To not understand the prejudice against asda on here?

Seen a couple of comments about asda on here, seems they are quite looked down on by some. I don't really get it. The food is no better and no worse than the other big names in this area (tesco and morrisons) the prices are low, and the staff are generally lovely and very helpful, at least the ones in my local are. So whats the problem with asda (ignoring the current Christmas add which whilst cringeworthy is not the worst I have seen)

My friend hates Asda, apparently it's where - whispers- working class people shop.

Our nearest isn't that near and although it's cheapest for fuel it never goes as far as a tankful from Shell. Other than that, I dunno.

I suspect there are posters who claim to have just been to Waitrose as they're tucking their Iceland bag for life back in the drawer.

I don't have any problems with Asda as a concept - but I don't shop there as the local one is inaccessible on public transport, has a freakishly tightly packed car park and is really pretty filthy.

When DH was a vegetarian who didn't eat vegetables and survived ten years on a diet of pasta, mushrooms and cheese, Asda was vetoed on account of the poor quality of their mushrooms. For years now it's been known as "Shite Mushrooms Asda" :o.

I'm not prejudiced against Asda, I just don't like it. It stocks loads of stuff I don't want (way more crisps/fizzy drinks etc than my local Sainsburys), and the stuff I do want is overpriced. Eg. quorn mince is around £2.80 everywhere, except Asda where it is always over £3. I go in fairly often to look at the kids' clothes which are good, but the groceries are always a massive disappointment.

My god are there actually people out there who consider who else shops there when choosing a supermarket? Really, do people think they can catch "working class" now? Ffs they must have more money than good sense!

Spare pants - entirely valid reason for not shopping there, but the comments I was referring to were more based on the clientele than the stock

I shop anywhere that has a bargain but I have been let down by them too many times in terms of quality & home delivery. I try to avoid a big shop there as I get trapped into all the offers that aren't as good as they seem.

I don't shop at Ada anymore becaise they're owned by Wlmart whom I despise for their business practices over in the US and now here.

They are indeed good value for money but they're corporate monsters.

(I used to use them a lot before they were taken over by W*lmart) so it's not snobbishness.

I only have a really massive Asda nearby so I find it a little difficult. (I go there infrequently so I get lost and usually neglect to go the aisles I really need.) I quite like them though. For the things that I need (and I'm pretty disciplined in not getting fizzy and crisps etc) they have good quality at generally good prices although it's worth looking very hard indeed at their allegedly cheap items.

PS - I haven't seen the ad though.

Na!!! Our asda is excellent, food lovely quality and staff always helpful and lots of checkouts OPEN...

I loved Asda until they broke my heart and stole my money.

The customers at my local Asda really are vile, people swear at you if you stop to look at a shelf, don't really want DS witnessing too much of that. Its not even that they're WC because the worst rudest ones seem quite MC, the building seems to bring out the worst in people (or maybe they're like that all the time??)

Asda is fab for kids parties/entertaining largish numbers, but I couldn't face it weekly!

Also it being part of Walmart scares me a bit!

I like that there's not a huge price difference between their regular range and their organic stuff, can't afford much of Sainsburys organics - they're luxury prices

normally do Aldi and Lidl though, people are chilled, never too full, cheap.. unfortunately no organic there

They're not actually that cheap - though they claim to be - at least for the things I buy. And the meat eaters in the house hate their cooked meats.

I was an Asda virgin until 2 weeks ago. I was considering it as my new regular supermarket until I saw the ad last night. Shame on you Asda!!!

the nearest asda to me is in clapham home of middle class south londoners. i do not mind asda cheaper if buying brands the veg is cheap but not as good as morrisons

have bought some really cute clothing for ds there a friend of mine who does not buy supermarket or primark clothes has often been surprised where his nice clothes are from

there is lots of i want everyone to know how mc i am on here ignore them op i have plenty of mc friends that shop there that do not like to admit it

I don't go to asda because the local one is horrid - really messy and cramped. I don't go to tesco because the local one is enormous, messy and busy. I don't go to sainsburys because i always end up spending way too much.

I do however shop at all 3 of them from the comfort of my living room. Which one I use depends on which one has what I need and the special offers that week.

I only go to wait rose when I am feeling particularly flush
