To think the supposed Ukip Immigration policy makes complete sense

I deciding who to vote and it is definitely not going to be ukip or conservative. But while scrolling all the parties polices on immigration i found Ukips the most sense.

Ukip want an Austrailian points system. My mother came to Britain in 1956 aged just 24 she was a nurse and had a skill. I'm not considering voting ukip but on immigration they have got it right. I think that mass immigration has suppressed wages for the poor and It is wrong to have such a large number. Anyway aibu

YANBU I think we do need to have some thing in place

Boswollox · 17/03/2015 18:37

Nope I agree (grandchild of Jamaican immigrants, grandmother was a nurse also).

cupcakesandapples · 17/03/2015 18:38

I agree too but i just cannot justify ukip on any other level- i think farage is a pompus twit

BIWI · 17/03/2015 18:39

But we already do have a points-based system, for people coming in from non-EU countries.

See here

The fact that doesn't operate within the EU means that we, as UK citizens, are also free to move to other countries in the EU - like the thousands that go and live/retire in SW France or Spain.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 17/03/2015 18:41

But it is incredibly hard to emmigrate to Britain. Unless you are European. A points system for Europeans would negate the whole "Europe" thing.

QueenOfSouthLondon · 17/03/2015 18:57

It seems so obvious if only other parties offered the policy

Am another immigrant who doesn't mind a points system. But have to point this out (radio 5 discussion the other night):

Net immigration to UK is around 200k/annum in recent yrs.

Austraila has resident popn = 22 million. And net immigration of about 200k/annum (of which 125k are on the points system, there are other ways to immigrate to Oz, too).
So with an Aussie style system UK would have a net immigration level around 600k/annum.
Might want to rethink whether it's a good idea for UK.

irretating · 17/03/2015 19:03

YAVU to say that mass immigration has suppressed wages. This isn't true at all.

QueenOfSouthLondon · 17/03/2015 19:04

Ragged but to be fair the uk is a small country Austrailia is huge.

OP posts:
QueenOfSouthLondon · 17/03/2015 19:05

Iretating of course mass immigration pushes wages down for the poor.

JanineStHubbins · 17/03/2015 19:05

Do you agree also that the children of immigrants should have to go to private schools, OP?

QueenOfSouthLondon · 17/03/2015 19:08

Janine no if they pay into the system than they should be allowed to use nhs, schools and any other government service. Their would be no immigrants that would need not pay in as it would be an Australian style system.

OP posts:
irretating · 17/03/2015 19:08

Queen, no it doesn't and there's a very simple reason why.

BIWI · 17/03/2015 19:09

Can you explain how that happens QueenofSouthLondon?

QueenOfSouthLondon · 17/03/2015 19:09

And about wages the fewer people in the labour market the higher wages are its economic fact

OP posts:
JanineStHubbins · 17/03/2015 19:09

Then you disagree with the UKIP immigration policy Smile

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 17/03/2015 19:09

What I don't understand is what will happen to British citizens living in the EU if UKIP get in and we leave the EU?

Can someone explain?

We're talking over a million people.

BIWI · 17/03/2015 19:09

Hmm. I'm thinking that you're actually not that bright now.

Unless you can give me proof, of course?

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 17/03/2015 19:10

There won't be an NHS under UKIP so I wouldn't worry about that.

JanineStHubbins · 17/03/2015 19:10

Their would be no immigrants that would need not pay in as it would be an Australian style system.

I don't understand this - can you clarify/rephrase?

QueenOfSouthLondon · 17/03/2015 19:13

And for example after the Black Death their was a huge wage rise for people in Europe as their was less people in the labour market. The same applies after the first and Second World War

Economics
less people = wage rise
More people = wage decrease

However factors like the general economy can disguise the wage market

QueenOfSouthLondon · 17/03/2015 19:15

Sorry typo with autocorrect. Meant to say that in a points system their would be no immigrants out of work because everyone coming in would have a job because they would fill a skilled vacany.

Yup, that's the one that interests me.

UKIP, the knee jerk choice for the hard of thinking.

QueenOfSouthLondon · 17/03/2015 19:15

And I never said I was voting ukip I just said their immigration policy makes sense.
