To not understand the prejudice against asda on here?

Seen a couple of comments about asda on here, seems they are quite looked down on by some. I don't really get it. The food is no better and no worse than the other big names in this area (tesco and morrisons) the prices are low, and the staff are generally lovely and very helpful, at least the ones in my local are. So whats the problem with asda (ignoring the current Christmas add which whilst cringeworthy is not the worst I have seen)

Well maybe you don't live in a proper bad area then, Banana Bubbles, but I do and I can say what I like about my own life. And I say that in our ASDA, people behave badly and in ways I don't want to be around. Trufax! Sorry it's not correct! It's just true!

Sorry people don't want to know that our local school is shit and the parents are often undressed and openly doing drugs in the AFTERNOON. Sorry they don't want to know about the shootings and the rapes and the street violence and the desperation. I quite like the fact that all the supermarkets round here have their own intriguing differences and atmospheres.

Personally, I find Tesco a generally stressful experience. Just anecdotal, but people seem crosser in Tesco - it's not laid out very logically, there are about eight little lanes of non-food when all you want is one bottle of shower gel, so it seems to take longer. I always seem to hear more children crying and being shouted at in Tesco.

Which is why I quite like Waitrose, as it does generally feel a bit calmer - and it's smaller and quicker and the checkout staff are friendlier where I am. But it's a bit full of performance parenting and kilted children too!

I don't really like our Asda - it's massive and frenetic and things which are own brands in Sains and Waitrose, they often only seem to have the actual brands. I buy own brands of pretty much everything, so can often end up spending more if there aren't any.

Sainsbury's is the calmest and nicest and most intuitively laid-out, where we are.

I've stood unable to get to shampoo in Waitrose for minutes while a bunch of gilet-wearing brayers banged on about horses. And I've heard some pretty ripe stuff in Asda too, and been blocked by, um, less horsey types. This is true, and much as it would be nicer to say they're all the same and you can't tell an Asda from a Waitrose, you actually can.

The asda near me is a dirty dark horrible overcrowded depressing place with endless aisles of junk food, barely any fruit and veg and filled with rude aggressive people. Including the staff, if you can even find them.

The asda near my mum has a great fruit and veg selection, a proper butchers counter, a fish counter and a friendly atmosphere. So IME it very much depends on the branch.

I get my fruit and veg from the Turkish supermarket now. Miles cheaper.

I shop in ASDA, however I will only go there in the evening when it is quiet, but then that is the same for any supermarket.

I get the rage if I have to step into TESCO, it makes me irrationally angry.

The fuss that was being made about the stupid advert I thought they'd skinned puppies on camera! It wasn't great, true, but i can totally relate to alot of it (although you wouldnt catch me sitting on a fucking pouffe thingy to eat my christmas dinner!)

Anyway, I love Asda! Their fruit and veg lasts well, there's loads of good offers and more more choice than in Sainsburys. Don't give a shit if that makes me down market and common. Would rather be both of those things than a stuck up knobhead who judges others based on where they shop.

I flit between shopping online at Ocado and Asda. If I am having a gathering or summat, it's Asda because you can get pizzas the size of your body and that.

I wouldn't actually be caught dead IN one of their stores, though.

I did a few shops in Asda for work and the bill was always over £100. I did the same shop in Tesco and the bill was closer to £60. This was because Asda did many more 3-for-2 offers whilst Tesco did more half price offers. I came out with less shopping, but nothing was thrown away.

I don't find Asda that cheap at all. I find Morrisons cheaper than Asda, and better quality fruit and veg too.

Perhaps it's just my local stores, because I've been in a Tesco that was vile through and through, and a Tesco that was clean, bright, tidy and had nice staff. I think it's just where you go.

I LIKE Asda. So there.

I regularly frequent 3 Asdas and they all clearly have thriving D&I recruitment policies.

I have never complained about the freshness of their fruit and veg (sure it could be better) whereas I have about Tesco.

Our local Asda has well thought out P&T parking facilities (sensibly the disabled spaces are closest to the store and the P&T spaces can be some way away but with a safe pedestrianised walkway from the P&T spaces to the storefront). There is also an extensive world foods section. I just wish the choice of wine was a bit more imaginative but then none of the supermarkets can take much credit on that score.

M&S annoy me with their claustrophobic parent off-putting aisles and I've never really forgiven M&S for the way they abused their buying power and treated the UK textile industry in the 90's.

I bloody love ASDA the saff in the milton Keynes branch are always lovely and helpful, clothes are really good, their Christmas gift section is excellent. The one in mK has a Disney store franchise which is great

Or ASDA is depressing and scary in equal measure. Maybe you're lucky with yours but ours has people fighting, swearing at their kids, trudging round in stained, stinking clothes...it's really depressing. I feel poor when I go there. I feel my poverty, if you see what I mean? Even though it's not really cheap, it's nasty.

And it's massive and yet doesn't seem to sell anything I want to buy.

Also it's Walmart and that's probably evil, but if I'm honest, it's more the preponderance of drug addicts openly abusing their children that puts me off.

usual I completely agree with you. Unfortunately it does seem more acceptable to take the piss out of Asda/equivalent shoppers, on MN.
BUT its all down to sense of humour/being able to take a joke and the snob column are generally lacking in this department and are much less likely to take the piss out of themselves
I dont like the atmosphere of Waitrose/M&S. I just want to get the boombox out and blast some beats/have a party to liven it up.

@seamonkey, Lidl Tottenham has organic veg, a few.

Lidl's tools and weird special offers are worth looking at. Their cheap tools are good, eg a set of spanners for a fiver is OK and doesnt fall apart like other 'bargains'. I am often amused by their specials, didn't see a need for horse blankets in Tottenham. This week, lots of ski clothes.

I use Asda/Tesco and Morrisons for bits. Sometimes Sainsburys but not that often.

I don't care if that makes me common or inferior, thats what I can afford so thats where I go.
And claiming there is no real food in Asda is just ridiculous.

IME, the ASDA in Govan has better selection than Port Glasgow Tesco and is cheaper.

We have a pit stop in Lidl when needed for huge bags of potatoes and rice.

We're so common, we cook everything we eat and bake all bread, biscuits, oatcakes, treats, etc. My nearly 7-year-old can make jelly on her own (except pouring).

And ASDA Value frozen sausage rolls are fab for a can't-be-arsed meal with baked beans and spuds.

Smart Price washing powder is fab, too, often 2 for a fiver. Lasts for months when mixed with washing soda to cut down the amount.

I love being common because being ripped off is stupid.

We live in the middle of nowhere, food is a fortune, but we have a chest freezer and when we go visit A's grave once a month in Glasgow, I do a big shop in ASDA.

Cuts our food bill right down as we have nothing but a super-expensive small Morrison's and super-expensive, dinky Co-Op here.

I fill the freezer and stock up on stables for about £150 and leave £50 to top up for the month on milk and bits and bobs like that.
