To not understand the prejudice against asda on here?

Seen a couple of comments about asda on here, seems they are quite looked down on by some. I don't really get it. The food is no better and no worse than the other big names in this area (tesco and morrisons) the prices are low, and the staff are generally lovely and very helpful, at least the ones in my local are. So whats the problem with asda (ignoring the current Christmas add which whilst cringeworthy is not the worst I have seen)

I think most people shop most often in their closest supermarket. I think you would have to be a special kind of snob to avoid Asda if you had to drive another, say, 5 miles to get to Tesco or Sainsburys or whatever. I have shopped in Asda occasionally but I have Sainsburys, the Co-Op Lidl, and Morrisons closer.

But I am boycotting them now on account of that atrocious Christmas ad.

Mintyy - aren't most supermarkets located in towns, and don't most towns have more than one supermarket?

yeah we'ld all love to shop at indi shops full of lovely local products

but much as I'd like to support them (and prefer the food), their buisness rates have gone up so much around here that the ones that are left have had to hike their prices up so much that they are now a luxury that we can only treat ourselves to at christmas

I don't like what supermarkets do to the world/people either, but if I always did indi/local, rather than just when I can/special occassions, I'd be choosing food over rent and bills as I can't afford both!

I earn in total pre year what one of the worthy indi shoppers quoted as spending on food per year!

As if anyone WOULDN'T perfer yummy local food Hmm

My local supermarket is Waitrose so that's where I shop...quite small, easy to get round and I know where everything is.
We have a massive Asda about 3 miles away and a megastore Tesco about a mile and a half away, but I never go there.

I don't shop poncey - we have a normal Market where I get the fruit and veg, get meat occasionally from the butchers (2 are vegetarian so not much meat), get goodies from Aldi/Poundland, cleaning products from Poundland, and a weekly shop from Waitrose - the essentials range is cheaper than Tesco, and they now AUTOMATICALLY price match on everything.

I think for most people the difference between their closest and second-closest supermarket is not very far at all, so they will make an active choice.

My mum used to drive past Sainsbury's to go to Asda, for example.

My closest asda is quite a distance, I have never bought food in their because it is the kind of place where you wipe your feet on the way out, the shop really is dirty and that is not nice for a food shop.

I do my big shop at asda online. Its great. I get meat from our butcher and bread from the baker, but everything else from Asda. Its cheap, the quality is fine, delivery is cheap and they have never let me down yet.
