Does my wedding sound shit? Be honest

Hi all,

I just wanted to gather opinions on my wedding later this month. I didn't want a big do so went small and now it's getting closer, I'm scared people will think "well this is crap Hmm".

Basically, 19 guests in total. This is includes bride/groom and our child. Mainly family but also each of our best friends and their partners.

We are having the whole day/eve in a hotel.

We have a drinks reception following the ceremony, a three course meal, wedding cake, and pizza for later in the eve with drinks (all of this is in a private function room)

During the meal we have bottles of wine and beer paid for by us and a glass of fizz each for the toast. We have a small not exciting chocolate based favour for each guest. A gift for the b/g parents, best man and bridesmaid.

We don't have music entertainment as it seemed a bit over the top given the party size so we have arranged a playlist to be played over the speaker.

I'm worried guests will be bored?! Is there anything I can add? Am I missing anything?

Sounds much better than boring speeches and a 30k bill!

1984isHappeningNow · 01/08/2019 12:27

No it sounds perfect and stress free!

BiggerBoat1 · 01/08/2019 12:27

Sounds lovely.

PullingMySocksUp · 01/08/2019 12:27

Sounds lovely. My only thought would be do your friends know each other or your family at all?

smokeytoby · 01/08/2019 12:28

I would honestly love to attend a wedding like this, very personal!

If it were me, I would perhaps have a couple of games to play? Something silly but also fun after a few drinks, but that's just because it's the sort of thing my group of friends would love. I just imagine everyone in hysterics as the groom and his best man become tangled up playing twister. Not really appropriate for a big wedding, but as it's smaller I imagine it would work.

I honestly think as there is a 3 course meal and drinks and music, conversation will flow and it will be a wonderful day/night. I really hope you enjoy yourself and relax, it'll be fab! x

Sounds like mine and mine was lovely.

Chickychoccyegg · 01/08/2019 12:28

sounds great!!!

inspiredfood · 01/08/2019 12:28

The friends haven't met, but they each know the sides of the family. So my friend knows my family, and stbH friend knows his family

Sounds the exact opposite of shit. What do you feel is missing that your guests will expect?

IdblowJonSnow · 01/08/2019 12:29

Sounds nice and low key to me.
Are you having photos?
I would have crafting stuff for any kids and a quiz for adults.
I went to a fairly sedate family party last wkend which might have been a bit dull but the quiz really perked things up.
Have you asked your guests for their song suggestions? I quite like it when that happens.
Enjoy your special day. Wink

I think that sounds like a lovely wedding!

If you are worried about people getting bored how about having some retro style games set up in a corner or a photo booth area with props and a Polaroid camera or something like that? Camera aside most of those things can be bought cheaply only or in stores like Home Bargains.

Herocomplex · 01/08/2019 12:30

sounds good to me! Very relaxed, plenty to eat and drink and a nice friendly group. Enjoy yourselves!

Maniak · 01/08/2019 12:30

Sounds nice. I wanted a small wedding but got pressured into a big extravaganza which I paid for and hated. So I'm a bit jealous tbh. These are people who love you. They'll make it great don't worry.

DubiousGoals · 01/08/2019 12:30

It sounds amazing inspired. Although I may be biased as my wedding was very similar!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 01/08/2019 12:30

Sounds lovely, but why bother with the pizza part? Not a huge number of guests to mingle with for that long, no DJ (which btw I agree as to not having) and a three course meal. I would do the meal and cake and go home.

MostlyAmbridgeandcoffee · 01/08/2019 12:30

It sounds lovely x

inspiredfood · 01/08/2019 12:30

Thank you everyone. As it's drawing nearer I'm just staring to panic everyone will be think it's rubbish ha!

I couldn't think of anything worse than a huge do. We just wanted our nearest and dearest but I'm worrying people will be all judgey that it's not a big flash event

Honestly, not a quiz Hmm. Just let people chat, they don’t need to be forced to have fun, that really is shit.

NameChange84 · 01/08/2019 12:31

Heads Up on Ipad or phone is a great, cheap game for having a laugh btw!

inspiredfood · 01/08/2019 12:31

I LOVE the idea of a quiz and guests picking the songs! Thanks SO much

Sounds absolutely lovely to me. Think you'll have a fab time. We had pizza in the evening and it went down a storm, it's been 15 years and I'm still bitter that I didn't get round to eating any of it. Enjoy your day.

moonpiggle · 01/08/2019 12:32

Thats a fab idea! It sounds lovely and stress free. Enjoy x

HeadintheiClouds · 01/08/2019 12:32

Now someone’s suggesting they all get their phones out! Bet you’re glad you asked, op!

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 01/08/2019 12:32

Can you get all the friends together for drinks/dinner before the wedding so that they'll know each other on the day?

pudcat · 01/08/2019 12:32

Sounds wonderful to me.
