Does my wedding sound shit? Be honest

Hi all,

I just wanted to gather opinions on my wedding later this month. I didn't want a big do so went small and now it's getting closer, I'm scared people will think "well this is crap Hmm".

Basically, 19 guests in total. This is includes bride/groom and our child. Mainly family but also each of our best friends and their partners.

We are having the whole day/eve in a hotel.

We have a drinks reception following the ceremony, a three course meal, wedding cake, and pizza for later in the eve with drinks (all of this is in a private function room)

During the meal we have bottles of wine and beer paid for by us and a glass of fizz each for the toast. We have a small not exciting chocolate based favour for each guest. A gift for the b/g parents, best man and bridesmaid.

We don't have music entertainment as it seemed a bit over the top given the party size so we have arranged a playlist to be played over the speaker.

I'm worried guests will be bored?! Is there anything I can add? Am I missing anything?

I would adore this and feel very privileged to be on the guest list !

MrsEricBana · 01/08/2019 12:42

It sounds SO nice! Hope you have a really happy and memorable day 🍾🥂🎂🍕

nothingtowearever · 01/08/2019 12:42

Sounds amazing- id personally love a quiz 😂😂

BarbariansMum · 01/08/2019 12:44

The only thing I'd ask is how long will the whole thing be, start to finish? I find v long weddings, with big periods of standing around, a drag (regardless of size/budget). If you are planning a 12 hour job then yes, add in a few more things to do.

Heatherjayne1972 · 01/08/2019 12:45

Sounds great. Are you all sitting one the one table. I think conversation will naturally flow if you are
Games are a good idea. Maybe games for two people at a time. Giant Jenga or connect four etc rather than twister
But you know your guests best

Sounds fantastic tho

inspiredfood · 01/08/2019 12:45

There is no set plan on time to be honest. Once the cake cutting (after meal) is over and done I'm happy for everyone to do as they please. If you want to stay and have drinks, great, if you want to go home, also great!

I'm very chilled!

Sounds perfect
I went to a lowcost wedding on a friend’s land in a huge marquee
I actually did the flowers for the church and marquee
Total cost for about 60guest was under £5k. We had hog roast for lunch
Went to a £50k wedding in a posh marquee . Food was crap
There was a stampede at 10 pm for burgers
If yo feed and water the guests well, there’s nothing to worry about

gonewiththepotter · 01/08/2019 12:51

Honestly I think this sounds lovely and also that no matter what kind of wedding you have every bride has this pre wedding panic!

I had a ‘big wedding’ with £25k price tag (braces for the flaming arrows of MN telling me I’ll be divorced in a week!)
But honestly even I had this panic a few weeks before because I’d ‘only’ invited 60/70 people and was worried everyone would think it was shit because we’d gone with our own ‘traditional’ style and not gotten a photo booth or candy cart!

In reality it was a perfect day and everyone raves about it for weeks after. We could have invited 100+ BUT it would have been unessiary. 40-50 of our guests were family members. We invited everyone up to first cousins (including all partners and children). Others were long standing family friends/god parents/close friends and honestly it felt like everyone who should have been there was there!

I personally don’t think it matters AT ALL how many guests you have or how much money you spend. It’s 100% about the atmosphere and food/facilities.

One of the things that kept coming up when people complimented what a lovely time they’d had at our wedding was ‘it was just such a lovely relaxed atmosphere’ and I think that was key. Yes we had a ‘big fancy’ wedding but actually there was no ‘OMG it has to be perfect’ stuff went wrong and was dealt with without stress. We hired a gorgeous venue and got good food/drink/entertainment but didn’t try to make the whole day like reality TV or ‘all about us’.

There’s a hilarious picture of my three beautiful flowers girls tearing across a field with grass stains all over their dresses and tights, hairs wild! Carrying a pile of cake!!! Think that summed up our day pretty well 😬

sounds lovely op.and by your talking sounds like what you want so that is even better.so feel good about it.your tensions will only come out on them mood of the day if you not sure so let all the fear or nerves about it be GONE!right now gone.
it really does sound lovely.i can imagine being there and having the day then chillin and chatting and just mooching into the night having a day together and pizza.lovely.
make sure you have the cheesy songs too to get evveryone dancing.

AryaStarkWolf · 01/08/2019 12:53

Sounds fab, have a great day and congrats

CheesecakeAddict · 01/08/2019 12:54

Honestly it sounds just like my wedding except I had 60 guests and a casino and a DJ. Only 3 guests danced everyone else went to the bar and chatted to the people they see day in, day out. I wish I'd have saved myself 2k and just had a playlist. It sounds like a lovely wedding. Enjoy it.

Loveislandaddict · 01/08/2019 12:54

Sounds lovely, and really personal.

The wedding business has become too big business nowadays. You don’t need all the favours etc. Actually, that wasn’t even a thing when I got married many years ago.

Alsohuman · 01/08/2019 12:55

What a brilliant wedding. I’d absolutely love it.

Ariela · 01/08/2019 12:56

As some of your guests don't know each other, one thing you could do to help them mingle is ask each of the guests to bring a photo for your photo board of them and bride and/or groom from the times when you first met. So the school friends will be trying to work out who else from your primary school it is in the photos, your Great Aunt Sybil will be reminiscing with your mum and dad about when you were christened Etc, and everyone else will be squinting at old photos trying to work out which of the 3 girls aged 2 is you!

Other than that I can't think of anything, sounds a perfect wedding.

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 01/08/2019 12:57

Sounds fab, OP. Have a great day Daffodil
I also love quizzes and might be partial to a bit of karaoke

mindutopia · 01/08/2019 12:57

I think that sounds lovely. I think the only challenge might be that it's small and once everyone makes a round of chatting with everyone else, it might start to get a bit boring. But as long as your friends and family are outgoing and happy to chat and be comfortable with each other, I think that's fine. If you are having a cash bar for the evening, you could consider opening up the evening for extra friends and family that you couldn't invite to the meal, so a fresh influx of new people to join the mix. Then just order a few more pizzas.

Ohyesiam · 01/08/2019 12:57

Sounds great. All you need is some people you love, some food and a drink and it will be lovely.

Congratulations

SerenDippitty · 01/08/2019 12:57

Sounds lovely to me.

PeoniesarePink · 01/08/2019 12:58

I think it sounds fab.

What about a photo board/book where you try and include photos of all the guests and yourselves through the years? Make it a bit more personal..... leave spaces where they could write a memory sort of thing?

WillowintheUK · 01/08/2019 12:58

Sounds perfect.

HappilyHarridan · 01/08/2019 12:58

Going against the grain here, I would be a bit bored after the three course meal if the expectation is that we then sit in the same room for x hours until the pizza bit with no dancing or games etc. but that’s probably just me because I don’t enjoy situations where I have to make polite chit chat and am not a big drinker. So I would probably make my excuses and leave after the meal.

Fae1989 · 01/08/2019 12:59

Sounds lovely - straightforward and simple. Your friends and family should be there to celebrate your special day with you, not judge you on how big of a party you put on.

Have a lovely day :)

HalloumiGus · 01/08/2019 13:00

Sounds like one I went to - my fav wedding :-)

floatinglily · 01/08/2019 13:02

Sounds lovely! Ours is similar just without the evening bit. We have 30 guests, my side haven't met his side. We're doing the ceremony, photos and then a buffet meal and wedding cake.

Loving the ideas of the games, I might use this for the kids we've invited.

LarkDescending · 01/08/2019 13:02

Overall I think it sounds lovely. The only thing I would say is that the idea of the whole of an August day and evening in one room makes me feel a bit claustrophobic. I wonder whether perhaps if the hotel has a garden you could move outside for a bit in the afternoon? They may even have some garden games (croquet? boules?) they could set up for you? Obviously this may not work if it’s a city venue!
