dead ones and dispose of them, but whenever a frog was caught I would crumble.

In the summer hols my dad would get a call to pop back from work in his lunch break because I was trapped in a “safe” room until the frog was gone!

Crinklesmile · 12/09/2020 17:10

Cold baked beans 🤮 the sight, the smell everything about them makes me want to hide

hullabaloo68 · 12/09/2020 18:28

I have a irrational fear of Topiary I can feel the hair on the back of my neck going up even if I just talk about it

MirandaMarple · 12/09/2020 18:32

@Whattodotho

Holey patterns like crumpets make me feel uneasy haha
Trypophobia. I mildly have it. I'm itching now.
YeahImWeird · 12/09/2020 18:33

Hospital gowns......

Roomba · 12/09/2020 18:38

Swings! Not just Park things, but anything pendulum like that swings around. I was outside a cafe recently where they had hanging lights that were blowing around on the breeze - I had to leave as I was about to have a panic attack.

Yeah I'm weird. I was determined that my kids shouldn't miss out due to my odd phobia so I'd push them on the swings. But I'd stand there with my teeth gritted, legs shaking and trying not to throw up as I pushed them!

Prettybubblesintheair · 12/09/2020 18:44

Bananas, absolutely terrified of them. Have never eaten one or given one to my kids. If someone eats one in the house they have to dispose of the skin (actually heaved writing that) outside. Terrified. It sounds daft but it’s actually been quite a limiting phobia, the amount of toddler groups I’ve had to leave due to another parent feeding their kid a banana!

Shoe laces and particularly the idea of my nails catching on them gives me goosebumps and makes me feel sick and shivery. Also felt, cotton wool. Someone mentioned their dog having a twisted nail on here and I was a little bit sick in my mouth! So nails too.

Yukkatree12 · 12/09/2020 19:05

Floor boards, I always think I’m going to go crashing through them onto the floor below. Irrational I know, I’ve had it since I was four years old Blush

Kimblebee19 · 12/09/2020 19:09

Croutons. Blush Idk why, but those crunchy little bastards make me uneasy.

pinkpetal2 · 12/09/2020 19:23

Black toilet seats they frighten me so much I'd rather wet myself that use one. When we used to go to my nans caravan I'd make my granddad drive to the Sainsbury's to go to the toilet.

Layedbackmumma · 12/09/2020 19:36

Crisps, the feel, smell, taste everything about them makes me want to vomit.

JuniperSling · 12/09/2020 19:36

Mayonnaise.

ToastyCrumpet · 12/09/2020 19:38

Melted ice cream and waterfalls.

pastapestoparmesan · 12/09/2020 20:10

Fruit bowls, especially with a selection of fruit, worst of all if it includes bananas. I love fruit, including bananas, and chopped up fruit mixed together is fine too!

Being touched under my chin. Total cringe.
