My weird phobias, what are yours?

I don’t mean spiders, or flying or heights... or even small spaces. I think that’s pretty normal tbh 🙂

I was telling DP about my ‘fears’ and he said I’m strange 😄, so are these strange phobias?

Clusters of seeds or other small things - like the inside of a bell pepper 🤢 I can’t look at it, it makes me feel sick and I just want to crush it 😕 My neighbours have clusters of moss on their garage in little balls and I really want to scrape it off!!

Machinery under water - more specifically, grates in a swimming pool. I don’t know why, they’re just dark and unknown and I think I’ll get my hair caught 🤷🏾‍♀️😆

This one is probably weird I guess and it will be hard to explain. Places that are too empty/abandoned or me accidentally ending up somewhere I shouldn’t be. In work once I took the lift and I pressed the wrong button and ended up in the basement (doors opened it was pitch black and oppressive smelt of damp) 😣 doors took ages to close too! Then recently, went to the coast for a few days, found this small deserted beach backed into rocky caves. At first I wanted to go down and have the beach to ourselves and then for some reason I was filled with absolute dread and I couldn’t 😑

Ok so I’ve possibly outed myself as a weirdo, what are yours? If anyone has similar too, I’d be happy knowing I’m not alone!

Teeth.
I have dreams of teeth becoming wobbly, falling out, or crumbling to bits in my mouth which I then have to spit out. Or dreams where they fall out but regenerate time and time again. Or they fall out and I have to try to piece them back together in the right hole.
Hair falling out. I have this dream too, large bald spots all over my head or hair falling out in handfuls.
In real life, noisy eaters. Want to punch them in the face.

@veryvery me too! I have the weird toilet dreams. Over flowing, trainspotting style. Gross

veryvery · 13/09/2020 08:47

@Cat0115 yes, mine are often like that. Must be a common concern!

I feel ill when viewing those star maps on a phone or tablet, the ones where the constellation image just appears on the screen when you move the phone. It really freaks me out, and I have to hold it at arms length so it's not near my eyes when the constellation image materialises Grin. It's probably to do with the vastness of space, although I don't have any problems looking at the night sky generally, just the apps.

I also have a real phobia of holograms boak ( thinking about it, it may be not knowing whats going to jump out of the blackness, like the star app).

My DH had to drag me out of Ripleys Believe It Or Not! before I passed out years ago in Great Yarmouth because I felt so faint from the weird creepy as fuck waxworks.

Also thanks to previous posters, I've discovered I have submechanophobia, so cheers for that Grin

I hate crumpets , the look of them makes me feel ill.
If I see an image of bacteria in a dish all multiplying ! I hate that.
Wet hair in my 'hair catcher' in the shower.

bottlenose1 · 13/09/2020 10:44

Mosquitos. I'm not scared of being bitten, but it's that horrible fear when I'm in a room at night and see one. Worse is hearing one in my ear. I can't sleep then until I find it.

The80sweregreat · 13/09/2020 11:16

The apps on my phone sometimes move about and it makes me feel sick just seeing it let alone trying to make it stop. I'm not sure why it does it ( I think I must press something by mistake) it's easily rectified and really isn't a big deal!
It is weird the things that really make me feel uneasy though!

badamsgirl · 13/09/2020 11:22

Escalators, but only when they've stopped working and you have to walk down them. I go into total panic mode every time and cling to the rail as though my life depends on it. God help anyone walking directly behind me, because i will take a while to reach the bottom!

AngryAngel · 13/09/2020 11:50

Shell houses. Pictures made with shells. Fossils with holes in. Mushrooms. Cocoons. Small insects that stick to things.

FlamingoorPigeon · 13/09/2020 11:58

Upside down tortoises. In particular people holding upside down tortoises. I just imagine thumbs going through them.

The80sweregreat · 13/09/2020 14:12

I hate going on escalators too : working or not working. The ones at Oxford street station are so steep and I think I'm going to fall down them and dread getting on to them. Luckily I don't go on them that much.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 13/09/2020 14:21

Not a full-on phobia for me, but I totally get why people can have a phobia of holes. Looking that things like peach pits, tripe, sponges, even ring mounts without gems in them makes me feel slightly queasy.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 13/09/2020 14:23

Also balloons. All my life I've fucking hated the things. Kids parties were and continue to be my idea of hell.

Bethiboo40 · 13/09/2020 15:17

Not so much a phobia but makes me want to hurl - standing on what I presume to be dry but is actually soaking piss (not actual piss) wet through bath mat in bare feet in teeny tiny bathroom. Urkkkkk

DontGoIntoTheLongGrass · 13/09/2020 15:24

Submechanophobia, definitely freaks me out.

MerlinsBeard87 · 13/09/2020 15:28

Henry hoovers. Hate their creepy smiling face
